GAF @ E3: Impressions from the E3 showfloor by GAFfers!

A question that has already been answered, and I don't believe he asked anything about how it looked. Just look at literally ANY Nintendo topic today and you're blabbering away in all of them. Kind of hard to ignore. I know it's a little easier to get away with trolling at E3 since it bring all the trolls out, but just give up. We get it, Nintendo's conference sucked, and you don't like the WiiU. I'm just tired of seeing you say the same crap in every thread.

The following questions were asked:

- does it look like an iPad (No, it's very low res in comparison. This isn't news or shocking.)
- is it resistive or capacitive (it's resistive)
- Is it multi or single touch (it's single touch).

As for you not liking my opinion, couldn't give a shit. Someone not sharing your opinion isn't trolling, though. You wont survive long on forums like this if you run around insulting people. Be an adult.

I also have to give out an honorary award to Nintendo for having absolutely stunningly beautiful women demoing the Wii U games. Holy shit. I didn't see many booth babes, but I'm thinking it's because Nintendo had them all.

They weren't even dressed trashy, but 90% of them were just amazing.

Yeah, I remember when they tethered 3DSes to hot women a couple years ago. Very nice.

Anyone got P-100 impressions? I mean, the Gamespot wowed and hyped me, but need some player opinions. Also how's the controller?

From Domino Theory via HaloGAF regarding Halo 4 hands-on:

Domino Theory said:
The moment you get the hitscan BR in your hands and get into an epic strafe battle and successfully 5 shot your opponent, you'll feel it inside that all your complaining...was for nothing.

The core Halo gameplay is back and shines better than ever here with [very] passive perks and Armor Abilities simply complementing your play style, not replacing your basic functionality (which is what Reach did).

Only four weapons have bloom: the AR, the DMR, the Storm Rifle, and the Pistol, but bloom in this game is NOTHING more than an indicator of your respective weapon's rate of fire.

Games were fast, fluid, and fun. I couldn't stop using the BR, but you know what, the AR is growing on me as a perfect secondary weapon (which makes Firepower useful).

Infinity Slayer is where the ordinance drops happen after a few kills, but what you need to know is that this ordinance mechanic is ONLY in this gametype and the game doesn't necessarily hand you the drop, it drops it in a certain spot where it's fair game for anyone.

I would type more but I want to soak this all in, I'll give more impressions later.

Oh, before I go, the audio.... THE. FUCKING. AUDIO! JESUS! I could not get over the audio in this game every time I played.

Halo 4 is more of a gun-centric game than the previous Halos, very similar to Halo 2. I only got into two melee battles/two melee kills in 3 hours of game time. No amount of Armor Abilities, perk combinations, and ordinance drops are going to counteract the core gameplay and you and the primary weapon you get attached. Nothing, period.

edit; And before you shout "you fought scrubs", only the first game I played was a dong fest (I got first place on my team with 30 kills, followed by Voltron with 23 or so), the rest of the games I played were against people who knew what they were doing.

Hopefully he'll come over and share more with you fine ladies and gents. This is such great news!

To those who played PSABR, was there any depth to the gameplay that you felt?

I'm watching the videos and yea they look kind of fun but I fail to see the depth. It looks very limited in depth as in combos and moves look very simple.

I can't say for certain that, "Oh man, the depth!" but I think the KO's by Supers Only kind of had that feel, in that you are trying to keep the other person from building up their meter (by attacking them and taking away their "juice," or by placing defensively in some way).

I agree with an above poster that it's a party game, so it's more about just going in there and having fun, but I think for those that want to take the time and invest in the characters, and really learn them, sure, I think there could be strategy.

I was surprised at how many attacks there were. From what I remember:

Square, Triangle, and Circle are your attacks.

L1 is block. R1 is to pick up items.

L2 is to taunt. R2 is to execute your super (On Vita, you can either press L&R at the same time to super, or swipe your finger across the right side of the back touch pad; i found that either works well).

Right stick is grab, but I admit, I never really used it (block either. I got so swept up in the chaos that I forgot it was there. Lol).

You can press a direction with the Left Analog stick or D Pad with any of the 3 attack buttons, and you pull off a move. That's a LOT of moves to toy around with. 3 attacks per Button + Direction combo.

I was pulling off stuff with Kratos that I didn't realize he could do. Lol. Same with Sly. It's a game I'd really love to sit down with and have more time to look at the move sets and choose a character that fits my style.

It's not Virtua Fighter depth, but I think there's more to it than it appears.

EDIT: Steeloz, I didn't see AC Vita on the show Floor. There was an upper area, but we weren't allowed up there without a silver wrist band. It sucked, because Guacamelee was up there! :(

Has anyone had the chance to play Code of Princess?
Dunno if it was playable or not, but I don't recall many impressions from the Japanese game, so definitely interested.

i did. i kept messing around by switching between planes of view by accident. i was playing little challenges (i don't know what the main game is like), and the first few characters i played as were pretty good, but the last one was a slow magic user and it took forever to beat the level.

it's kinda like a brawler with rpg elements and a touch of fighting game mechanics for your moves (so -> -> b is different than just pressing b).

1. Motion+ in the Wii U Gamepad is great. There is zero lag. Playing the Zelda minigame in NintendoLand, as you pan the device through the air as the archer, it's incredibly responsive and fast. I pwned many pig-faced foes.

2. I got JohnTV via 3DS streetpass. Life complete.

Oh, and the Pro Nintendo controller is apparently on the show floor...someone get some hands on time with that!

My main floor impression is how empty everything is this year. You could pitch a circus tent on most publisher booths and have room to spare.

It's also the first E3 in recent memory to not feature a line winding around the Nintendo booth. And really no significant lines anywhere else, other than Halo 4 and Black Ops II and a few developer demo booths.

It's one hell of a laid back show - which is not necessarily a good thing.

Fig, is that game flat 2D or can you move in and out of the screen?

PBR? It's flat 2D. No plane shifting like LBP.

EDIT: @ Chubigans - surprisingly comfortable, actually. I didn't think it felt too heavy. I think I made an edit in my post on the previous page that goes into more detail. It was a lot smaller, and way more comfortable than photos had led me to believe. I was impressed with that. The screen was a nice size, but the resolution and responsiveness wasn't the best (but I'm a biased Vita guy, so take from that what you will).

Overall, I was pretty impressed with the Wii U. I'm not in the market to buy another console right now, but I enjoyed Pikman, Rayman Legends looked godly, and I thought Zombie U looked cool. Give me a new Zelda, Smash Bros, and Metroid, and I may have to rethink that and pick one up. Considering that I couldn't stand the Wii, this is quite a turnaround for me.

Oh, I also forgot to mention that I played Ni No Kuni as well, and I loved it. It has a fantastic visual style (as expected from Studio Ghibli), and the combat was interesting and fun. It had an old school JRPG charm to it, and I loved the world map and the look of all of the environments and characters.

I'm gutted that it's not releasing here this year.

I heard that the entire thing was CG. Is that true or was it a joke or something?
What they showed during the conference was CG "target gameplay", I think. There's a real demo on the show floor, though. People seem to like it a lot so far.

How are the controls mapped for PSOne games on the Vita? I know certain games like Parasite Eve did not have an option for analog stick control on the PSP. It'd be nice if the Vita had a different version Of the emulator that makes use of both sticks as well as the rear touch for L2 and R2.

Metal Gear Rising was amazing, really smooth animation. Only had two minutes with it. They were not shy on the gore.

The way you slice is by holding L2 down, choosing your angle with the right analog stick, then releasing the stick will cut in that direction. You can also while holding L2 press square for horizontal and triangle for vertical cuts. it randomizes the angles a bit when doing so.

Square is hand-held cutting attacks and triangle is foot-held cutting attacks. Both are equal in attack strength. Seems that foot-based attacks had a much wider range and also included stabbing moves.

You can run with R2– pressing square while running slices things up like the crissagrim in SoTN, whereas pressing triangle causes a sliding attack to occur.

Stealth kills are prompted upon being in a certain proximity or scenario, such as being on a roof overlooking an enemy below.

You can launch enemies in the air with a combo that slows down time allowing you to blend things up mid-air. That part was amazing.

You can seriously cut up ANYTHING to Pieces. Limited to geometry of the environment. Every prop could be cut, including huge boulders and large vehicles.

Combos played a lot like Bayonetta. Definitely a Platinum game. Gonna play some more tomorrow.

I was hoping someone could ask either Nintendo rep or even a third-party Wii U rep if they had any idea what the wireless signal range of the Wii U gamepad will be. Obviously, you won't be able to tell yourself since the Wii U gamepads at E3 are wired.

How was the framerate?
It always seemed to look bad to me during trailers, but it seems like everyone else was ok with it.

I'll post more detailed impressions later, but I was worried about dmc and forza and they both played fine. And by fine, I mean pretty damned good.

Also played ZOE but Konami didn't want to take my money on the floor. :-(

Played a crap load of tekken tag ; visually so so, but day one nonetheless.

Lines I skipped on day one I hope to play/see today : Splinter cell, moh, most wanted, dead space (well practically EA's booth), Borderlands with their forever long line; and gears of War.

Black Ops 2 is NDA'd

Strange how I could walk right up and play the wii U. 3DS had a forever [long] line in 2010. Light controller - surprisingly so in fact - and I played Arkham city (surprise, surprise) to the end of the demo. Definitely adds another element to the game play, graphics seem to be on par with the console brethren, but I have to get used to the WIDE controller. ;/

Sounds so good.....
is the running bullet parry automatic? Are any of the combos cancelable?

Anybody seeing/interview Splinter Cell folks?

Really curious why they didn't just create a new agent now that Ironside ain't Fisher. This cheap feeling retcon bullshit is kinda disappointing.

Impressions that people will probably want to know: Zombi U

It was intense, scary, and the scanning thing felt new and exciting. BUT the visuals are really sub par, we're talking about Condemned 1 level of visuals here.

Sry about the Borderlands 2 line! We have stations outside and inside but its still been crazy :P

seemed all right? i am not a good judge of such things.

are there a lot of 3DS and Vita games on the show floor?

If so, what have you checked out?

despite the limited presence at the conference, the vita is well-represented. it takes up a decent amount of room in sony's space and they even have them acting as controllers for some ps all-star stations. outside of the sony booth. there's a lot of different games on display. i saw the vita over at the sega booth, but didn't particularly seek it out. the 3ds's only presence at nintendo's booth comes in the form of systems tethered to boothpeople, which makes it really weird if you want to just kinda grab a glimpse of such-and-such game. outside of the nintendo booth, there's some at the konami booth for castlevania, and a few at the square enix booth.

that's all i was able to see. i haven't been by disney's space yet.

Thanks. I appreciate the impressions. Looking forward to hearing more once you've checked it out.

I want to play your game!! Why won't you let me!

But seriously Lol, I passed by five times that day, even during the last 30 minutes or so and still forever long!

Bodes well for the title though :-)

new super mario bros. u was next. that was fun. the level design is more nsmbw and less nsmb1/nsmbds so yeah. it looks good too, for what it is. one of the guys we were playing with boasted that we needed to step up our game since he got all the 3 big coins.

my friend: who's that guy?
me: mario.
my friend: it will be done.

and then my friend with the gamepad proceeded to place blocks around him to kill him. it was pretty great

I still haven't stopped laughing.

How is giving someone info about the screen trolling? Drop your shield, there's no need for defense here. So shut the hell up about "trolling". If you can't handle someone's opinions like an adult, stop reading their posts.

That's some fine Low Resolution then....

Hawken is hot to death. It's tucked away in the Alienware booth, where random PC demos usually pop up. Hard to believe that it's DX9 UE 3.0 while watching it run. They did a really good job with the motion blur and pixel shader effects.

Gameplay-wise, it sort of feels like a cross between a western and eastern mech game. The mechs have some weight to the controls but not excessively so. It seems to have that quality of being accessible without being shallow, which means that it will have some longevity for me. There are lots of tactical nuances, like the ability to repair yourself in battle and deploy items like shields and turrets. Strategy is just as important as aiming ability here, which is refreshing.

In short, stomping around in a big, graceful, heavily armed mech is all kinds fun.

did alienware show any new console-sized PC hardware like the X51?

Thanks alot for your impressions guys, can someone tell if the triggers in the WiiU are digital or analog?

I have been looking around and have found nothing clear, and by the looks they seem digital which I find strange.

Thanks again and enjoy your E3
