Even in rap music, where 90 percent of musical arguments begin and end with side-choosing and insult-hurling, Lupe is a lightning rod. What has he done to deserve such scorn? What has he done to warrant such blind devotion? The answer to both questions, unfortunately, is "not enough": Lupe's so gifted that he remains nearly impossible to tune out completely, but his career is a sad little parable about the danger of wasted talent.

Perhaps he can sense this perception in the air. Because like most rappers who've made promises to the conscious-rap crowd that they have no intention of keeping, Lupe's music has grown increasingly sour, half-assed, and defensive as he's traveled further from the glow of his Chosen One days. Listening to Friend of the People, his wearying, dispiriting latest mixtape, you don't leave with the warm and fuzzy feeling promised in the title; you come away thinking that Lupe's underlying message these days feels closer to, "Here you are, you ungrateful motherfu*kers; I've given you something else beautiful to tear apart."

Ok, so I was watching that Kim Kardashian shit the other day, you know, the one where she be gargling on Ray J's sword, and a thought occurred to me. Everything she was saying during sex sounded awfully familiar. Then it hit me, it was word for word what my ex would say during sex with me....Now, I can chalk this up to sex talk not being overly creative no matter who you are, or the better possibility that my ex was trained on sex talk by Kim K. I knew my ex was a whore, but I didnt realize she was apparently taking lessons from Kim. That was a weird day.

Just wanted to tell you dudes that Cool Calm Pete is still so chill. Lost is such a good album for when you're by yourself and are in a calmer mood.

What's the next thing to look out for? Wanna keep on top of things things in 2012, completely lost track around April last year
