I'm wondering if Isiah is the Cappadonna of TDE, because they treat dude like he's a leaper in the booth. I sense envy.

IDK about envy but if there's anything worrying about TDE it's their insistence on others sitting out while they promote another project. Who can grow with those kinds of restraints?

Ab-Soul and Rock are special cases cause Soul was obv dealing with some huge emotional shit and probably drugs compounded while Rock had the label troubles, but Rashad and SZA don't really have any ladders placed infront of them. Just take these features, sit quiet and wait a few years and hope people don't have expectations.

So you're sitting there, new song comes on. It's got a nice build to it, nice beat, funky bassline. You start thinking the track has got a ton of potential. First bar you hear is, "I be that nigga they call Jay Rock, I'm a rapper"

Almost ruined the whole track for me, luckily it pulls itself together a bit after the beat switch.

It's really a shame how that management is run when SZA and Rashad had good debut albums. As it was stated on here, it's obvious that TDE is riding on Kenny's success and not doing much to bring their label to the forefront. Same shit happened to Odd Future. People were checking for Tyler's rhymes about eating corpses, riding Llamas and screaming "Free Earl", but once Earl came home...meh. Labels shouldn't be run like fads and there shouldn't be all eyes on one rapper in the clique.

It's like if Suge was focus on the success of Doggystyle that he put the Dogg Pound's solo album on the streets for easy bootlegging. The hustle is ass backwards.

Gumbo's hook is lightweight corny as hell. Most TDE hooks are actually.

I wish I could elaborate but I hear that shit and I'm like..."no" inside.

I actually like the hook. Better than the usual shit that comes with most hooks. It compliments the song very well.

Smh...I seriously don't know what the hell happened to 90059. If Rock would have kept a introspective approach along with bangers like the 2nd half of Easy Bake...it would have been a classic to be honest. Dude found his purpose, but took a L trying to do his best Kendrick Lamar routine.

Enzo is right tho. When you're a smaller artist you can't afford to not release shit. Rashad released a dope project last year and since then has been on radio silence outside of a couple small features. SZA tours and records, that's it. Worse yet her features are almost TDE exclusive. How do you diversify your fanbase when you're only working with your clique?

Not saying you have to be Spitta and release shit every 3 months. But good lord, you need something every year or so right? What works for Cole or Kendrick does not work for a smaller artist. It's like these dudes forget Jay Rock's last album sold 6k first week in 2011. That Money Trees verse was three years ago. Come on.

at this point you gotta drop yearly like EA Sports unless you're really on like that. and somewhere in between that you gotta drop an EP or something. keep the streets fed.

Yup. Drake would still be hot if he wasn't dropping loosies but think about how well those tracks worked out for him. 0 To 100, How About Now, Trophies, etc. Those aren't Wayne-esque lazy freestyles or rapping over other people's beats, they're legit songs he could perform for a decade.

I respect that Cole and Kendrick don't do that; imo there's nothing right or wrong about this, it's just their preference. But let's be real: Jay Rock isn't on Bronson's level, or Spitta's, or probably not even Mick Jenkins'. He can't afford not to release shit consistently and keep his name out there, do features, etc.

Side note but it'll be interesting to see how Dreamville's artists pan out. Cole has them releasing actual albums, not mixtapes. Bas' album sold <4k first week, the other two dudes didn't chart. Can they ever reach the heights TDE saw in 2011/2012 (not including GKMC)? HnC sold 48k independently, that's pretty crazy.

You never fail to surprise. I think that song is one of the most at fault for ruining the albums flow.

If anything Studio and Hell of a Night ruined the album. Hoover Street gave Oxymoron that H and C edge, especially during the beat switch up. It's like the album was meant to be dark, but those two tracks killed the overall theme of the album imo.

At least Hoover Street isn't Los Awesome. Disgusting. 😷

I might also be confusing songs. All of those songs are clustered together if I remember correctly. Terrible clusterfuck.

I like Studio and Hell of a Night. Nothing special, but enjoyable. Los Awesome is notable for being one of the worst rap tracks I've ever heard. Trying to listen to it past the first 30 seconds is like an endurance challenge.

I absolutely hate Hell of a Night. I hate Los Awesome. Studio was okay, but now I hate it. Hoover ain't too bad, just way too long.

They get glossed over but the bonus tracks are pretty awful too. Listen to Gravy if you hate yourself. 🙉

No I wasn't confused, I had them all sorted out in my mind

Hoover Street is definitely terrible. However Snugs was right, Los Awesome is a special kind of awful. I had completely scrubbed that song from my memory.

Seems like I lose my music collection every other year. Lost it two days ago. Now all I've got is Townes Van Zandt and Travis Scott

This happened to me after collecting for 7 years. I've moved to streaming just because I can't be bothered to rebuild it all. Really sucks...

Hoover Street is pretty much a standard Q track...Nothing spectacular, but nothing particularly awful about it either other then the length.

Oxymoron has Gangsta, Hoover Street, Prescription/Oxymoron, Break the Bank, and Man of the Year. All great tracks. Actually, I'll straight up take every one of those over the best songs on 90059.

The lows are lower though. The Purge, Hell of a Night. (Edit: Wait lmao, 90059 title track).

Has okay-good songs like Studio, Blind Threats, What They Want.

It's a better album.
