Rocky vs Q here has to be the one of the funniest things here lately. Been awhile since I've seen Gaf-hop seem equally split on both sides.

Rocky hasnt had a track on par with "There He Go" yet, but I enjoyed his tape more than I enjoyed Setbacks/HnC. I think Ab Soul has had the best album from Black Hippy with Control System. Though I can see Kendrick topping it.

Is he honestly that popular outside of the internet? Legit question, because I hear no buzz outside some hip hop heads. Anecdotal, but I never heard one track being played last year during any parties or while chillin getting blowed.
when the goldie video dropped he was all over my facebook personally and he was pretty popular. he has 250k likes to kendricks 257k
he also toured with Drake along with Kendrick... so...

Kendrick isnt really popular though, honestly. I was hoping a Dre cosign would boost him up more than it has. 250k Facebook likes is peanuts. Yela has double that and his album flopped hard.
The Drake tour could potentially help though.

I could see both of them becoming popular over time, but I have a hard time seeing them even doing 500k(I see them both doing about 200k which is good nowadays) on their debut unless their singles get a bigger push or they release more singles that are amazing.

All depends if he gets a single.
If not I can totally see him doing KRIT/Yela numbers.
I think he'll end up doing between 125-175k first week. But who knows.
i have no idea what the flavor of his album will be, he has been on some ballaballa recently and i think his music will be significantly more commercial in nature than it has been in the past.

I mean at the very least I'm sure Dre has a ton of Detox beats Kendrick could choose from.

Well, define flop. Imho reaching 100k is pretty impressive as a new artist these days. I expect him to sell about 70. And god I do hope Dre keeps his dirty old hands off KL.
But as always it depends if he has a hit single.
Meanwhile Dre expects all Aftermath artists to go platinum, he sees it as a boutique label which is why he never turned it into a factory like YMCMB. There's two ways this album goes and it's in a similar situation to RED if Kendrick gets the hype and massive single then Dre will be co-signing him everywhere and we will actually see serious involvement from him to ensure it's a classic. If this doesn't happen it will become an album with beats from inhouse TDE producers that arrives with little fanfare and Dre will only appear as a exec-producer.
Either way the album will probably be great. Personally I would love Kendrick to get that hype and Dre get involved with this album as it's been a long time since he has been able craft a West Coast classic.

Cole was probably the worst example you could've used. I don't see how you can say a platinum single would contribute to flopping.
I actually think Kendrick can do songs that chicks would dig. Section.80 had a bunch of slower cuts that could work. He's definitely the most capable of doing that out of TDE.
It'll be really interesting to see which direction his album goes in.

Ultimately his style is probably too left for mainstream, he's not that attractive, and is rather shy. Obviously Cole is about as shy, but Cole had a hit single. I don't see Kendrick making a Work Out even if he could.

I thought kendrick was the type not to sell out till i saw that ghost recon shit he was riding for. wasnt even mad, its honestly just funny. But on the real he is making more power moves than any other young cat respected by the underground in the game. Cosigns from west coast og's, features on YMCMB and MMG artists, im surprised he hasnt sidled his way onto something for GOOD music yet.

Personally, I think he's gonna go all out with his album. I think it will be amazing, but more than that Im worried if it doesnt do well he will definitely sell out. Dre or no Dre.
Really? Dre has a pretty strong track record of bringing through new artists, and he produces. I don't see why Dre would've signed Kendrick if he had no intention of working with him pretty closely and the same the other way round. Kendrick could've gone anywhere, so either Aftermath offered a fuck ton more money, or strong support from Dre.
It's 2012 Maccas, not 1998-2002. Look at the longevity of the average aftermath artist. Who says Kendrick got more from Dre? Whats to say he as a west coast kid didnt get put on with some smooth talk and hero worship and he signed up for the wrong reasons?
I woulda put Kendrick/Black Hippy on new Beats commercials or something.
As for Dre's successes.... all it takes is a quick look at the former artists on the label to know it doesn't always work out.
