Have you listened to Control System?

Album of the forever incoming

I'm lukewarm to Black Hippie in general. Just a bunch of B- rappers with brief bright spots mixed in with a bunch of coma inducing boredom. And Control System was the worst yet. First impressions were good but I don't listen to a single thing from it anymore. At least schoolboy and Jay Rock had a handful of tracks I still listened to weeks later.

But before the black hippie fangirls came in here throwing tampons at me, I'll say I do hope that as time goes on they improve as a whole. I can see lots of potential and want to support them regardless. And I hope we are wrong in our aftermath pessimism and they all meet with tons of success.

You are right, it will be much better.

Past experience has told me none of these recent dudes are making studio debuts as good as their mixtapes so far.

And Kendrick hasn't made a tape as good as Documentary yet. Yeah I said it. Section80 is cool and everything but it's not even the best Black Hippy release.

I'm really curious as to how Jay Rock will go. I enjoyed his first album, but it could definitely use some improvements, and now that he's on a major label it'll be interesting to see what he cooks up.

I actually became a fan of BH because of Jay Rock, still think he has the most potential commercially. I just wish he would go back to his old voice.

Yea, a lot of gaf-hoppers are hard on Jay Rock but I've always enjoyed his shit. He's just not the kind artist you evangelize for.

With the other TDE guys their albums grew on me, but Jay Rock's album was what it was. Pretty good on initial listen and stood about at that level on repeat listens. I think his toned down style and rasp voice would be a great compliment for the eventual TDE album.

Jay Rock's album was the only one that sounded like an actual west coast album. I ended up enjoying it far more than any of the other tde albums. In fact he's the one who should be best served by an aftermath connection.

Though I disagree with the first bit, I really don't approve of Dr. Dre x Kendrick either and feel Jay Rock is probably the only one who'd benefit too. No synergy in style at all.

It's 2012 Maccas, not 1998-2002. Look at the longevity of the average aftermath artist. Who says Kendrick got more from Dre? Whats to say he as a west coast kid didnt get put on with some smooth talk and hero worship and he signed up for the wrong reasons?

I woulda put Kendrick/Black Hippy on new Beats commercials or something.

As for Dre's successes.... all it takes is a quick look at the former artists on the label to know it doesn't always work out.

lol

The Recipe was fantastic. I would take more of that than boring ass Jay Rock any day.
The Recipe doesn't hold a candle to Section80 stuff from Kendrick. The TDE produceres jive so well with every member of Black Hippy. Jay Rock is the only one that'd benefit greatly from Dre. A good Dre beat can work wonders. It won't make Jay Rock a better rapper, but it would certainly make his stuff more tolerable.

I loved Section80, but The Recipe is a fantastic chill summer track. In a perfect world I would love a mix of TDE producers and Dre. Maybe another Cole track like Hiiipower.

clams casino is on some black water mystic cave zone shit, man

i like how this description speaks to me

PD is right, depending on Dre for help is about as effective as asking for the same from Jay

feels worse though, cause jay actually cole a track (not a great one, but still) - does dre still do that? i mean he's no doubt in the kitchen hard at work on some egg salad sandwiches detox shit

Dre never got an artist killed.

or locked up, far as i know.

Why should Clams being godlike even enter into the discussion? People that bring up beat selection as a deciding factor baffle me still. I don't want to get into it again, because no one really has even attempted to rebuke any of my claims, but when you compare the two without any intangibles or external factors Q eats Rocky's lunch completely. It's like comparing a Siberian husky to a wolf.

Are we still on this shit? Is it really so hard to believe some people find Asap more entertaining and therefor like him better as a rapper than Mr Human Nyquil Q? It doesn't trip me out that some people feel the opposite, people have different tastes.

Going OT for a sec:

Des! A while ago I was taking my first steps into Jazz and asked about it in here.
You recommended this particular set:

Well I bought it alongside the second volume and my casual interest has gradually turned into a full-blown obsession.

Thank you very much!

Going back OT:

"My hair wild, my fangs gold, my eyes red, that’s beast mode!"

Rocky is just too entertaining, hyped for his album

Someone shoulda warned Clayton to stay out of any thread talking about that F word. Didn't anyone tell him you are allowed to be an obnoxious raging fanboy asshole on gaf, but godforbid you admit to using "that" word. That makes you a terrible human being.

Yeah I was getting ready to reply to that thread, read the replies, and thought better of it. Some topics you can't really discuss openly on GAF without being bashed for your opinion.

Listening to Pretty Flacko makes me so depressed nowadays. I hope that ASAP and SGP can squash the beef

SGP didn't seem too pissed off about ASAP in the recent Pitchfork interview (http://pitchfork.com/features/interviews/8866-spaceghostpurrp/). From what I've seen it's just between Twelvy and SGP, but the rest of ASAP has to back Twelvy just because he's ASAP. I'm sure none of them are too enthusiastic about the beef lol. What has Twelvy even does for ASAP anyway?

Edit: In fact, I think SGP has actually done more for ASAP than Twelvy has. I don't see the beef lasting.

It is a fairly horrible word... I don't think it was the fact that he admitted he used it rather the attitude that went with it.. should have played the "where I am from it means bro" or "I never knew it was a slur" card!
lol yeah, I've learned GAF is definitely not a good place to discuss sensitive issues

discuss it yeah... approach it like a movie or music opinion banned...
