Yup. Every time they've linked up it has been fire. More importantly Khaled "gets" that Nas can't rap over everything. Give him a beat that suits his style(s) and he's all set.

That lush production him and Ross always get fits Nas perfectly. Beats like Amsterdam, Blessing In Disguise, Trap Luv, Super High, the Maybach Music joints, Rich Off Cocaine, Cigar Music....whew.

Finished Rodeo, and for someone that never checked Travis Scott before, I can say that the Kanye-esque vocalizations run strong with this one.

For my first listen I liked the album because I'm a sucker for good productions, and this album has great production all around. Even though some tracks are totally forgettable (IMO Antidote, Impossible, Pornography), some of those tracks go the fuck in (Night Call, Apple Pie, 3500)

Justin Bieber's flow surprised me on a positive way, really fit the beat and outshined Thugga & Travis.

Finally... Wtf Kanye

Gibbs is cool but I can't do a whole album with him when Jay Rock does the gangsta shit better. I need to pay that album a revisit just to see if my opinion will change because folks were going crazy for the album, while I was like meh...

I feel like we went over this and came to a consensus. Gibbs does gangsta so much better because he doesn't constantly try to renew his gangsta accolades. He tells the story of life as it is, and is capable of moving on.

You said it yourself, you dug the instrumentals. Part of the reason it resonated with people. Gibbs just brings it all together, I fail to see how that brings the project down to a meh.

Like I said...I need to pay the album a revisit. I remember bumping Old over Pinata' during that time and never looked back. So I'm going to make it my duty to play it sometime this week just to see about a change of opinion.

I was listening to RTJ2 a few days ago, shit still holds up hard. Haven't listened to Pinata in awhile, I'll do it tonight. I played that album almost front to back for months.

Not long ago I was opposed to another RTJ this year; I really wanted solo albums and felt this would be the perfect time for them to essentially re-introduce themselves (now that the fanbase/attention is higher than ever). But now I'm curious about what a RTJ3 record could be, this year or next year. There's a danger to the second sequel, obviously. RTJ2 was so much better than RTJ1 that my expectations are higher now. Everyone wants to collab with them...how will they balance that without dropping some bloated album with a bunch of features.

Seems like De La Rocha will be back. Nas seems like a sure shot, based on the picture of them in the studio. Maybe Kendrick. I know they'll have some non hip hop features too. Basically I don't want this to be some indie MBDTF type record. Keep it simple, throw in some cool features. Lots of bangers. Call it a day.

Even though my ranking is Monster > Beast Mode > 56 Nights
Fuck with all three heavily though I just love the way future's melodies sound with Zaytovens instrumentals.

Couple of tracks in and I figured out why I was meh about the album. It's his voice. Dude is a nice rapper, but he sounds monotone as hell on the album. Shitsville knocks though.


Anywho, back to the listening session.
