God damn do I love a cohesive album.

And about XV: Used to be literally my favorite rapper for a little while.
Please, Hold is still my favorite.

His latest shit hasn't moved me too much. And I was the first person to post Zero Heroes on here. Hmph.

XV isn't the greatest but he's better than a lot of the boring ass rappers some of ya'll pimp in here.

Childish Gambino tries way too hard to be Lil Wayne with more pop culture references. But he makes a few good tracks. I think it's because I like him as an actor that I give him slack, if he was anyone else I'd be way tougher on him.

Yeah, agree on both points. This hashtag/super duper rap needs to die. It wont, but it needs to.

What is GAF-Hop's opinion of Childish Gambino? I personally think the dude is god-awful and corny as all fuck... but apparently some people like his stuff.

Good rapper, knows his niche and sticks to it. Would prefer to see him get away from filling his raps with punchlines. Really like his singing voice too.

I would like him to move towards what Drake is doing. I also do like his voice, like you said.

I like his voice a lot, but I don't want to see him stray away from rap. I think he's pretty damn good. I don't understand the "too serious" complaints. He gets criticized either way. I also think he has strayed far away from the Wayne comparisons. Maybe 2 songs on Camp sound Wayne-esque. MAYBE.

My favorite Gambino is uptemp wordplay Gambino.

It's decent level Wayne impersonation without so much guilt.

Unlike some of you guys , I don't dig his singing voice too much. Properly utilized I'm sure he could make some decent hooks for others. Thinking about it, Childish Gambino is probably as close to "guilty pleasure" as I get.

This is a pretty good list. Covert Coup, XXX, and Return of 4eva are definitely going on mine. I need to give Black Up another listen. I gave it a quick run a while back, and I feel like it flew way over my head. Using it as study music didn't help, i guess.

This may be controversial, but I have to say that The Roots' output over their last albums has been better than their early stuff. Game Theory, How I Got Over, Rising Down, Undun> Illadelph, Do you Want More, Things Fall Apart, Tipping Point, Phrenology. I love their early stuff, but they've eclipsed themselves.

It is hard for me to rate The Roots discography. It is all fantastic. Undun might be my AOTY.

I assumed they all were considering Papa Wu's spoken intro on Wu-Tang forever:

"That man came from monkeys, [laughing].That we was swinging from trees. I hardly can believe that unless, I'm dumb deaf and blind"

Unless I'm misinterpreting that, I can't see a man standing for that being the first track on an album you put your name on.

Now I"m curious about the Wu members stance on Evolution.

forgot about that. i think Poppa Wu is on lots of other shit too, might have his own album somewhere? i forget.
Com's dad says lotsa stuff too, i figure there's even more room for crazy old man syndrome from Wu since 5% nation strikes me as being ready to jump on board any conspiracy theory you set your eyes on - i'll give GZA the benefit of the doubt until he comes along an interview with some "man is less than ten thousand years old" shit, personally.

That new Blu is really damn good.

all i read was the track that didnt make the cut on undun, what specifically?

I don't care what he believes, as long as he puts out LS2 and it's amazing.

There is no CunninLynguists here.

Yeah, that was my bad. I set up a smart playlist to find any hip-hop albums labelled with a 2011 release. I forgot to put the release date data into the Cunninlynguists album (and a couple more). I'm all set now.

there is no Kendrick on there either :/

Don't play like it is something deep.

I truly believe LilB is making fun of the industry in most of his songs. This is the only thing me and you disagree on.

I want to believe that. But watching him in interviews and videos, i honestly do not believe he is capable of that.

even though 99% of his music is trash, he does have his moments where he shows that he could be a decent-ish rapper. the 9th wonder track is a good example, and this where he does a semi-decent kool g rap/nas impression. the lyrics aren't the greatest but his flow is decent:

edit: lil b still sucks though

well it would lose its affect if he outright stated it.

That isnt it. There is a point where fans look a bit too deep into what is a garbage rapper. Whether you think he is trolling or not, he is horrible. Is he doing it on purpose? Maybe, but that seems to be a justification fans create to justify their listening to a horrible rapper.

Is it just me or does the new Blu track sound like shit? Other than that, track is fire, I just wish the quality wasn't so shitty.

Edit: It is 160 kbps. Hmm.

Haha I know, I know :p I feel bad because I really enjoyed what I heard, but I got busy and I put it on my backlog and never got back to it. I really need to get back to listen to that, Gutter Rainbows and Weekend At Burnies again.

I dont justify listening to him at all (at least I dont think I do). I dont run around saying "Swag this" or "swag that" either. I just enjoy his music sometimes. I do agree with you about his fans though, and with OFWG it has gotten even worse. I cant count how many of my friends brothers only listen to odd future, it saddens me.

Yeah, listening to Lil B is all good, but its when people get to pimping him out and getting crazy with that swag bullshit it gets annoying. In my experience, those who go around doing that shit are not that intelligent, or don't appear to be during conversation.

SpeedingUptoStop

will totally Facebook friend you! *giggle* *LOL*
Odd Future fandom has gotten out of hand. A bunch of suburban white kids who like to be "rebellious".

I can already see into the future & ASAP Rocky's gonna be the new thing at the same level of popularity as Tyler gang. I can feel it in my blood.

Toku, you forget your hashtag. #SWAG #SWAG

Also Gafhop, this shit came on while I was in the car earlier and I got my R&B on like a motherfucker. Like the spirit came over me, getting my R&B on. Felt good.

I need to just go check his tape out, don't I? I've been putting it off for a little while now, consciously even.

Rocky is like a better version of Lil B. Not much better, but just enough to understand his appeal. He still isnt that great.

Exactly. He's actually not wasting Clams Casino beats, which is key. I fucks with the Based God on some levels, but there's no question he...can't rap. Rocky has a series of effective flows on lock, whereas Lil B doesn't have any.

I think I'll put some work into my list over the weekend.

There was this vid B put up a while back. He actually went kind of hard. I'll try to find it. It was one of those mind blown/eye opening moments.
