this shit's a lot easier for those of us that weren't meek fans to begin with

that said, if he was your boy before, just ride it out. like, bronson took some big L's from the god Ghost but i can still enjoy his music.

You know it's not surprising but still kind of irks the shit out of me that Rhymefest and other ghost writers throughout history have largely went unnoticed and unappreciated by the masses. It's really fucked up.

didn't yall say that drake had credited dude? i thought that made it technically not ghostwriting, if the name's in the liner notes or whatever...did ye do this?

not that it's less disappointing, but i'm dusty enough to say frequent use of that shit (vs teh actually creative process of having peer input in the studio, etc) will keep you from legend status/top 10 from me most times

hi gaf-hop thanks for introducing me to rtj i just got back from seeing them again and they SLAY

god yes, finally saw them a few weeks back and shit was so awesome, will totally catch them again

Brehs I listened to Slime Season and it had me vibing

what do I do
What's there to be ashamed about? I don't think anybody here listens to him ironically like to, I don't know, Riff Raff or whomever. Thugga killed it this year with Barter 6, the leaks and Slime Season (which is 80% tracks from the leaks anyway).

SMH@Meek.

Meek's biggest L is Ross is fucking his money up, he has full knowledge of it and he is still riding with Ross.

What has he done exactly?

Meek seems like the type to get all his tour money in cash, blow it on dumb shit, and then realize he's broke when he finds on Rozay fucked him with the paperwork. Dude is so willfully stupid that this seems inevitable.

Looks like my prediction of him being broke on the corner in Philly freestying again is closer to reality. I don't expect these dudes to make investments n shit but jeez, just saving 10k here or there+not making purchases that drain money (ie multiple cars)=remaining well off.

This nicca better talk to Beanie Sigel or someone...

ngl, laughed.

Edit: Meek can surely just tour a whole bunch?

LOL. I can totally imagine that conversation.

You can only tour if there's enough people interested in you, which may not be his case years from now. If he is a fucking idiot that spends most of his money on drugs, cars, entourage and doesn't invest at all, he will be broke. He lives a lifestyle that can only be sustained if he remains relevant.

I thought musicians could basically do small venues (obviously for not much money) indefinitely? Not sure where I had that preconception from though :)

Pretty hard to imagine Nicki letting her man go broke! Funny that she could basically be the string by which his career remains hanging.

For the record, I never understood Meek's appeal at all. I made it like two tracks through his album. He sounds the same on every single one of his tracks, all HEREWEGORAPIDFIRESHITYEAH

Rappers don't tour like that. Pre-Nicki all Meek was doing was clubs. You can make good money off clubs but ultimately it suggests you can't do an actual tour. Lots of southern artists only do clubs, and then when the next hot thing arrives they aren't being invited to clubs anymore. At that point they realize they can't do a real tour either. See: 2chainz and most ATL artists.

Does Meek have a fan base? Probably more so than the average trap rapper but I'd imagine the Drake shit hurt him. The next Dreamchasers will be big online but after that...he's back on the path to irrelevance.

Cole could tour for years thanks to a loyal fan base and a catalog of music they want to hear. Same with Kendrick, Spitta, etc. I don't see Meek on that boat because his music doesn't mean anything to people. It's just some turnup shit they can get from anyone.

TPAB>GKMC.

Too hard to choose. Maybe prefer TPAB as a complete project by just a hair...but GKMC has more individual songs that I'd rank among my all-time favorites. But I don't really see the need to compare the two. One of the great things about TPAB is that he didn't try to make GKMC pt.2, instead we got something completely different.

hitting up this starlito

also GK and TP are such vastly different projects its hard to compare em in my mind, both are likely classics though

What happened fam? Tell me so Count and I can discuss it in DMs.

i want in on this too

It's crazy how much I still listen to the album. It never really fell out of my rotation.

seriously, was just bumping it last week

Happy birthday GKMC. Now let's all pretend TPAB never came out.

vinyl in stores at the end of the month, get your preorders in fam

The war against TPAB - one of the most positive albums this year - needs to stop

nah b, let the cheap seats throw rocks - one monkey don't stop the show

Gonna hold it down for TPAB, it's not really sitting in my reg rotation but I'll spin a few songs in every now and then.

Hey Des did you notice that new Johnny Polygon while I was gone?

As for TPAB and GKMC, both are amazing in their own lanes, and both were needed at the time. I personally prefer GKMC but that's because the hype was unimaginable leading up to its
leak
release.

Both are amazing records of course but I prefer TPAB's stand out moments. It floors me in a more consistent way than GKMC did. And I mean that in the sense of having tracks that just leave me in awe versus tracks that leave me thinking "oh shit that's dope." As an example, Sing About Me is the climax of GKMC to me. It's the track that leaves me in awe that separates itself from amazing tracks like Sherane or BDKMV. Whereas on TPAB I feel like These Walls, How Much A Dollar Cost, Momma, Blacker The Berry, and Mortal Man have a similar impact to me. Hell I might throw u on that list too, depending on my mood.

Sing About Me tho...whew. First time I heard it I was kind of bummed because I kept thinking "oh fuck, this would be so much better with Erykah Badu on the chorus." Yet despite that it's still amazing.

also from the interview

One young rapper who’s made a name for himself by spewing violent lyrics and promoting violence is Chief Keef, who, like Rhymefest, is a fellow Chicago native.

“He’s exploited,” Rhymefest says of Keef. “I think many rappers these days have afflictions, such as Asperger’s, bipolar disorder, or autism. They need advocates, but we turn it into entertainment. The media is turning autism into entertainment. When I look at Chief Keef, I clearly see someone who has autism. Look at the way his face is structured, or his insensitivity to violence. He needs an advocate. But someone put him out there and exploited that child.”
