I can understand that, no complaints there. However I definitely would question someone who can't appreciate Illmatic or thinks it's not good. Whether it's the flows or wordplay or concepts, whatever. Granted if you don't like the production that much I can give you a pass - I think it's amazing obviously, but I can see why a younger person might not fuck with the 90s east coast sound.
We're not talking about MF DOOM, or other shit that is abstract or "out there" enough to turn some people off. I think albums like Illmatic and Ready To Die are high enough barometers of quality that it's hard not to shake my head at someone who doesn't like them. It's like someone trying to say Purple Rain isn't good. What are you doing?
