DOOM must have caught feelings over us discussing Grimm.

GAF Hop got Doom back in the booth though :D.

WE MADE IT!

I guess it was taken down. RapCats is sending it to people who signed up for their newsletter first (lol). Maybe they pushed the green light too early.

Shit is cool. Nice r&b chops.

TRU-True

Tru_True.jpg

Heading into the summer of 1995, it’s about time for another No Limit album, but not just any album. The first major release from the group TRU (The Real Untouchables) entitled “True”. Anticipation levels were through the roof as this was the album that put No Limit Records on the map. Before this album, No Limit was just an independent label and a record store, yet one track changed everything….Bout It Bout It. The single that made this album #25 on the R&B/Hip Hop billboard charts. Now let’s talk about the album. Dope cover is dope, I remember going to a record store in New York City during a class trip and seen this CD on the shelf. Intense breathing occurred as I broke my wrist trying to throw my money at the cashier in order to get this album. Popping that CD into the CD player gave me a rush as I indulged in some of the hardest tracks like “Last Dance”, “Walk like a Killer”, and “Mobbin Through the Hood”. This album had it all, dope beats, gangsta rhymes, and not a bit of flaw on the album.

Now back to the single “I’m Bout it, Bout It”. This single was a huge deal because not only it put No Limit on the radar of radio stations and fans across the nation, but they finally had their own identity. No more riding the Bay Area wave as Master P finally stayed True to himself (No pun). Imagine The Beatles album Revolver and its transition from poppy songs to more serious political and drug induced songs. Imagine listening to Nas “It Was Written”, seeing the progression in his story telling and lyrical content. Master P realize that it is time to break the doors off of the hinges of Hip Hop and let some southern folks in the cut. On the day, Andre and Big Boi got booed in NYC for being “bammas”, P was coming up with a blueprint for the south to takeover…and it was this album. It’s like the beginning of New Jack City where Nino Brown, G Money, and The Duh Duh Man coming up with a plan to take over the streets. Instead, it’s the Miller boys and some of their associates rubbing their hands as the record received the stamp of approval.

In conclusion, BUY THIS ALBUM! It is truly a must own for any type of hip hop fan from turnt up to herb backpacker.

Overall Score: 9.5

I just can't...I'm getting too old for this. My heart can't take no more of these bombs :(. Fucking Hip Hop trying to put me on a stretcher.

'What a Time To Be Alive' first impression: It's the same Drake and same Future we've been experiencing. That's not good nor bad; it just IS. They didn't add nor subtract from one another, granted I would have liked the former. It didn't seem like a duo album; It was two people doing what they do. This project didn't NEED to happen, it just did for some reason.

Mooose called it, give him dap. A couple months ago the rumblings got blatant on Twitter about Madlib and Blu, but I thought it was bullshit. Figured the UCLA album fuckery ensured they'd never work together.

I'm hyped. I never learn my lesson but hey, Blu over mastered/mixed Madlib beats? I'm in.

I agree, but it still has some cool tracks. Nothing mind-blowing. Diamonds Dancing, though.

Mastered being the key word here. Whew. And physical copies. Shit I'll probably cop the CD version.

Even the guest list looks decent.

The dudes that listen to Future/Thugga/Keef for their lyrics are probably them guys that go to MC Donalds for some good salad or cop that Playboy for them interviews.

I listen to Future and Thugger for the lyrics...

Feeling the same as a few of you about What A Time To Be Alive. Sounds good, but ultimately I've had my fill of some of these songs already. I didn't really have high expectations, just wanted some bangers. Even something like Plastic Bag has a great beat and a pretty good chorus, but it is shallow and doesn't fit a need at all for me. I'm the Plug feels like a track I've heard this year numerous times and it has been done better. Nothing of worth in 30 for 30, it's a Drake song that is just the dude in the middle of the motions. No ambition, nothing to talk about, just crooning. Reminds me of the latter half of If You're Reading This in that it does absolutely nothing of worth. I still feel like Views will be better than '15 Drake.

Stand outs are Diamonds Dancing, Jumpman, Digital Dash, Scholarships, Big Rings (despite the obnoxious chorus).

Her and Boots actually did the production. Impressive to see it maintains that quality from her Arca EP.

Oh, I thought about double checking that but I was convinced a few of the tracks were Arca. Definitely carrying on his style of prod.
