I actually liked XXX on first listen. Also New Goodie Mob song w/Janelle Monae
Ditto, and Yeezus is still not quite XXX level for me, but it's a great album nonetheless.

I'm just happy Cee Lo is rapping again.
I like Kush Coma, but I was expecting something better. Especially with just about every song he dropped after XXX being top notch in comparison.

Do you guys actually read music reviews? Music (and pretty much every other form of media) is such a highly personal and subjective medium that I often question the merit of review outlets.

I don't read reviews of anything. I'll hit up think pieces or bs editorials every now and then though.
on the daily. reviews matter for a few reasons
1) people like to know what the temperature is
2) finding out about shit i never wouldve checked out on my own
3) and this one is purely from a business point, reviews can provide validation when the market doesn't.
this is just focused on music reviews, but you can pretty much apply these across the board.
w/ music reviews (at least the big publications. P4K i know for sure. thats why people fuck w/ them) while one person writes the review, the actual score/grade is decided upon by committee.
when it's just one person giving that score (PopMatters for example because I know one of their reviewers), i don't take it nearly as seriously.

Nah definitely don't read music reviews. Like you said music is so personal and subjective. I prefer to form my own opinions.
You can read reviews and keep your own opinion.

I don't care at all what friends or fans say though. Like how Danny Brown said he would rather impress critics than fans or whatever. I totally got what he meant.
Christgau and Ebert are/were the best.

I prefer not to read professional reviews regardless. I like seeing what my friends or GAF thinks, thats about it though.

I read them to see other people's interpretations and takes on things but I could care less about a score. Kinda like the Needledrop talk in the Kanye thread, I watch his reviews to see his take on stuff but the scoring system is pointless to me. A "10" to me may be a "1" to someone else depending on subject matter or what's going on in my life that I can relate to.
^yeah I flat out disagree w/ the way TheNeedleDrop guy judges music, but i enjoy seeing what he has to say.

30 is one of my favourite songs from him though, but otherwise most of his solo tracks fall below his features in my ranking of songs I like from him.
If you only like bound 2 you should go listen to LR or CD. This is not the album for you.
Bound 2 was a trap to catch all the people expecting old Kanye to come back.

I dunno it was so different then what I was listening to at the time I knew it was fucking dope on first listen but I knew it would take me a couple more listens for me to truly appreciate it. Fantanio's thought's on it in his review were on point for me at least.
