So I'm in the mood for some really hard aggressive hip hop, but I have no idea what I should look for. Any suggestions would be awesome :), doesn't matter if it's mainstream or not(prefer not in a way).

Here's what I usually listen to: Wu-Tang Clan, Slaughterhouse, Kid Cudi, Kanye, Beastie Boys, Black Star/Mos Def, Jay-Z, Geto Boys, A Tribe Called Quest, MF Doom/Madvillain/Vaudville Villain, Nas, PUTS, and The Roots.

I posted this in the "Lifting Music" thread a while back, but it applies.

The only correct answer:

Onyz - All We Got Iz Us

The whole album.

Not sure if any of GAF is into Nappy Roots but their new album Pursuit of Nappyness has some nice stuff on it. There are some throwaway tracks too in my opinion, but there are some really great ones as well. It's worth a listen for sure.

I'm curious, what albums do most of you listen to for inspiration? Not only for inspiration but also an album that kind of makes hiphop alive for you again, that re-ignites the flame again, so to speak.

These albums for me:

Palestine - Land Of The Lost
DJ K.O. - Picture This
Masta Ace - A Long Hot Summer
Nas - Illmatic / Stillmatic / It Was Written
Modill - Midnight Green
Zion-I - The Takeover
Brother Ali - Us
Cannibus - Can-I-Bus / Rip The Jacker
Cormega - Born & Raised
Finale & Spier 1200 - Develop
Freestyle - Etched In Stone
Freeway & Jake One - Stimulus Package
JR & Ph7 - The Standard

Some good tracks, the majority very forgettable.

I heard that Fat Joe's recent album (Darkside Vol. 1) was actually good (I know):

If anyone has this, lemme know how they feel the album is overall:

I've a few nice tracks like these:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkvrnQ1v7n4

EDIT: This album is album is fire.

And question: Is it true that Big Pun ghost wrote this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cl2S2yklVoc?

Fat Joe's album is awesome... 8/10 easy. Nice simple hypnotic beats, and his flow seems to have came a long way. It's a throwback to the Don Cartagene era of his career.

Listen to any of the shit that I posted above...There are a handful of new rappers with styles that resemble the raw 90's east coast scene.

Edit: Also I wanted to say that Vinnie Paz's album has grown on me exponentially since my first listen...And has catapulted into my top ten favorite album releases of the year. I was trying to boardslide this handrail yesterday and kept eating shit...Then, just as I was about to say fuck it Vinnie Paz's "Warmonger" came on my headphones and renewed my energy eventually leading to a successful boardslide about 5 tries later.

Right now I'm listening to slightly older XV continuing to be mindblown.
They're not all amazing but there's a bunch of great lines in some of the songs on Please, Hold. Vizzy Zone may end up being a holiday for me.

I went to a show last nite, to see Turbo perform live,

Turbo aka T Double aka Battletoad,

creator of such fine songs like

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGJFyDRojng
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7F1NROtUm-A

but known mostly for:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBHxXufqOEY

he gave me a CDR copy of his new mixtape, but I'll make sure to post here when he throws it up online.

in the meantime, check out his previous work at this website:

http://turbotdouble.com/tsst/

he's awesome and I highly recommend him!!

but the main reason I went last nite, the main event,

the PHARCYDE!!

Pharcyde is seriously one of my favorite groups growing up, Labcabincalifornia is in my top 5 of all time,

it was dope coz they were performing over a live band,

but it sux coz Fatlip was blatantly absent!!!

wtf?!?! I dont think I'll ever get a chance to experience one of my favorite groups ever live the way they were meant to be experienced...

likewise... Bone Thugs n Harmony, or going to a Boot Camp show with no OGC >_<

What big name albums are we still expecting to drop this year?
The only ones I can think of are Kanye, Jeezy and Freddie Gibbs.

Definitely some dirty south goodness. Goes hard with some tens in the back.

Edit: Oh yeah and I'm also enjoying the hell out of the Gibbs EP and of course the new Dizza but that's not really news.

Yeah it was me, love Bohagon since I heard some mixtape (Power Move) of his couple years ago, he also is/was in a group (Georgia Dirt) with Playboy Tre/who is signed to Grand Hustle and affiliated with B.o.B.) who released the awesome "Goodbye America" tape last year (or was it 2008?)

Bohagon - Walk a mile
Tre - Goodbye America

And my god at that track, I think it was posted here and I dl'd it but just listened to it now for the first time, DZA second verses is brilliant:

DZA and Krit - Secret

Too bad that most of his lyrics are just about smoking (not in that case though) I'd like to hear more shit like that.

I'm confused. What's 'Power''s purpose? Kanye's album doesn't drop till' the fall, right? Does it even have a name yet?

It used to be called Good Ass Job, but now, after being canceled, it's unknown.

Director of Power said the name being thrown around right now is "Twisted Dark Fantasy" but it probably won't stick.

Just heard the whole song as I just bought the entire track off iTunes - really wish I hadn't. Very disappointing. At least the beat is hype. I want that instrumental.

Just copped this for 7 bucks randomly as I've never heard of the guy, but shit was it worth it. The album is super chill, the album reminds me of The Illz's though the not quite as good, as the guy's voice takes some getting used to but shit it's still quite fucking dope. Super east coast sounding for a guy from Pasadena.

Edit: It keeps getting better the more I listen to it. And people try to claim hip-hop is dead. Fuck. His flow and voice somehow became reminiscent of Blu.

Sample Songs

Versis - Travelin'

Versis - Spittin' In The Wind

In my continuing attempt to learn more about hip-hop, I figured I might as well give Eminem a chance. When he was mega huge all I heard were the singles, and I wasn't so into them, or hip-hop at all, really.

I'm working my way through the disco over the past few days and overall, pretty good stuff. Sometimes the corniness gets to me, but the good outways the bad. Marshall Mathers LP blew me away. I even liked The Eminem Show and Curtain Call a great deal.

Then I get to Relapse. Holy mother of fuck is this horrible. Who told him that that god awful accent was a great idea to use near CONSTANTLY. Holy crap. I was almost tempted after the first few tracks to just skip to Recovery, since I've read it's a ton better.

Glad you enjoyed the MMLP and The Eminem Show, def his two best albums, imo. Though I've only listened to a handful of his earlier work (its on my to-do-list, though).
Recovery is nice, definitely a step up from Relapse, better than Encore and Curtain Call, worse than The Eminem Show. And he'll never be able to top the MMLP.

What kinda bugs me is that it seems he's not even trying.

Just drop the stupid gimmicks (screaming/fake accents) and release a record with one good producer. Can you imagine a chill Em storytelling over a Black Milk or Big Krit beat?

He's one of the richest and most respected dudes in the game and he gets corny and shitty ass beats like his 2 awful singles off recovery? I mean I can tell he has a horrible ear for beats just listened to the tracks he produced..

He needs to do an underground tape just for his (literally) old fans since it was them who bought all the albums back then before he just became of the guys he so despised.
