I seem to recall Dream getting a lot of shine a few years ago. When it started coming out that he was writing and producing a bunch of hits for other people, his own music started getting quite a bit of attention. But then he just kind of faded out.

Every time I hear a Dream record I imagine him playing that shit for Jay and Beyonce during a private picnic. They gas him up, hyping the song...then they ask him to go get the Cirac from the Bently trunk. He struggles up a hill towards the parking lot, then Bey turns his music off, turns on The Weeknd, and has sex with Hov. By the time Dream comes back with the Cirac he's tired, and Bey has turned his music back on. They tell him they love his music and he gets a boner as he makes sandwiches for them.
Needless to say, I don't fuck with Dream.

When I listed the Wu albums that was just the order.
Wu Forever > Liquid Swords > OB4CL > Supreme Clientele > 36 Chambers > Return 36 > Tical > Bulletproof Wallets > The W
IMO. Wu forever as the top choice is weird but the beats are really polished and everyone was at their peak lyrically, even if there is a ton of BS on the album.
I'm also a Ghost Stan which is obvious by my album order.
Also the new Daft Punk Max B French song was AMAZINGGGGGGGG

As far as the dream goes, I agree with Recon; I like him, but it's not like he's some amazing musician or writer. I'd pick Miguel, Frank, or TheWeeknd over that ninja every day of the week.

I played it through last night while I was smoking. Hadn't listened in a while and god damn its still pretty great.

As for the Dream, the guy is just kinda... there. Never really impressed me or irritated me.
I actually got past his voice today. Listened to his whole tape while driving. Very nice style. Cocoa Butter Kisses is a great track.

Replace The Weeknd with Frank Ocean and that's pretty much my list.
Yeah, it is insanely catchy. He has a nice sing song style, but with content that aint embarrassing. And hell yeah @808's!

I just cant get past how...generic Dream is. He is solid, but doesnt have that "special" something. Like how Abel has date rapping girls and Frank has his homosexuality, Dream has nothing unique.

Speaking of Frank, I recently revisited Channel Orange, and I don't even know; it's grown on me with age, a lot. Sweet Life, Crack Rock, Bad Religion, Pink Matter (3 stacks solo aside) and more--so good. Frank's a horrible vocalist, but he's an incredible writer with an idea of varied song structure.
It's weird. I like the Weeknd's disco more, a lot more, if only because he makes to the point, catchy melodrama, but can easily say Frank is far, far more talented. Actually, I think we may be seeing Abel hit the tip of his one-note, with the complaints of him sounding samey already starting to come up. But frank, he'll keep right on.
Miguel's a better vocalist than all four, but the least talented when it comes to everything else, imo.

James Blake is a far better instrumentalist than any of these motherfuckers, but he's not as good a writer as Frank. Blake's shit tends to be as bad a mothafuckin JRPG when it comes to convolution, whereas Frank knows how to strike without doing that, or sounding like Babies First R&B track.

I find it odd how all these R&B singers each have this one huge flaw in which case they seem to make up for incredibly well for in other areas.

the-dream is by far the best producer out of all of them. hell i'd argue he's the best writer too (Frank's pen is a little too flighty sometimes for my liking). maybe not for his own stuff, but overall. his voice is his weak point.
I would say Dreams production, while good, is completely forgettable compared to The Weeknd, and others.

What? Did you all just start listening to The Dream? Surely you are joking. I love The Weeknd for the production but The-Dream is going on like 4 straight super hot albums along with the multitudes of #1 pop classics he wrote for other people. I'm not even sure how people are calling dude generic.
If that is real...then it just became my most anticipated album of the year.

Yeah, I share Recons exact opinion. It's actually my opinion on The Dream at large. I haven't heard every LP of his, but what I have heard has never made me go 'fuck, I gotta hear what else this dude has to offer' It's just there. IV Play is eliciting the same reaction out of me: played it a few times, like it, will probably never listen to again.
Yeah, I always thought The Dream was good, just nothing unique. Which doesnt matter since he cakes off of other artists like crazy.
A july release date would be amazing.
I'm honestly surprised that I've yet to hear The Weeknd over a Blake prod.
