Gabe Follower: HLX (presumably Half-Life 3) will not end on a cliffhanger and will be a proper finale to the series

I can not imagine the immense pressure of working on a game as anticipated as that. It's almost destined to fail to meet ridiculous expectations set in the minds of nerds after all these years of edging.

Valve does not need money, so the only thing they would be risking here is tarnishing their halo series with an underwhealming finale. I'm not sure I would swing at that pitch.
There were 13 years between the release of Episode 2 and Alyx, and the later came out as a pretty cool and well received game.

agreed but it was a spinoff game... not a mainline entry / conclusion of the story

Don't get me wrong there with my OP, I genuinely think they can pull off a great finale for Gordon's story, but I just can't see Valve actually having the balls to do it at this point

That Half-Life: Alyx ending was a copout.

You save your dad. BUT you get to temporarily play as the Gman so I'll let it slide.
Gman?Freeman!

I think that ending was a pretty good way to give themselves more directions to go to develop the story.

I mostly wanna see if they drop a Valve Engine 3 as maybe some competition to UE. As much as people bitch about UE it may be welcome at this point. I'd also just ove to see an excuse for them to give us sequels to TF, and Left 4 Dead too.
Same. I see no reason why Valve should put out HL3.
Half Life was to showcase their engine. Alyx was to showcase Valve VR.
Unless its a new engine or something absolutely crazy, what would be in it for Valve ?

or something absolutely crazy
I believe. Some "leaks" were teasing a ton of cool stuff, like environment destructibility and improved npc behaviors.

Plus there's the Deckard coming, might serve as a showcase for it's features.

Lost the momentum. Etter leave the way it is now

If launches and even achieve greatness, chances are that won't be on par with what the second has done to the industry
Hasn't lost a beat. HL Alyx literally reinvigorated the whole story as it put a spin and a very obvious continuation possibility. HL3 will be as big as a GTA release. The only people wanting this game to set some industry standards are the pixel peepers. Rest of us just want more HL.

Its a made up myth how Valve release games only if they think they can change the industry lol. Speculators and leakers made that shit up. For Valve it's just another game.

Well, good physics and npc ai are to be expected from a HL game.
It will also probably have some new killer feature that is integrated well into the gameplay loop.

That game will launch simultaneously with the Steam Deck 2 and will be perfectly optimized for it. Amazing things are awaiting us.
More likely to launch with deckard even though hl3 isn't a vr game to showcase deckards flat game abilities

Deckard is very close to release now and they aren't going to release a new deck at the same time

Valve don't necessarily require a new Half-Life game to change the industry, but they do require it to break new ground and solve new problems. They have been clear they aren't interested in continuing the story simply for its own sake.
