You made a Young Jeezy appreciation thread?

L of the year.

Jeezy is another rapper I'm secretly a fan of, but never will say I'm a fan of. I love all his shit, not because he is hood or real or any shit like that, just cause he knows how to deliver his raps better than most of the south. TM103 isn't a cohesive album and doesn't have as many bangers as y'all (or kams) make it sound like. Many of the songs are mediocre-to-I-just-listened-to-this. Recession was better, and RED is better than both.

I found the old TM103... and it banged harder than the new one (which I love) and felt way more cohesive...

What about the Recession isn't shitty? 5 good songs, the rest is filler, Jeezy album status quo complete. RED is a similar case, just with more bangers.

I am as west as can be... but Red only has 2 real bangers..

While Recession had at least 5...

I'm a fan of Drake's music, but can anyone be surprised when a vet takes a shot at him, when he's always talking about how the old rappers fell off and no longer have this, that, and the other? I'm more disappointed that OG Battle Rapper Common couldn't just come out and say names.

UMC didn't happen. I'm pretty sure that was Kanye with a phony beard and one of those bald caps Tom Cruise wore in Tropic Thunder. Oh, and one of Mase's old shiny suits.

LOL.

I think Nas, Cube and 50 should make a drake dis album

Those 3 making a diss album would be the most venomous shit ever.

Cube and 50 would get off track and start dissing people that each other are cool with.. Like Cube would diss Yayo and 50 would some random LA hobo that Cube tried to bring out..

Wat.. so what the hell are your bangers from RED? The Nelly Furtado joint?

Red Nation

Speakers on Blast

beats are on point... Game spits on Red Nation and Wayne on the hook is perfect.

40 water and Big Boi make up for Game's hook...

I love The Documentary, but man. Game fucking wishes he had something in his catalog as fucking awesome as "Put On." Even your boy Yeezy sleepwalking through his appearance couldn't bring that song down.

Did everyone claiming The Recession is just a status quo album from Jeezy listen to the thing more than once or twice? He tried to do something a bit out of his lane, and totally succeeded. Sure, he didn't say anything groundbreaking but it was more than just that trap music. Say what you will about dude, but he knows his strengths and knows how to use them to his advantage. Unlike Game who swings from nutsac to nutsac co-opting whatever style is hot at the time.

Well i aint got no problem if the new cat is hip hop HIV. I aint got not problem with this... cause basically it sounds like Drake heard 'Sweet' and immediately thought it was about him. Highlighting not only his selfcenteredness and insecurity but the knowledge that deep down he is the bitchmade subject of this backlash against softness. Not Big Sean, not Ye, not even the Taio Cruzes and Trey Songzes of the world. Drake knows, in his soul, that even the legends whose music he listened to coming up like Luda and Common think he is a dainty little creampuff and a negative force in hip hop. bet that stings.

Shit he is taking that softness to the bank, and I enjoy it, so tbh the whole "omg he is showing emotion, he is soft " is getting old really fast. Fuck off is what I would say to anybody that has a problem with me making the type of music I wanted to make.

Making emotional music is one thing. It's fine. Drake is good at it. He knows his lane, and I have to say Take Care is pretty good. However, being soft in terms of character is much less forgivable in my eyes.

I have no problem with emotional music. However i do resent Drake's passive aggressive disney channel date rape singraps.

I always chuckle when Drake says something like "you gon make me catch a body like that"

or

"I know it so well, I know the hustle so well..." it just doesn't sound right.

I bet anything Common is just pissy cause Serena dont fuck w/ him anymore. Although if you ask me he's better off. Who'd want to take it in the ass from that ox of a 'woman'.

Well its not like they're gonna talk about his lyrical skill. Cause right today he's than most of his mainstream peers. And they're not gonna call him out for being a fraud cause aside from a stray line here or there he stays on message. Every rapper exaggerates sometimes. But he's never purported to be anything other than what he is unlike RAWSE for example.

So what else is there left? Hey he complains about his problems w/ women and he sings sometimes, lets call him soft! Even though IMO it take more strength and character to be an open book emotionally. There's nothing soft about honesty.

Considering Drake's comments in the past and what we know, I'm not sure there's anything somebody can say about him that'd warrant a return. It isn't possible to Summer Jam Screen somebody anymore. Thanks to the internet we already know everything about our favorite rappers. There's no surprises anymore. Like...that video where he's bitching to his mama about a tuna sandwich. If that were the olden days of rap, that shit would be a permanent mark on him. Now its something we lol at for a few days, he owns it, and people move on.

sn: that Clams Casino remix of the Big KRIT song kinda sucked.

Yeah, when he dropped those lines in Headlines, I definitely got a nice laugh out of it. But hey, like others have said, most rappers do exaggerate to a degree. Pusha T's drug hustling days are long behind him but dude still spits "coke flows". Same with Ross, etc. I've just kinda come to accept the degree of exaggeration that comes with most musicians.

Thing about me & Drake is that his ass isn't writing music with any sense of legitimacy to it. If he was spitting/singing some incredibly, emotional, introspective shit, I wouldn't have any issues, but the dude isn't. His shits aren't but manufactured prose perfectly tailored with enough tears to get soft woman to go, which sells like a bitch, but does warrant the shit he catches.

Whether it's manufactured or not, I still find lots of Take Care relatable. At the end of the day that's what matters. Never really feels soulless to me me either, the production certainly isn't.

A Backpack & A Dream- Zach & Peterboy

I know some of you will not like it, but it is a personal project. I also need to adjust some of the mix, i know. But i promised myself i would get it out on Dec.20.

I can't lie, I've been there... a few times, and can relate with that a bit, but if I were to ever make it anywhere in music, you wouldn't see but a a song or verse on it from me at best. It's not fair to expect every dude to respond the same way emotionally to every instance, but I don't see that shit as but a bump in the road, and can't respect Drakes shit because of that view.

E: Ninja. lol.

yea man... we've all been there but that 'oh thats yo gurl'? shit is the worst thing. ever. it becomes hard to justify the pity party of girl problems when it's backed up with that ugly ugly behind the back bullshit.

Man, I'm really enjoying this Recon, like it reminds me of my favorite project this year. It's really personal. Drake's album is smooth and great to ride to or fuck to (I presume), but this is how you make an emotional record. Really impressed, and I'm not saying that because I know you. If I didn't like it I wouldn't hold any critical punches.

Send this to Meka and Shake, Nahright, Fader, etc.

Yeah, I'm on my second listen through now. Its honesty is sitting well with me too. Recon, I do feel as if your flow falters in random moments, but the story you're telling on this is a gripping one, and your actual lyricism has been pretty good. Peterb0y your production's great too, with a few tracks being very clear standouts. I'll go through later and name which one of those I think they are, if you'd like. It's just something I noticed it in my first listen.

Listening to it now Recons. I really really really like what you and pete have got going here. I seriously don't have much to say criticism wise other than the vocals might be mixed a touch too low... And as far as an emcee i think you could be legit fire if you worked on emphasis and punctuating your lines- i think thats the dividing line between an alright spitta and a hot one.

Great stuff though, legit a lot better than much of the sameol that gets passed around on SOHH and the like.

You and Siddx are still an awesome duo

Thanks, cant wait to get everyones verses

Thank you. I agree about my flow. To be honest, im still finding it. This project helped me out a lot by figuring out what im good at and what i need to improve on.

The only other criticism I might pose is centered on the mixing, sometimes the vocals get drowned out by the production.

Yeah, it was a quick mix, i need to take a few days and just mix it right.

Haha, thanks. I said fuck it a long time ago in regards to being labeled backpack. Might as well make fun of it a bit.

Also, just so everyone knows, every song on the album was produced by peterboy. I produced the bonus cut(it is me on guitar) and the Intro/Interludes. I only say this so you dont think Peter did a shitty job on those lol.
