After all the praise Skelethon got I decided to revisit it and give it a deep re-listen. I must say I really liked the beats and the overall tone of the album, but Aesop's delivery definitely keeps me appreciating it. At times I had to question whether the words that were coming out were not in fact some sort of alien jibberish. It's not that I don't appreciate lavish allegories and metaphors woven into rap, but I just feel that his pace and delivery is not at all suited for speedy multi-syllabic rap. I can't decipher the language that's coming out of his month into words half the time. Many Aesop fans think people just don't appreciate the intellectual stimulus of his raps, but I think the biggest hump over trying to listen to Aesop is trying understand a guy who sounds like he's rapping with "a mouthful of donuts" -Esch
...I'm gonna keep the album though, maybe understanding him will become easier over time, but I can't help feeling like if it were Cage rapping this might be one of my favorite albums this year.
