Jake-One is definitely super dope. He just doesn't have any breakout hits people can attach his name to.

Gotta agree with peter, dude is a wizard with the drums. They have a certain full-ness to them.

Jake One definitely. I think it's mainly because of the era of popular rap we're in right now. It's all about bass and kick right now and Jake-1 is definitely a snare and hat man all the way. He kinda helped to formulate that early 00s G-Unit sound.

Do I not get Riff Raff or what? I think Bird on a Wire has an awesome beat, and he's kind of funny, and has interesting videos... But I don't see much else in terms of anything?

Trying to help my cousin out with an assignment her professor gave her. She needs to find "meaningful/lyrical" rap songs. Any recommendations fellas?

Yeah I wasn't sure what context so I'm waiting for her text to clarify. I'm thinking she's meaning "Changes" type of meaningful.

But any recommendations won't hurt.

So far I've recommended Common, Blue Scholars, Black Star, Lupe and The Roots.

I'm interested in knowing what the actual assignment is. Or is it simply a scavenger hunt for 'meaningful' rap tracks?

If anything it's sounding like a scavenger hunt. But her professor said she would like her to link some tracks for discussion. Class is Poetry Workshop for her Masters program.
