The two have been thick as thieves ever since—so thick, that when Rhymefest stumbled upon the ARC Choir’s 1997 a capella gospel tune “Walk With Me,” with its haunting chorus of “Je-sus Walks,” instead of using it for his own demo, he forked it over to Kanye. The song became the rapper’s biggest hit off his debut album, The College Dropout, and went on to win the Grammy for Best Rap Song. “I stumbled upon the sample, and it was supposed to be on my demo,” recalls Rhymefest. “But Kanye had access. He was already signed to Def Jam and had an album slated, so this is the point where you could become selfish or practical. He rapped the song better than I probably would’ve at that time. He knew more about the industry, and he made that song a success. So he should get the credit for that. But he wouldn’t have all that without my words.”
“I’ve written for all of Kanye’s albums with the exception of 808s & Heartbreak,” he says, adding, “There are a lot of songs that my name isn’t even on.”

Does Kanye write any of his own music? I ask him.

“Anymore? Or ever?” he replies, with a grin.
“He’s exploited,” Rhymefest says of Keef. “I think many rappers these days have afflictions, such as Asperger’s, bipolar disorder, or autism. They need advocates, but we turn it into entertainment. The media is turning autism into entertainment. When I look at Chief Keef, I clearly see someone who has autism. Look at the way his face is structured, or his insensitivity to violence. He needs an advocate. But someone put him out there and exploited that child.”

fuckery

as foul as that autism accusation is he might be right. still lol holy shit rhymefest is being blunt with it.

edit; don't think slime season 2 will be as good as the first going by these tracks but i'm still liking them.

lol YG trying to step up to Birdman with the head tat game

Fam I don't think anybody questions his body of work, just that what he represented easily outshined his entire output; Tupac himself is more part of pop culture than his music. People running around with Tupac merchandise and haven't heard a single Tupac song yet, this is the norm these days.

right, i get that he's been Che'd for years now, but i'm not talking about Hot Topic patrons who have more access to dude's music than any era prior - i mean here in this thread, his name comes up it's just OVERRATED IMO and it seems most are replying more to what you're talkin on here than his music

I don't see it man. His popularity has only gotten bigger and the thing with his subjects is that they will always be relevant to a huge group of people. Drake is rapping about the same shit for like 8 years now, and look where he's now. I think Cole, Drake and Kendrick will stay relevant the most and will be the next 'big legends' the new cats will look up to

ehh you might be right, but i don't see it for Cole.
longevity alone doesn't get you in that category - like, people respect LL, Busta etc but their names don't show up on top 10/GOAT lists very often...there's other lanes, and i think Cole's in one of those.
like, you prolly have fond memories of Will Smith having tracks on & off for decades of your life, but you don't even think of dude's name when doing your personal list, i bet - Cole strikes me as something akin to that, at best. unless you're one of the fuckboys on twitter always telling people they don't appreciate the depth of his lyrics & so please ketchup i really have a hard time seeing dude as a legend.

I'd love to read the review that got Young Zee's Musical Meltdown shelved until this year. They gave it 2 mics.

goddamn..first ive heard of that, yeah id wanna see that too

Frauds VS Writers 2: Age Of New Ghosts

gonna keep seeing this, i imagine - busta said it'd get scary if this took off too, haha. so many cards being pulled

only 3 1/2 for Resurrection? damn

yeah, that was what really killed me on that panel, too - like RTD is an obvious 5 mic but shit that's harsh on poor Com

Even though we know this:
Drake gave Tesfaye a big boost when he featured the Weeknd on his double-platinum 2011 album, Take Care. But for Tesfaye, being under the wing of his fellow Torontonian was a mixed blessing: A handful of songs he'd written for House of Balloons ended up on Take Care. As Tesfaye said in a 2013 interview, "I was hungry....I was like, 'Dude, take anything.'" Today, he says he has nothing but gratitude for Drake, whom he calls "my closest friend in the industry at that time." Still, he says, "I gave up almost half of my album. It's hard. I will always be thankful — if it wasn't for the light he shined on me, who knows where I'd be. And everything happens for a reason." That said: "You never know what I would say if this success wasn't in front of me now."]

Maybe Kanye and Drake have a lot in common after all.

thought we knew about ryhmefest's past on some of ye's shit, but maybe not the extent of it? i forget
but i dont know that ye's copped to it; difference here is when drizzy was talking about hotline bling swaggerjacking, he made it sound like it's perfectly okay, so yeah none of this is surprising

I was merely referring to both of them using lesser known artists' talents or work to their own benefit.

According to Eminem, 3 1/2 was a good rating.

When the Unsigned Hype column in The Source was like our only source of light,
When the mics used to mean something, a four was like you were the shit,
Now it's like the least you get three and a half now just means you're a piece of shit,
Four and a half or five means you're Biggie, Jigga, Nas, or Benzino...

As of now Thugga could release fart noises and people would call it the second coming of Jesus. That track was trash, and I'm a big fan of him.
