Jaylib fucking sucks.

And this is how you know Jaylib is awesome.

He's right. Dilla was a good rapper but Madlib isn't, at all. There are also some bad guest appearances on the album. It goes back to the idea of beat junkies being more interested with production than rapping imo. You see a lot of it on Stones Throw's forum where everyone just loves Madlib and wants instrumentals of all the shit he does with bad rappers.

I think Dilla was great, obviously his drum work was crazy. Welcome 2 Detroit is a classic album imo. But I do feel people go overboard with some of the praise. Lightworks is such a shitty beat to me yet people love it. Also I hate how rappers feel they need to rap over stuff that doesn't even sound like it's meant for a rapper (Two Can Win, Lightworks, etc)

I've always had mixed feelings about this...some beats don't sound like they should be rapped over and usually turn out badly when they are but I don't know if that's because no one has done the beat justice yet or if it just isn't suitable as anything but an instrumental/no vocal

Like one of my favorite Dilla beats is the Donuts outro and I'd like to hear it rapped over but...is it possible?

It seems like there's a perception that hip hop producers simply make "beats" to be rapped over, and all their work is an instrumental until someone hops on it. We're seeing some people transcend that mentality now, like Clams Casino and Arab Musik's recent albums. No one looks at a DJ Shadow or Flying Lotus album and says "aw man I need to jump on that!" It's its own genre of music and I feel like there was a clear difference between Dilla's instrumental works and what he saw as tracks for rappers or singers. For instance, the Ghostface tracks on Donuts which were specifically made for him.

Yea, I started really being able to sort of differentiate between the two types of beats after Shinobi got me into it. Clams Casino kinda rides the line betweent great instrumentals and beats meant for a rapper. A lot of the newer producers are on that tip (or try to be). Skywlkr (Danny Brown) is another one.

One of the things pissing me off about last years end of year lists is that everyone was giving Clams position for the fucking instrumental tape he dropped while totally fucking ignoring the Rainforest EP which was superior partly because it was meant to be an instrumetal album but because it was legit great. The "I'm God" beat is not "I'm God" without Lil B.

Guess this is just the Post Dilla era of producing records? /hipster

Also, suck a dick Nabs.

Lupe pic did make me lol. There's no need for anyone to even troll the guy anymore. He does it better than anyone else could.

pol pothead I'll check that stuff out. David Banner and Kamikaze dropped some gems too. The first two David Banner solo albums are also very good. His new one though....eh.

It means despite wayne being a joke himself, he recognizes terrible albums as well.

wayne is saying nobody gives a shit about "the throne" when Cash Money is churning out platinum albums faster than anybody in rap.

By no one tho, wayne means 12 year old girls.

Also, I'm loving this, but I've liked all the 24 hour karate school albums..

Don't like Adele but it's a better song. Not that it's hard to be a better song than All Of The Mess.

I think all these back and forth subliminals are just inside jokes, nothing serious.

Lupe is either on drugs or just doesn't give a damn.

agreed 100% Fuck that dude. Jay should have black balled his bitch ass from the industry.

I really don't get why Jay didn't fuck his life up, or why other artists just don't refuse to work with the guy. I mean, fuck everything else, it's just bitchmade to fuck up a girl like that. Whatever.

It's funny, girls (or quite a few I've encountered) were pretty quick to forgive and forget but every dude I know who is even just a little aware of CB and what he did Rhianna still don't understand how he's still making music/selling records.

Still can't believe Chris Brown is around. Never done this before but...smh.

I remember arguing he'd turn his career around and get huge again with a bad boy image and GAF Pop folks were like nahh, he's done. Never underestimate fangirls. These chicks honestly believe Chris was justified to some degree in beating the shit outta Rihfund.

Man if I was a rapper there's no way I could congregate with that dude. And it wouldn't even be out of an attempt to simp/smash Rihfund, lord knows I don't find her attractive. Just out of principle, I can't be friends with a dude who destroys a woman's face

I don't even like Rihanna, I think she's obnoxious as hell and I don't like her music at all.
And I'm not the kind of guy to say "there is never a reason to hit a woman". If a woman tries to attack me I'll knock her on her ass.
But Brown is just bitchmade, there was no excuse for what he did, and then instead of being humbled by the experience he acts like a fucking twat all the time. Crybaby bitch fuck.

Yeah, that's worst part. You say you don't like Brown, suddenly you're white knighting Rhianna. Fuck her too. No talent assclown.

I always think the same thing. I have a strange mind (shocking I know) and on occasion I fantasize about being famous and doing talk shows or radio and what people would ask me, and after reading something about brown the other day I was imagining what I'd say if someone asked me about all the shittalking I do on gaf and how I'd explain I don't really have a problem with anybody personally, there are just aritsts whose music I don't enjoy and I like being a sarcastic dick, but that the only guy I truly think is a piece of shit is Chris Brown and how it would end up being some big deal and words would go back and forth and I'd end up running into him somewhere and I'd knock him out after he put his hands on me...yeah I think of weird shit when I'm drunk. And then was a very long run on sentence.

Him and Budden can do a "Worst of Both Worlds" record. Then get hooked to meth, like Bubbles and that other fuck from The Wire.
