E-40 TO RELEASE 3 BRAND NEW ALBUMS IN MARCH
West Coast Tycoon E-40 is going to start 2012 on an ambitious note: He’s releasing three LPs simultaneously on the same day in March.

“I putting out The Block Brochure: Welcome to the Soil 1, The Block Brochure: Welcome to the Soil 2 and The Block Brochure: Welcome to the Soil 3,” 40 explained recently via phone from his home in the Bay. “They’re all coming out the same day. You gonna see them in stores all sitting side by side. And they’re on iTunes.

“We’re also gonna have a special edition where you can get all three in one bundle,” he added. “A three-pack for a nice price. But if you only have enough gudda for one, get one. Then come back in a couple of weeks when you get your check and get another one. I’m milking the system. I have my own label, ain’t no liaison, no middle man. I have my own distribution. I’m not signed as no artist. I got a P&D deal which is a lovely situation.”

40 says that throughout his three discs, he’ll be telling his patented brand of ghetto tales. Brotha Lynch Hung, YG, T-Pain, Raheem DeVaughn, 2 Chainz, Snoop Dogg, Nipsey Hussle and The Hieroglyphics all appear on the projects. So, why put out three LPs at once? 40 says for one, he has “a lot to say.”

“Rappin’ is my passion,” he added. “Then there’s gonna always be people who wanna hear me. It’s like chitterlings, a lot of people don’t like chittterlings, but a lot of people love em. I’m an acquired taste. Some folks putting out three, four or five mixtapes a year. This is no dis to mixtapes. I like mixtapes. But you have some people putting out mixtapes when it really is their album, but [calling it a mixtape] is just a security blanket in case the project don’t perform well. Like ‘oh, that’s just my mixtape.’ With me, I’m putting out albums. Aint no need of beating around the focal point. With me, when you spit the shit people wanna hear, it’s gonna spread like the flu and become contagious like a yawn.” —Shaheem Reid

E-40 does not give a fuck. His die hard fans will buy all three, other fans will buy at least one. Everyone else will pirate as usual.

Sales ain't the issue. There's no way the dude can maintain any idea of cohesiveness across 3 simultaneous LPs. Graveyard & Overtime slapped, hard, but even they had filler for days.

i didn't include it in my personal list, but WUGAZI is some of the dopest shit to come out this year. it lends a kinda anthemic slant to 36 chambers... more epic. really cool. also, free.

finally listening to Detroit State of Mind - i think i get why Des is such a Danny Brown fan now.

I'm the one who zipped all four DSoM and told you to listen to them. Wth took you so long?

I've done nothing in 2011 but stan for Bronsonelli and D.Brown, and cats in this thread are still late.

I can't be the only one who can't get through a Weeknd album. So slow and boring...

Play that shit while you're naked.

2011 has been ridiculous for releases. It is the year rappers discovered the internet and released every thing t hey could. When i can make a list of 50 albums i actually liked, you know its been a good year.

shit, that's right, you did! thanks again man, my bad.
and it's just my perpetual backlog + the release schedule lately's been solid so ive been sleeping. this thread (and the tail end of OT2) brought me from damn near caught up to just getting around to that shit now, haha.

Just heard American Terrorist III and I like it a lot. TBH I like the non hip hop beats, its different and a breath of fresh air.

This Mac and Devin Go To High School Ost is pretty smooth, why couldn't get this instead of Rolling Papers Wiz?

Shits on Rolling papers from great lengths (although that's not saying much)

I feel the same. I can't listen to the album. Not my cup of tea. BUT I do like The Crew on Drake's album because of the Weeknd. That's the only song. I'll probably go back to it for a third time to see if my attitude changed about it. I'm not a big R&B fan but I appreciate the genre tons. My sister made me listen to it a lot.

few tracks into this snoop & wiz...shit's fun for an album to blaze to, certainly moreso than anything ive heard from either of em for a bit now.

looking forward to Curren$y track, of course - is Warren G featured or just doing the beats or wha?

Kind of like American Terrorist 3. The next album will definitely be better than Lasers... Seriously doubt it'll be a true return to form though.

Action Bronson in 2011 is much better than Ghostface in 2011.

Ghostface from 94 to 03 would beat the shit out of Bronson and have him make him a nice meal to break bread on.

But not now.

Mostly because Ghost became an old stale NY rapper somewhere between getting ghostwritten verses from Trife and hanging out with D-Block too much.

Maybe if Ghost puts out more music with DOOM, Pete Rock, Alchemist, RZA, old Dilla beats, MoSS, Rockwilder, etc. Maybe if he finds beats he can go crazy on instead of (admittedly, good sounding) soul beats from no names that lack the energy a great producer can give... maybe then he will be good again.

Ghost is the best storyteller and abstract, but actually somewhat cohesive, rapper (besides Aesop Rock and his bullshit) ever. His delivery is insane and always will be.

BUT, Bronson has him beat in 2011. Work ethic, a very good flow, young dude putting NY back on a map it's been lost from for a long time, awesome New York lyricism, flow, swagger, and material. Just a humble and awesome dude. Bronson is dope.

no doubt dude's worked harder this year, but nothing past '03? Apollo Kids was just last year, and it was easily top 5 material.
high hopes for Supreme Clientele Presents... Blue & Cream: The Wally Era

Nothing cannibalizes your sales like three LPs on the same day. Spread that shit out.

His sales on his last two albums says otherwise...

Don't matter to me ether way.. I know 40 goes to the studio and cuts an album in a few days.. When he signed to Jive he went to the Jive studio drank two 40s smoked an L and cut 9 tracks to the final album then... Dude is a legend

Yeah, E40 is one of those guys that if they disappeared from music, i wouldnt notice or care. Notice i didnt say anything about his quality. I recognize his status and quality, for others. I just cant stand his voice/flow. Maybe because my first exposure to E40 was U and Dat, and i fucking hated that song with a passion.

You buy albums based on the artist looks? lol

I think the bigger question is why are you questioning anyones motive for "Not" buying a HIV-Nasty album.

not questioning them not buying a v nasty album.. She is quite bad...but buying an album based on looks of an artist is high school to me...

Besides she is on the cover next to Gucci Mane who is ugly as shit too..l

I'm not really not buying the album because oh her looks, ace. The looks comment wasn't a joke, but its not the actual reason. I can't stand her as an artist, anything.

I bought Hardcore only because of the cover :D

And I would really love if E-40 releases a best of from the 45 albums he released last year. I really love some of his songs but even the most talented artist can't release 3 albums at the same time without any mediocre or even bad tracks.

Also I was a bit disappointed with the South* this year cause besides that horrible Wacka and Gucci (I can tolerate mediocre rappers but those two are worse than birdman) stuff there is not much going on it seems, but this tape almost makes up for it:

Excellent beat selection and decent flow, just how I like my ignorant rap.
