I have fallen way the fuck behind in music. I'm only just now able to do some catching up but there is just too much to pick up all together, anybody mind chiming in with opinions on the new albums from the following?
Scarface - Starts off being like this great blast from the past until you realize every song follows the same basic formula and there isn't going to be any gangsta shit to break up the monotony.
K Camp - Some fantastic hits on here, but it's just not very consistent and almost a little too radio friendly...Definitely worth checking out though
Tyga - Incredible production, but Tyga's emptiness and swagger jacking will grate on you by the end I guarantee and you'll never want to replay it
Method Man - Basically a compilation of meth and friends where the no-name, unskilled friends share just as much time on the mic over uninspired Bobby-Digital lite sounding beats.
Chevy Woods - Nothing really bad about this, definitely worth checking out...It's mostly downtempo bangers, but there's some solid work on here and great features. Great riding around the town music.
Snowgoons - Same old same old with little evolution or progression, but if you want to listen to hard boom-bap revivalist shit you could do worse.
Young Dro - If you're talking about Hell Cat it has some true bangers if you can tolerate some auto-tune, but it wouldn't be an album I'd personally think you'd be into
Do or Die - Starts off really strong with some tracks that really take you back to the early 90s murderous southern rap stylistically, yet it fades really quickly into some whack soft shit with a bunch of failed attempts at incorporating more pop sounds.
Underachievers - It's supposed to be this incredible reflective poetic concept album, but there's nothing very catchy or memorable in terms of the music they're rapping nor their song writing, which is less of a knock against their lyrical ability than their song making ability.
Paul Wall - It's not too bad, but he's really just been trying to re-ignite the hype of the People's Champ but he doesn't seem to have the same sort of vigor or knack for street savvy one-liners like he did in the past.
Foreign Exchange - They've basically abandoned any semblance of hip-hop and went to a neo-soul, disco revival sort of album. It's okay.
Sir Michael Rocks - Avoid at all costs, the album is basically an expansion of the Playstation 1.5 sound where Michael is on some half-rapping half off key crooning shit over vaporwave like beats. AVOID
2 chainz - Surprisingly good tape, though it's not banger after banger like people might want...2 Chainz never goes conscious, but he's definitely experimenting with his sound and flow a bit over here, and it's just a tad less ignant than you might expect.
Casey veggies - Sounds like a Dom Kennedy album without the beats and a more try-hard emcee.
Apollo Brown - If you like Apollo Brown you'll love this, definitely check it out, the beats are more of his usual soulful boom-bap affair and there are some great features on this.
Fetty Wap - Pretty fucking repetitive, but if you've enjoyed his singles you might enjoy this, it just seems rather one-note and like he's reusing the same melodies over and over.
Eric Sermon - It seems like none of these older cats know how to employ non-abrasive hooks that aren't so heavy handed, outdated, and cheesy. I mean honestly Sermon still can rap pretty well, but the beat selection and hooks really bury this shit man. It has some features you might like though too.
Scotty ATL - Has some real low moments when his hooks and themes don't work out or tip the cornball scale, but the highs are what make this mixtape more than worth checking out especially if you like early KRIT and the like.
Chuck Inglish - Chuck really ain't all that on the mic, but the minimal bass-heavy beats on this are banging for sure, and it's littered with great features to conceal all of his shortcomings. It's a pretty good banger compilation, doesn't really work as an album though.
Daz - A bit uneven, but definitely worth checking out if you're a real Daz fan, I don't like most of the tracks, but there were a few that I picked out to thrown in a certain playlist. At times it's almost too bombastic and devoted to its west-coast roots in a way that I think detracts from what could have been a better album. The beats are actually pretty good, but some questionable features on it too.
Anything else I am missing that I shouldn't?
