Put Yonkers on Bastard and I'll take Bastard any day over Goblin. Goblin just doesn't have anything I care to let play when a song rolls around as I'm shuffling through my music. That said, I think it's good, I just don't care to listen to any of it ever again.

Also, as far as Tyler being compared to this or that rapper, I think we can all agree that this kid has a crazy amount of talent. Whether it be rapping, producing, self-promoting, or making videos.

So hiphop-productionGAF, what do you use to fatten up your beats? Been listening to Self Scientific mixtape and its bonkers how well rounded it is.

Also, we need a Hiphop-productionGAF thread.

I'm rocking this baby:

the only good thing about Goblin is that it confirmed that the only people i'm going to check out from ofwgkta in the future are mellowhype and frank ocean

fl studio man too huh?

I love ableton. I've just gotten back into making beats.. dabbled a little in high school but nothing too serious. I've made a few quick songs recently. what was that about a GAF mixtape? I'm up to produce/spit a little, if it's really happening.

I'm going to school for audio production, haven't really got into the whole producing beats yet. Probably going to try teaching myself later this month.

Would be cool to share beats with each other/criticize and all that lovely stuff. I spit as well(since this is the first time hearing about a gaf mixtape, would be cool)

I use Reason 4, took my stubborn no tutorial reading ass forever to get the hang of it and I still have tons of stuff I don't understand. I also need a better keyboard. I have an M Audio KeyStudio that is decent enough to get the job done, but I hate the way the keys feel, they have this soft, sticky kind of feel that makes it hard to do rapid strokes.

It isn't. Blame Peterboy and the million producers we have and like, 3 emcees.

sad. well make it 4 emcees (me) if anybody does actually decide to do anything with it. I'd post some of my stuff but I don't wanna seem like I'm boosting myself.

definitely considering taking classes soon. I'm pretty much self taught. and random tutorials online.

Well, you know, it's summertime. People might have a little more slack in their schedules. This might be a good time to try it again. Doing it at least once would be pretty godlike, since it seems to always fall apart. Heck, it might even become a yearly summer event.

Well 5 emcees(me too) I'm definitely up for it and been trying to improve my rap skills and such. I'm planning to release my own mixtape sometime this year, but kind of delaying it because I want to produce my own tracks and don't really want it to sound that amateurish.

I recently just changed to audio production.....I'm not exactly sure what beat making program I should use. I have Reason and Fruity Loops, but just haven't got the time to mess around yet, waiting until my classes end.

I would love to put some of these endless pages of lyrics to beat again, it's been way too long since I recorded anything. But my issue is a lack of facilities. I can jury rig my shitty 50 dollar mic into my computer and record some low quality stuff but it pains me to do so. There is one studio in this area that is too expensive, and nobody I know has a home studio set up. I might just break and try to get the best quality I can out of my mic.

You know what... I might have to try this out. I always make joke raps with my friends but this stuff is different and could be interesting.

edit: Yeah, like siddx said my biggest issue would be the mic.

I'd say that's better than nothing

Do you guys have condensor mics(I assume not because yall said around 50 dollars lol)? If not it really depends on how much you are willing to spend....my whole setup with my mic and such probably cost around 500-700(Mic, Stand, pop filter, mixer, and cables). Amazon usually has crazy discounts on that stuff too like half price.

Like I said though, I'm definitely up for it and yeah something is better than nothing

I'll probably record at home if anything comes to fruition even though there's a studio 5 minutes away from me. The guy who runs it charges so much, me and some friends used to save up for that shit when we were younger and had crazy dreams. I've never tried it but recording at home should be listenable at least right?

I just got a Rode NT1A and an mbox mini. if any of you guys are serious enough about your music, you should definitely save up. pretty damn good quality for how much I spent, I think.

You definitely spent much more than I did, but I've been thinking of upgrading my mic and what is the mbox for?

I got a Audio Technica AT2020 with Behringer Xenyx 802 mixer.

Probably going to upgrade my mic on my next paycheck, the one you have sounds awesome.

thanks, it's pretty nice. mbox is a recording interface.

I've tried learning ableton but it's too "open" for me.
I'm trying to make the jump to Cockos REAPER, but the ease of FL always makes open that up first and work in it. The sound is better in REAPER though.

Im almost done with my first mixtape/album, but i would be down for a gaf-tape. I have tried to get it started, but everyone that says they want to do it end up stop communicating and i feel like an ass when i keep bugging them about it so i drop it.

Ah, I'll have to ask one of my teachers the difference between what you have and what I have lol. I never heard of Clams Casino.

I'm truly down for it, especially if there's beats. I mean I think we could get this done if we use skype or any other methods of communicating and discuss what kind of songs we want to make and such. Just gotta have dat focus mang.

Someone said earlier that The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill wasn't written by Lauryn Hill(I believe?) and that she has a bad attitude, that's all.

The deluxe edition of "Goblin" made it to spot:3 on the itunes albums charts. Don't know if that's necessarily good or not, but a chart is chart.

And talking about deluxe edition, why the fuck did he save the two best tracks on the album for the bonus disc? "Burger" and "Steak Sauce" are both top-tier-yonkers level tracks.

Man. I live in Ohio, and Amazon decides to send my copy of Goblin from WV, across Ohio, to Indianapolis. So now it's chilling in Indy, and I wish I just would have bought it at Best Buy on the way home. Fucking mail. I'll be lucky to get it by the end of the week.

Whoa, Goblin is at bestbuy? Some reason I thought it wouldn't be(Other small artists' albums weren't at bestbuy, so I just don't go there anymore). Looks like i know where I'm going tonight. Also, I don't really get that caught up in how much an artist sells, but I'm interested in how well Goblin will do.

He produces a lot of Lil B songs. Including the legendary I'm God

Lil B needs to make a mixtape w/ production from just Clams Casino, Beautiful Lou and Silky Johnson

So Based. So chill.

(yeah i like Lil B enough to find out who produces his shit cause it's incredible. i've actually had a few email convos w/ Beautiful Lou about beats and music in general.)

Oh really? I always wondered where Lil B got his beats from....I heard he mainly got them because people just email them to him lol. Yeah, I like Lil B's taste in beats.

I never heard of Elzhi before he started promoting this Elmatic thing. It's good. Really solid, but if you're in the mood for Illmatic.....ya know. You listen to Illmatic.

Didn't Fashawn just do one of those? I dunno about the whole "Tribute Album" thing. Sounds kinda dumb to me. Elmatic has some really good flows on it, but everything it bitten. The beats are hilarious at times. The Royce cameo takes the cake though. It kinda overshadows all the other iffy stuff about the project.

He sure did. It was bad. Got burned hard on that one. Kweli's verse on Life's a Bitch was novel though, everything else was meh.

This one's solid. El has some skill. He should make something original though. I'll have absolutely no desire to listen to this again.

Naw El has lyrics to go. I don't want anyone to think I'm knocking him as a rapper, the raps are good. It's just the concept and beats are shit. In fact I'm looking up his other right now, so maybe the lame publicity stunt did work. /shrug
