There was this vid B put up a while back. He actually went kind of hard. I'll try to find it. It was one of those mind blown/eye opening moments.

Every time someone posts a video or song that Lil B went "hard" on, i usually listen and wonder what the fuck they were smoking to think that.

Haha, real talk, I'm sitting here doing exactly that. I'm going through all this shit and can't find it at all.

e: I'm sure he was wearing a turban or some shit... I really can't find it at all.

Spaceghostpurrps beats knock hard as fuck though. I actually think keeping it all in house helps keep him sounding creatively cohesive, and I'm not just talking about the low fi.

I'm not as big of a fan of Clams as a lot of y'all, but I think him and Schoolboy would be an interesting mix.

Decided to give this ASAP Rocky dude a try since I see him getting mentioned. Needless to say he got deleted off of my iPod an hour later.

This will probably be the best blend of hip-hop/R&B.

Also, Nujabes' Far Fowls reminded me how awesome the guzheng (I think that's what was used.) is. Best example of it, Gorillaz - Hong Kong / Live

Hey Shinobi, since you're the only world music connoisseur that I know, do you have anything similar?

I don't know about the guzheng specifically but onra did chinese inspired beats on chinoiseries 1 and 2. Also some DJ Krush stuff would probably fit.

Edit: oh, you didn't mean hiphop. No idea then haha. House of Flying Daggers and Hero OSTs ;)

That Roots video is amazing. I need to listen to the album again (heard the stream, but didn't pay enough attention to it), but I think this will be my album of the year.

Was this posted?

New Slick Rick produced by DJ Premier for the soundtrack of “The Sitter“: Need Some Bad. Rick is crazy talented, why isn't he releasing new albums?

Because he was in prison for six years and just doesn't really care enough? His time was kinda passed man but that's okay Adventures of Slick Rick is one of the few golden age hip hop albums that has actually aged really fucking well. Slick Rick can rap circles around most dudes to this day (as that track shows). Dudes like him and Rakim will always be gods.

I rather not listen to shit music. Again, fans making excuses for shit music.
...you really, really don't understand it. Damn.

Lil B has nothing to do with A$AP Rocky, there are no similarities between them besides they use Clams Casino beats. And even then still, the ones Lil B gets are better. Rocky is an absolutely atrocious rapper, much worse than Mac Miller, and if y'all are listening to him just for the beats, well let me direct you elsewhere for some of that and more.

nah Rocky's a pretty good rapper (check his freestyles and guest verses), but he just focuses on making good songs, which ultimately is the most important skill any new rapper in 2011 needs to have and he has it in abundance.

Explain it to me then genius. You are the second person to say i dont get it, yet no one explains it. Yall are just fucking insane. Also, Asap sounds very similar to Lil B.

Yo! My man. They don't even say the same shit, or flow the same way. One is being a clown, the other is just saying shit.

Ill give him the benefit of the doubt. I have only heard a few Rocky tracks that were posted. But what i heard it sounded like a more chill, coherent Lil B. Maybe it was the beats, or something. Still doesnt explain this Lil B joke im not in on.

ASAP only has one good track, everything else is trash.

It does, but now im with a female that doesnt listen to that bullshit. I can go back to calling a turd a turd.
haha

Well, at any rate... Subject change: That Blu x Pete Rock joint was pretty smooth but I hate it when rappers give me a shimmer of hope when I won't agree with 70% of their next ventures.

Rocky is definitely co-opting Lil B's swag with that "pretty motherfucker" shit. They don't really sound anything alike, though. I find them both enjoyable.

You crazy young folk with music. Back in the old days, people actually use to make music that mattered, not this hibbedy hoppedy music you're all listening to. Social media rapstars need to die.

Naw A$AP Rocky has some good tracks, he flows adequately enough, but at times it does seem like the sum of the track owes more to the producer than to him. Brand New Guy really exposed what a hungry rapper could do over one of those beats. The comparisons to Lil B mostly originate in his swag, I don't think it's a comparison of their rapping styles, which are much different.

And just for Recon, I'll break down why I really liked Lil B' at one time in all seriousness, though that like is dwindling:

Lil B' is a sort of walking parody of various ridiculously fun eras in rap. He's like one of those awkwardly shaped circus mirrors, being held at different angles against some of the more swagged points in rap.

A$AP Rocky's multi-coastal, multicultural approach to rap and his entire pretty boy swag is taken almost directly from the Lil B' blueprint. It only seems to be working better, because Rocky's a passable rapper, whose flows sound effortless, yet you can tell he puts a lot of effort in them. While Lil B's BASED raps are purposefully brain-dead, and require him absolutely no thought.

Ok, i feel like I have always got this then. I just dont agree with the sentiment that Lil B is in on the Joke too.

He is definitely now, and it kind of ruined the appeal. Like if you were watching The Room or Troll 2 and one of the actors suddenly went "this is funny huh?"

put me in the camp that doesn't really like Lil B outside of 1 or 2 songs, but likes ASAP Rocky.

Alright. I admittedly stopped paying any attention to him. So if im getting this right, he was a glorious train wreck, but became self aware, thus ruining his appeal?

I will say that in regards to him going in seriously, his flow on Age of Information >> Rocky, but that's pretty much the lone exception.

Lil B came up through the web. Rocky came up through the NYC underground. Two totally different influences.

The NYC underground is one of the biggest scenes in the states currently. This is why Rocky is hot.
