Guys i had the most fucking unbelievable burrito last night. fried marinated pork, spanish rice, beans, and a deviled egg blended up inside. So simple yet so brilliant. And it had queso on the side. If this joint wasnt ~30 minutes away i'd honestly go and get another.

Well, I know what I'm getting for lunch now.

Finally got around to listening to it all the way through. That new Ryan Hemsworth tape is fuego.

That Disclosure remix and the flip on kush coma is some of my favorite shit right now. same with the Bey remix, fuuuuuuuck.

Finally listening to this Loaded Lux tape. A lot of this is super tough, at least the songs that kick the tape off. Some serious inconsistencies in audio quality/mixing/etc. though. Half the features sound like they were recorded over the phone. K.I.L.L.A.S. has some spitting on it but the beat just sort of makes it sound a bit cheesy.

Outside of the singles which I all like (Bout My Money, Rite, You Can, Krazy Arthur), I fucks with The Town and Look At Me King. Lux' lyrical ability and his ability to flip flows frequently and successfully translates here in music form, it's just that some of the beats, songwriting and hooks are pretty generic, bad or in some cases bleh.

YOU SAY, NO TO, LEARNIN', SOMETHIN
LOADED, LUX, CAN'T

Overall mediocre and sort of derivative outside of those songs named above.

Someone make a list of Ls this year so I can choose between them. I would hate to forget about something for the most important award.

- Big Sean's shine being stolen on his own song
- UEONO
- MCHG (he sorta won at the end of the day w/Samsung tho)
- Mr. Cee's ongoing lies and troubles with the law
- Drake taking catching feelings to a whole another level from Kendrick
- Gucci going apeshit

I don't like Mchg but how was that an L? That shit ass song holy grail was huge and the album made him good money
Squandered potential and build up. And I mentioned, dude probably won at the end of the day, but the album itself is an L considering the build up. One of the biggest of Jay's career.

Remember you're talking to a Kanye stan. Having the biggest instaplat rap album of the summer and one of the biggest singles of the year by any artist is an L. A W is a year of exposing your half baked social commentary in interviews, failing to chart on radio, effectively blackballing yourself from an industry where you want to make waves in the future, and getting outsold and outcharted by Jermaine Cole.

damn fam took that personal as hell, I even said dude probably had the W but you had to slurp on the the numbers over quality argument too just to be at peace

i hope you recover soon

But if you winning, how do you take an L?
You can take an L and still be winning in the grand scheme of things. I'm sure his finances are just fine, doesn't mean his invulnerable to Ls especially in a medium where there are metrics other revenue, although when you are severely lacking in other areas you might be tempted to deemphasize those and emphasize whatever you are doing good at.

Pretty much all of those people that took Ls this year are winning in one dimension or another. But Ls are still held regardless.

Nothing personal, just laying the facts down on the table to give you some perspective.

This is flabby and sick. I don't even like Jay Z but you trying to drop knowledge on the ins and ous of Ls is weak.

I'm not dropping knowledge, that's what it is. If your favourite team fucks up hard a season, they hold that L, even though they might have the greatest track record there is. Microsoft squanders the X1/W8 marketing and product, they hold the L yet their revenues/profit are going up. How many more analogies do you want?

An L is usually specific thing, when you say someone is winning, it usually means more than one thing is going well. This doesn't have anything to do specifically with Jay Z either; read my post again. Most of those dudes are winning in one way or another.

EDIT: Especially in the context of the awards where we have to choose a specific L. Would be dumb for someone to just put "K.R.I.T.s year" or something.

Its been a deranged year for Kanye stans breh. This dudes interviews been having them saying some wild shit like he made polo shirts popular. Honestly it's pretty fascinating. If I was Ye I'd probably cash out of the game now before I say something about jews that will have the media crucify me(and they should). Dude really has the ability to start a cult if he wanted. Building pyramids outside of chicago like York.

The physical form of blasphemy
Gucci's twitter fuckery is up there. (missed that you typed it already)

edit:

Eh. I dunno. Drake didn't take an L nearly as large as anyone else, if that's what happened. That pales in comparison to Kanye's nonsense.

Dunno who my L will go to. I'm going to give out individual awards before doing my album list.

candidates

-Kanye: Sales disaster album, multiple Ls taken in interviews, probably nailed the coffin in his fashion career by burning bridges
-Drake: Shaken to his core by the audacity and masculinity of one Kendrick Duckworth Lamar
-Freddie Gibbs: Dropped from a major label, now propping up multiple wack homies in a poorly run indie label
-Meek Mills: Mixtape semi bombed, can't get a release date
-Big Sean: Major album release bombed, proving that he isn't even in the same building as Drake, Kendrick, Cole, and other young rappers who have lapped him.

What L did Drake take? lol.

Lil Wayne's Emmit Till line fuckup was last year, right? That's up there with UOENO.
Drake didnt really take one at all. He caught some feelings. Its understandable though, having someone who put you on telling you to step your shit up is pretty galling. But he still had a great year objectively speaking. I didnt care for NWTS but you'd have to be kidding yourself if you think him getting mad about a verse outweighs the career building he did this year. And honestly? First year of his where I actually fucked with some of his verses.

LotY is still easily MMG or Kanye for me though

My GAF-Hop Awards ballot is up.

Catching all the feelings after Control.
Also the Future thing, which was a byproduct of it all.

Gucci gets my vote. Nothing touches that level of emotional exposure and direct related losses in business and musical relationships. He will never get most of those back and his stock has fallen unbelievably far when his right hand man has rocketed past him.

Drakes situation has a lot of parallels with Kanye's fuckery, except Kanye still came away with an adidas deal and meetings with gatekeepers (which people thought wouldn't happen because he was lambasting them all, but somehow he did).

Now Drake is out there praising GKMC, on top of the damage that was already done with regards to him going on Hot97 and exposing himself for being a hypocrite. Dude is bending over, and it wouldn't be that big of a deal if he wasn't the biggest rap star outside of Jay Z right now and Kendrick wasn't cutting through as fast as he was.

EDIT: Wait, were the finding-old-tweets twitter blow up this year? I wish I could vote for all of those. People getting exposed for shitting on their signees or labelmates (Travi$ Scott and Wale come to mind) is just priceless even though there is no immediate loss like there was for Gucci.

This is true. When it comes down to it nobody really shat the bed like big Guwop. Making an ass of himself, losing contract, fighting random dudes at the mall, legal issues including some time I think. Dude is doneski as far as mainstream relevance goes, but I think he'll be able to eat fine enough off indie shit and tours, people still check for him on some level.

Kanye cant take L of the year. On aggregate, he has the AOTY taking into account all the major music lists. His tour made a toonn of money.

Q is L of the year.

why ya'll stay on pop-GAF criteria for W's and L's ill never know. shit isn't a stock market, and many people's top 10's include the plaqueless. if you feel Jay took an L for staying disappointing on some top-tier beats, or ye's experimentation this round fell flat, or Drizzy exposed the tiny corner he's painting himself into with NWTS (honestly that next album being an R&B one could be a much better fit), etc etc why would their net worth change that for you?

just like gaming side: dudes wanna talk sales-age when their favorite team/game/etc is high up, but quality when they're not. pick a lane, ain't nobody got time for false dichotomies.

Well put.

His tour probably hasn't made a "ton" of money. In fact he's probably lost some money.
Hmm.

Hmm.

Because this is rap music; its inherently competitive in several senses and sales/buzz/public perception have and always will matter, just like in real life. Lol @ popgaf criteria, you love popgaf so stop it. Secondly, sales give us a reflection of real life, albeit a different one than critical acclaim or fanbase devotion. They let us know how the people feel. I used to disregard all that and put 100% emphasis on subjective valuations of music (and other media). But you know what? Ive lost my taste for the tryhard, oft elitist opinions of art/entertainment intelligentsia. They are often skewed heavily in perception of a certain kind of worldview depending on the source. Rapping, for a great deal of artists discussed in here is a job or side job. And if you're doing really well at making a living with that job, its kind of a logical non-starter to argue that theyre losing because of your subjective artistic/entertainment criteria.

you're right, i love Pop-GAF, no doubt - but i reject their placing sales as the highest priority, and that bleeds over here too. of course it matters to the rappers on about namebrands & materialism but do I really care if they're broke or not, as long as they put out music i enjoy? if it's either checking the billboards or holding elitist opinions, i'd say we got another dichotomy going.

"how the people feel" is good but half of ya'll don't even like hearing the radio. when i sit down and consume any entertainment art - game, music, movie, book, etc - it's not a democratic action where i need to know how others feel about it, how much it cost to make, how much it made back, etc etc...it's cool if it's viable enough where the creator gets to continue at it, but my part in that is done when i purchase said piece.

i dig your point on my subjective criteria not logically flowing for you, but admittedly part of that is in response to an overvalue places on sales-age/billboard/etc. if something i really enjoy happens to be popular/does well and more people experience it, but on the other hand, i'm not gonna lose sleep if some niche shit i dig gets no love during a certain period of time while something else i don't care for does, you know?

TL;DR i don't mean to shit on ya'lls meta-analysis/reasons for discussing stuff here...it's an okay criteria i guess (if you're consistent with it), but it's not mine

Real rap though, Sega needs to give me that Sonic Transformed DLC on 360. Fuck outta here with that bullshit, Sega. At least Ryo, since I understand those PC exclusives sort-of make sense and the PC version needs exclusives too, but still.

Or just give me a refined next gen sequel.
or a good gaphics card
