Seems like the battle rap thing has fizzled on GAF-Hop since anyways, but I'm procrastinating and watching all these blogs with similar awards so I've made some picks anyways.
Best Battle Rapper: Charlie Clips. 10 battles this year, 9 decisive wins IMO. Arguably one of the best battle records ever.
Best Newcomer: Daylyt has gone from nobody to arguably the most talked about in the past year, and he's got the bars to back it up. I would say B Magic but dude was more of a 2012 graduate.
L of the Year:
Dizaster vs. Arcane. Watch Arcane get exposed for
buying bars and still end up winning the title shot. Lost a ton of respect for KotD for still giving this dude a chain and work after this shit and after basically admitting to such with that guilty ass look and interviews afterwards. This is why I can never 100% fuck with KotD, they really don't care for integrity or quality control, and the crowd is made up of people who don't really care for rap.
Best Battle:
Danny Myers vs. Rum Nitty. This is almost unfair since there were so many other good battles, but these two surprised me.
Best Round:
Hollow Da Don's 3rd round vs. Tsu Surf. Roasting session. Surf walked right into the trap. Maybe not the most lyrical, but this was the Hollow everyone was waiting to come back and definitely entertaining.
Best Punchline: If I had to choose one,
B Magic got it for me vs. DNA:
Westside of St. Louis, when the Loc is home,
Bitch, I be in the trap house like Home Alone
Best Performance:
Tay Roc's 2nd Round vs. Ill Will. It starts slow, but before long it speaks for itself; even Ill Will was like, let that boy cook. He reaches SSJ5 a few minutes in. #thatsLIGHT
Best Wordplay:
LottaZay's 3rd round vs Tone Montana. If you're well versed in R&B over time, prepare to pop a molly. Bonus Antonio Banderas reference in there too.
Biggest Bodybag:
Arsonal vs. Charron. Really exposes Arsonal's bullshit in just spitting nonsense and being underprepared for every battle he goes to, and Charron freestyle rebuttaled damn near all of your rounds in their entirety.
Best Proving Grounds/Newcomers Battle:
Ill Will vs. Johnie Alcatraz. Ill Will's energy and career ending lines about this dudes tongue ring are too much.
Funniest Battle:
Math Hoffa vs. Dose Rematch. Math Hoffa had me dying, from the first line alone. It's a genuinely good battle too. For people who haven't seen (which I suggest watching first, it's very, very short)
the original, which has the reason why this rematch happened (which you better believe was referenced):
