Ocean's situation is pretty much exactly what you see from a major pushback in the unknown. Scarce details and not much more again, also it's telling when an artist gives out a release month as that means you can be 110% sure they will not hit it and are just trying to get something moving within the label which will lead to a restructuring of their marketing strategy. He might just be looking to get released at this point.

Rock is coming out September 18th, Top said typo when the release date intially said september 18th 2016.
The pre-orders do not really control the release date, they are using it as a stunt to drive up sales.

On one hand, it's not going to make anyone care about Jay Rock if they didn't already.

I love TDE, but after the foolishness...the whole concept of that group seems like a fad. Dudes were suppose to be the chosen ones. I wanted a group that would emulate the glory days of west coast hip hop. Just like Odd Future, A$AP Mob, and other "movements", the shit was a spark in the beginning...now it's just complete struggle. I'm seriously considering to be like fuck hip hop, I'm going full house music...but I always come back because Hip Hop breh.
They have their own place to congregate now, that section80 site or whatever. Plus KTT splintered into two forums as well.

I understand holding Kendrick and Q to certain standards since they're on Interscope and have the machine behind them. Holding Jay Rock and the rest of the group to a similar standard makes no fucking sense. Big artists like J Cole or Kendrick can afford to not release non stop songs or projects. They have the audience's attention the minute they decide it's time to go.
Small artists don't have that luxury. They can't afford to disappear for a year, or multiple years in the case of Jay Rock. They have to feed and maintain a fanbase. Look at Bronson or Spitta, and what they did to build their fanbases. I'm not saying they need multiple projects a year like those dudes, but there's no excuse for Rock having NOTHING released in four years. I "get" that big artists don't release mixtapes (although to be fair Drake was planning on releasing a free mixtape before deciding to charge for it, and Cole has released mini mixtapes). Why can't a Jay Rock type release a mixtape? Because TDE won't let him. Same with Rashad and SZA and Ab Soul. They're on a strict "no more mixtapes" regimen due to TDE and that shit is idiotic.
