With Black Thought it's like Talib for me. I just can't listen to this kind of rapper anymore :/

I get what you're saying but I wouldn't compare the 2 because Talib was always lowkey suspect but good beats and him still being somewhat fresh back then covered it up. Black Thought was nice then and he's still nice today. He can carry an album without ?uestfro's influence, I'm sure of it.

Just went through the gibbs, gonna listen again soon to get proper impressions but I really liked what I was hearing. I'll check out that redman too.

That pusha track sucks lol

Anybody got any good recommendations for some acoustic or singer songwriter stuff? I'm full up on rap for the moment. The chalice runneth over and I need some shit I can sing along too. Adele is too far out.

I like Chelsea Wolfe a good bit. Not sure if that is what you are looking for.

Purely singer songwriter

Joanna Newsom - Divers
Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell
Julia Holter - Have You In My Wilderness
Father John Misty - I Love You, Honeybear

These all offer different approaches to singer songwriter stuff. That said they are not necessarily "sing along" worth. Maybe John Misty. The top 3 are kind of emotional journeys (especially Sufjan).

When I think Singer Songwriter I don't really think Adele, I can recommend a shit load of folky stuff but not too much in the way of billboard pop

Giving her a shot now.

I know all these people except Misty. Going to check him out. Cheers.

I'm looking for as close to a girl with a guitar that I can get. Adele is just what's up next in the singer queue. Like, something like an acoustic Grimes or Regina Spektor or a woman version of Passenger.

Or a dude with a guitar that doesn't sound like he's going to cry over some girl borrowing his jeans.

Like Des said, I can't really think of any like Adele. Courtney Barnett's newest album "Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit" and Kurt Vile's "b'lieve i'm goin down" are both recent and really good, but both are more rock / folk.

The modern Indie Rock/Folk blueprint from the 90's, considered a classic. Discovered it a few months ago in a "What are your GOAT albums?" thread and it really scratched my Acoustic itch:

Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane over the Sea

https://play.spotify.com/album/2jyvuEp4HePt3KTlXSYvMV

Funny side note: they opened up for Thugga a while ago. Crazy combination, hah.

I don't know if you've just a great memory or something, but Anthony Hamilton is my shit. If I was in a Crossroads situation, I'd be tempted to trade it all to be able to sing like him.

I messed up mentioning Adele. I'm looking forward to her album a ton, but what I'm looking for isn't her. I just want something with a person on some acoustic stuff.

I was a wannabe alt goth dork in the 90s. NMH was definitely in my wheelhouse. Great album.

Prass' album was fire, she kilt it live when I saw her as well. Really not your speed though, kinda surprised you threw this on here.

Cosign Jessica Pratt and Natalie Prass. Can't believe I forgot them. That Tobias is good too.

Oh it's definitely my speed, I love it. The Abyss is way heavier than anything I think WW wants, but that and The Miraculous by Anna Von are probably neck and neck for my AOTY.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend Wolfe based on what you asked for. But if you're trying to steep yourself in some gothic beauty that's a great album.

Basketball Wives is the only skippable track so far. Took 11 songs and there's only 4 left :wow:

Basketball Wives is so wavy though. It's actually the track that's stuck in my head the most so far (along with Careless). Very MCH. The weakest tracks imo are the middle 3- Mexico, Packages, and 10 Times- but that's more for them aping other artists/regions sounds wholesale than being bad tracks.

Making my way through the recommendations. Wolfe is really good. Not a fan of the first track on the album, but when she gets to singing and not trying to rock out, I'm digging it so far. Pratt is so far pretty damn close to what I'm looking for.

The Abyss is her heaviest album, her past work is more acoustic and less rock driven.
