I could understand calling him a joke rapper back when culdesac dropped, everything was punchline driven. But saying that after camp and royalty makes me think you're biased and/or haven't listened to his new music.

stop doing that..

The dude has fucking Tina Fey close out his mixtape. Come on dude. "Gully"? If Cam had Tina Fey close his tape and then he fucked her that would be one thing, but you know they went out after and shared some strip steak on her dime, and after calling his mom, walked her home.
Actually LISTEN to his music and you'll get why he wanted Tina on the tape. She has been very influential in his life. He also has Danny Brown, Chief Keef, RZA, Nipsey Hussle, Black Hippy, etc on Royalty but you decided to ignore that.

Juelz claims he has cleaned up and will stop bullshitting around this year but eh I guess we will see on the 15th. I remember being really excited when Just Blaze was going to produce his 3rd album
I believe him. He put out the first single. But I don't think he will make it through the end of this year successful.

I've never met a Childish Gambino stan, but being a stan of many myself, I'll just let you finish but you have to come to terms with your stannery and leave your delusions behind. Nothing wrong with being a stan, but being this stan is wrong.

Doing what, calling him out? Disagreeing? He can have a different opinion but still calling CG a joke rapper makes no sense to me if you've thoroughly listened to his new material. If you want a joke rapper look at Riff Raff, Lil Debbie, Getty, etc.

He was bolding the "makes me think" part.

Also, being a joke rapper isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Ha, that's fine with me. I love me some CG <3

Everyone is a stan for something.. You don't have to fight to the death, unless you are a U-God stan

Like yo look at the posts I make in this thread, 99% of them are blind stannery that I legit believe, but if I was wrong on any of these FACTUALLY, then I would admit it.

It's like, the opposite of Cam.

Gambino is a joke rapper, you're misunderstanding him to be a real rapper.

You not admitting this is factually WRONG. You are interpreting the music wrong, straight up.

On the other hand,

Cam is a gangsta rapper who white people have assumed is joking.

If I was a stan because I thought Cam's best lines were jokes, like "i get computers putin", and only liked him BECAUSE he was joking, I'd be wrong. That shit is FUNNY, but he was being so ridiculous braggadocious and the line is so ridiculous, it's funny. It's not about making a joke. I'm laughing with him, not at him.

Gambino's entire existence is a joke and an outlet to make mirrored rap like Donald Glover's idols. The entire thing is one big joke, and admitting the truths of your artist, makes you a good stan.

It's hilarious to me how many singles Juelz has put out, that with muscle, could've made an album successful. Homerun, Back to the Crib, Mixin Up The Medicine... all of them were like gold singles at the least and they just were put out to die. Ontop of that he had the smash feature of Beemer, Benz, or Bentley which he didn't capitalize on at all.

Carbon 45
This song could've been okay, his flow is good enough, but he doesn't have the same swag anymore... and the beat completely lacks that oopmh that it needs. It needs to knock, and though the synth is arranged well, the synth sound and drums sound like a fisherprice drum kit... This dude's got problems..

I always thought this was the direction Juelz should've gone in
Days of Our Lives
It feels like modern day Juelz. A clean Juelz, a good evolution of his sound. His lyrics, flow, the beat, it's all perfect and it actually sounds fresh enough that it could be a modest radio jam, especially if he got a good feature (one of the new school). The route he's taken of just being a trap rapper isn't really right, but he might make some good music so who knows.

That Soft joint doesnt bode well for Juelz return. It sounds too calculated. Dips are at their best being ridiculous and outlandish both lyrically and in beat selection.

I loved when they would take a classic song and just completely deface it. Like rap graffiti.
Juelz ended up being the most boring out of the Dipset camp. He pretty clearly just wants to make quick money and he's letting his reputation suffer. Even Jimmy knows better.

edit - probably no one else cares, but considering how French Montana blew up, can you guys only imagine how big Max B would've been? I bumped the dude from 06 to 10 literally every day. he had one of the best new sounds in hip hop that no one has ever gotten close to. he is basically the modern ODB. he's a one of a kind sound that can't be emulated without sounding horrible. everything came easy to him. one of the best (ignoring what he did), easily.

I could see Jones pulling a Juicy J and sliding in ASAP Mob (like Juice and Taylor Gang).

Lord knows they could use a crafty veteran willing to rap for the league minimum.

I can't believe you just compared Gambino to Riff Raff. No offense, but I think your assessment is incredibly off base. I'll just be the weirdo in Gaf-hop that loves CG.

Saw him perform in Nashville a few months before Camp was released. Dude puts on a hell of a show. Everyone is going to have his/her favorites.

Long.Live.A$AP is an early contender for biggest disappointment of 2013. Not feeling that track with Florence, either. :/

EDIT: Peterboy's stuff, siddx/Tguy's tracks, and Ace's latest mixes have set this year on the right track, so far.

I would literally faint.

But from what I've heard, Rocky himself isn't as big a Dipset stan as you would think. His management is though.

Jesus look how cool Jones and Juelz look in this video.

The problem is the two of them are trend hoppers to the max, and Juelz does it very poorly, Jimmy does it passingly but not well. They need their own style, even if it is just biting of Cam or someone new and progressive, not what's hot.

My expectations were high and it disappointed, but it grows. I'd give it a 8. 2012 was a good year for ASAP music so all in all he gave me a 10/10 year if I just look at all the good stuff.

Agreed, I saw him in Columbus when he rolled through OSU on the Camp tour. Dude put on the best show I've ever been to, I was in the front row and it was just an incredible experience.

i don't think Max would've ever been big because his sound was too raw. i was never a fan, but i'll admit he laid down a damn good blueprint that a lot of folks since have polished.

French was too raw too but when trap came along the market opened up. I think Max could've been something really fresh if the opportunity was given and stars aligned. He was a true artist, BY ACCIDENT, similar to a lot of OG rappers, but that is a crazy coincidence that doesn't come along often and is especially hard to notice with some much SHIT getting BIG opportunities EASILY.

I remember in 08/09 when Max was really getting hype, walking into the shitty Flight Club on Lafayette, smelling like weed with Max B playing every damn time. Fuck I was so optimistic back then. Now, Max B is locked up and that store is gone.

Coke Boys tapes give me minor dipset vibes. Lil more chilled out though. Same ignant excessive themes over high flair production.

No doubt but it's not the same nor as good.

French with Max was the real next Dipset. Mac & Cheese 1 and 2, Coke Wave 1 and 2, Wavie Crockett... that was the best French was. He is really bad in comparison now. Definitely sold out and for someone whose swagger and style was what made him good, that is a bigger deal than most.

Even if you don't like French, check out the above.

My dude.

I'd argue Coke Wave 2 with more polish and less mixtape antics could've been a 9/10 album tho. Shame everything went the way it did.

For whatever reason, this is the first song that comes to mind when I think Dipset. Kinda sums up the whole movement.

http://youtu.be/D_2yAow8Z0Q
this and santana's town each sum it up to me. ballin was an external part of the movement but i think of that too. im glad each dude got their big shine and memorable moments solo dolo.
