Regarding my fursona/fursuit design on the previous page, I'm already having second thoughts. I'm wondering if the back is too plain, could any artists here offer their opinion?

I mean, your character is whatever you want to make it. My character isn't that unique besides the coloring and the fact he resembles my body.

I mean, you can enhance it with clothes or props or something that your character always has, something that is part of them. Mine always wears the same hoodie.

Interview with the director of the Fursonas documentary. A bit NSFW. It sounds really, really bad. https://www.flayrah.com/6560/interview-fursonas-documentary-director-dominic-rodriguez-video-wolf

I'm actually kind of excited to see it? I've heard nothing but good things, been told it's like Fahrenheit 911 for the fandom, and that it like, doesn't just sanitize it. It's really interesting.

I find it kind of funny one of the people in there refuse to be shown without their suit for fear of people figuring out their identity, yet they have an unlocked twitter account that shows their real face and fursona, and have swarm check them in at work each morning. XD

"Furries Uncensored"? OK. Admittedly I am new to the fandom and I won't deny I was into porn long before I became a furry. That beings said, I am not a fan of the stereotypes and I feel he chose the most extreme fans he could find. A lot of the things in this documentary would not look out of place in a mainstream media piece. I've been in a lot of fandoms and I guess I'm one of the those people that cares a little too much about image. I don't want to sweep the crazier aspects of fandom under the rug, but I do want to show people that we are bigger than the stereotypes and that they don't define us.

I guess I would question the need to sanitize the image of furries? You can't deny that like any fandom there is a sexual section of it, probably even more so considering the identity aspect of the fandom. But it just feels like hiding? I mean why would he want to sensationalize the fandom when he is part of it?

Just reminds me of a local frolic-clone we had up here, where a number of people were up in arms that it was advertising "furry" as the wrong thing to people, that we should keep a more pg oriented image of the fandom. But really, all it consisted of was people who were having fun being who they were, which is sort of what the fandom prides itself on. It kind of ruins that notion of all inclusiveness when we want to sweep certain sections under the rug, all to put on a clean picture for the media that isn't going to like us regardless.

But I guess I would say I'm eager for this movie not because I'm sure it's going to be amazing, but rather I'm all for looks at the fandom that aren't either sensationalized or sanitized. The notion that the fandom is so obsessed with its image at times that it won't take look at itself beyond that of a superficial glance is completely true. And it doesn't really help I guess? I mean, any time someone that associates themselves with the fandom does something that people think tarnishes its already lacking media representation, they're ostracized without question. It doesn't even matter if it was there intent.

I'm not suggesting that we sanitize the fandom. But I do feel we need to be selective about who we choose to represent it in something like this. It looks like the director just chose the most controversial members he could find instead of choosing a cross section of it. Pick a single fursuiter (probably not Boomer) a single artist, hell, throw in a someone who's just in it for the sex if you must. But show that the fandom is a diverse group from the mundane to the lewd.

As for his motives, I can't say but from what I can tell he has bit of ax to grind with Uncle Kage.

Haha. I mean, Kage isn't exactly the father of the fandom in that he can do no wrong. He has said some pretty crazy things, and has come off as a blowhard. When I started out in the fandom I viewed him as a celebrity, but the more I grew to know about him and the company he keeps, well, I lost interest in him. But some people still love him, and that's great. To each their own.

And well, I guess you might want to watch the movie first before saying they're the most controversial. I mean, I can point out a few interviewees in the trailer alone who really aren't.

In a fandom that is as diverse as it is strange, based on identity, you aren't going to find a suitable cross-section that encompasses everyone. And he sort of realizes that if I'm understanding him right? He's making a movie about the fandom that is close to him, and it supposedly comes off more real than the "base definition of furry" documentary that has been repeated 1000 times.

Yeahhhhh I'm always wary of documentaries really cause I feel very few actually are just presenting things the way they are and are instead editing together a narrative to push.

Should have interviewed me. No fursuits, tons of smut, no identity crisis, loves furry art because furry art is cool and expressive and sometimes, an animal is a better extrovert carrier for an emotional topic than a human.

I feel a lot of the fandom is like that, we are in for fun and art. A lot also don't go to cons because, I dunno, when anime cons here became semi cosplay cons I felt things became too entrenched. But then again, I'm not an easygoing person and rather very earnest so what do I know about people who can enjoy life and fandoms better than me?

Is having a musclebound eagle a common shirt design in the US? I just saw someone wearing a shirt with a buff eagle doing lifts, though I forgot the brand.

It's not exactly common but no one on the street would find it out of place. Especially if you live in the South where folks love their weird jingoistic shirt designs.

We are also working to restore the deleted data. Our most recent full backup is from May 11, so approximately 6 days worth of new user registrations, account watches, and new submissions have been lost due to the attack. We are still trying to evaluate the scope of the attack.

You'd think theyd back up their stuff more often

I just want a site that is like FA but... works? Furry Network has the whole trying to be Facebook crap (well that and the "drama" with the owner running a beastiality site). Tumblr is lacking furs, Deviantart feels like it has mostly 13 year-olds. Twitter isn't that great for posting art with the compression issues and it being a stream of consciousness. And Weasyl is still in Alpha (or Beta, but it feels like Alpha with how slow it's going).

I do feel rather happy people are finally having the last straw with FA's incompetence though. Site has lasted too long just because it is the only alternative.

Password reset is because data was captured, I think.
Anyway, it seems some people got some malvertising on FA now, so be careful, until their ad provider deals with it. (Malvertising is a thing sites don't have much control over as opposed to ad vendors. On FA's case, that might even mean faster fixing! :V)

This specific hack itself isn't due to their insane incompetence... too much, at least. Getting hit by a zero-day exploit after two days is something I can give some leeway about, especially compared to all the other far more incompetent things in their history.
It's too bad no other site has a design nearly as minimalistic. So many of them go for a more is better approach, or make the interface huge and in the face. Of all the things wrong with FA, minimalism is not one of them.

It isn't even just the hack. This sort of incompetence is constant (and I'm still angry they took so long to tell us passwords were taken), and along with the abuse of power by the staff, it comes off as arrogance. They act like they are too big to fail.

I mean, no one really uses FA because it is a well designed site, it is because it was really the first major furry art site, and built up so many members and has been unopposed for so long.

That wouldn't happen to be the website the owner just shut down would it? Apparently he wasn't even aware what was happening on the site (if you can believe that)
