Troy Ave chucking stones @ Kanye and Chance

damn this dude talks so much shit lol; trying that 50 lane?

-kendrick lamar is a weirdo
-chance the rapper is a drug addict
-that sh!t corny
Troy Ave has been doing this for a while now, was saying the same stuff on Hot97 and Breakfast Club a few months ago. Coming dressed like a member of Pro Era and then saying that shit.

"Why do you think they're weirdos"
"They just are y'namsayin"

It's not really 50-like, it's just him trying to build a little buzz without really saying anything or making it his MO.

it had the desired effect, I'm now aware of Troy Ave.

His mustache looks like the main thrusters fell off the back and can't take off anymore.

Troy Ave's album has some great production, and dope songs. You can tell he's trying his hardest to get signed to MMG lol. Ross is dumb but I don't see him signing another Meek type.

I fux with his arrogance. Dude doesn't give a shit about burning bridges lmao

The sideburns are a greater crime. Not connected to his beard or his hair, like wut? He's got like an inverse fade going on.

lmao @ Troy Ave trying to run his mouth into being relevant. make better music.
I've only liked one song from him, was one of the first songs he did with Pusha. Diminishing returns thereafter.

Added Muddy and Tokubest-u too, just letting my battery drain looking at the friends screen now waiting for mai waifu Toku to add me back.

EDIT: My soul is at peace.

Seems like the battle rap thing has fizzled on GAF-Hop since anyways, but I'm procrastinating and watching all these blogs with similar awards so I've made some picks anyways.

Best Battle Rapper: Charlie Clips. 10 battles this year, 9 decisive wins IMO. Arguably one of the best battle records ever.

Best Newcomer: Daylyt has gone from nobody to arguably the most talked about in the past year, and he's got the bars to back it up. I would say B Magic but dude was more of a 2012 graduate.

L of the Year: Dizaster vs. Arcane. Watch Arcane get exposed for buying bars and still end up winning the title shot. Lost a ton of respect for KotD for still giving this dude a chain and work after this shit and after basically admitting to such with that guilty ass look and interviews afterwards. This is why I can never 100% fuck with KotD, they really don't care for integrity or quality control, and the crowd is made up of people who don't really care for rap.

Best Battle: Danny Myers vs. Rum Nitty. This is almost unfair since there were so many other good battles, but these two surprised me.

Best Round: Hollow Da Don's 3rd round vs. Tsu Surf. Roasting session. Surf walked right into the trap. Maybe not the most lyrical, but this was the Hollow everyone was waiting to come back and definitely entertaining.

Best Punchline: If I had to choose one, B Magic got it for me vs. DNA:
Westside of St. Louis, when the Loc is home,
Bitch, I be in the trap house like Home Alone

Best Performance: Tay Roc's 2nd Round vs. Ill Will. It starts slow, but before long it speaks for itself; even Ill Will was like, let that boy cook. He reaches SSJ5 a few minutes in. #thatsLIGHT

Best Wordplay: LottaZay's 3rd round vs Tone Montana. If you're well versed in R&B over time, prepare to pop a molly. Bonus Antonio Banderas reference in there too.

Biggest Bodybag: Arsonal vs. Charron. Really exposes Arsonal's bullshit in just spitting nonsense and being underprepared for every battle he goes to, and Charron freestyle rebuttaled damn near all of your rounds in their entirety.

Best Proving Grounds/Newcomers Battle: Ill Will vs. Johnie Alcatraz. Ill Will's energy and career ending lines about this dudes tongue ring are too much.

Funniest Battle: Math Hoffa vs. Dose Rematch. Math Hoffa had me dying, from the first line alone. It's a genuinely good battle too. For people who haven't seen (which I suggest watching first, it's very, very short) the original, which has the reason why this rematch happened (which you better believe was referenced):

I mean.. Arcane definitely catches an L for buying bars.. but acting sour at KOTD for judges being judges? Not a single competition with judges is free of trash decisions.

Not just at the judges, but the organization. Arcane is on the upcoming Blackout 4 card. What the fuck? They'll give any of these dudes work because they look out for their boys.

I realize also they couldn't make a decision right away but c'mon. He should've been stripped of the chain. It should default to Dizaster, even if he had a poor showing. Or another suggestion I've seen is that it should just be a toss up with 2 new competitors.

Good list. As far as that Arcane / Diz battle. They honestly both took major L's from that one. Diz is garbage really. Used to be good but let the ego get to him and doesn't even try anymore. Throwing shit into the crowd and crying like a little baby constantly.

It's a bit extreme to say you can't take any KOTD battle serious or can't fuck with them anymore over that. Theres not much they could have done there. Nobody honestly gives a shit about the title anyway. The crowds have fucking sucked lately. Drunk little girls and boys only paying to try and get a chance to see Drake in person. I'll agree with that. Quality control can be a little iffy but they still set up the battles people want to see. The Blackout card is stacked beyond belief.

It's not just looking out for their boys. It's filling out cards with the best talent they can afford and it's definitely cheaper to book Canadian talent. Most of these dudes, especially the Smack crowd, want to have flights and hotels comp'd to come out and battle. And for an organization that got burnt as badly as they did with Canibus.. I can't blame em. Give Diz the chain after the fact? Gotta fly his ass out even more often than they already do. The toss up idea is good from a fan perspective but it would essentially be shitting on Diz for exposing Arcane. Rock and a hard place really.

Diz has always been streaky at best. His style is just rap, spitting whatever and hope the good bars stick in the judges memory. There's a reason why he'd lose against more consistent guys in local LA battles but started winning once the Youtube stuff started spreading. The rest of the country/world didn't catch on as quickly.

I can't even speak to the crowds lately. I haven't been in the "watch every battle that comes out" mode in a long time.

It's not that I don't fuck with KotD period (I'm from Toronto so I can't; I want to see these dudes grow), but it's really one of the many things that nags me about them. The crowd goes crazy over the most basic bars and rappers, I feel they always have.

They set up a ton of dumb match ups, for every good or decent battle there's like 5 why.jpg battles. Even the leaked Blackout 4 card has some of the strangest match ups despite the crazy star power on there like you mentioned. I realize that they probably have the biggest global talent pool to pull from, especially after absorbing GrindTime, but they really need either their own version of the PGs (not like the tournaments they used to do) or they need some serious quality control.

They need to cut cards down from the 15+ battles per card to less. There's no reason for having that many and you're just ASKING for the crowd to be reckless. Smack is way more efficient in terms of how much he charges people, how many battles are on a card and what it pays out. I feel like if these dudes want to grow, they can't just keep putting whatever bullshit out there. Hold more events, pay more, charge more. People are not sifting through multiple 30+ minute battles to get to the what's the best, that's why Smack built his brand. If a battle is that bad, Smack won't put it out. Deal with it and do better. Rule with an iron fist and people will actually be motivated to do good and talent will develop. I doubt they're holding off of giving the chain to Diz, it's more of a Canada-bias from judges, etc.

As for Dizaster.. I respect him a lot more than I like him. He's nowhere near my favourite, but I'll watch every battle of his because dude has classics and he has potential, which is more than I can say for some of these run of the mill guys who get rebooked. IMO in terms of raw talent he's still one of the best out he just sort of got lazy and lost motivation knowing he's one of the best to do it.

Kotd is way too forgiving of bums and cornballs. Much better production values though, URL is mad unprofessional when it comes down to it.

Isn't there only 2 match ups from Blackout released? the rest are basically find out when the event is live?

Theres def a lot of wtf battle match ups, but when you're pulling people that have been in grindtime for years.. theres not much you can do when just about every single battle you could think of has already been done before.

At the end of the day I honestly don't give a shit what league is best, or any of that. Its all about the battles and having a decent crowd/atmosphere. Oh and, as long as it doesn't have Don Demarco adding another 15min to the video with his bullshit.

The card leaked a while ago on OTBVA.com, and as they've been announcing battlers one by one, it's been pretty much on the dot as far as who's at the event so the match ups are believable.

It's not really about what league is best, it's just who tries to keep the culture alive and move it somewhere, and ultimately, give us the good battles at the end of the day.

KotD is doing a fantastic job of how they've dealt with the West Coast. Now they might bring Grizzlemania back too, which is all sorts of awesome. They're doing what they can to support those scenes that may have otherwised flatlined and throwing battle rappers as much bread as they can, but they're expanding faster than they're developing IMO. And I know Organik isn't really a competitive dude or anything when it comes to other leagues, but if we've got people buying bars and getting back on cards, what does that say for how you handle your organization? There needs to be a line.

I'm just saying there's a reason why Smack is where he is now and one of the reasons they put GrindTime under. They have a cutthroat system. Yeah Smack looks out for some of his closest boys (mostly St. Louis rappers) too, but those people getting second and third shots proved something before all that. Overall they foster competition. O-Red has been murdering people all year? Give him a spot at Summer Madness. People running scared of Swave? Make him main event when you get a challenger. Your PG battle isn't good enough? Enjoy footage sitting in the vault, try again. Miles loses as bad as he did to Lux? We're not booking you again. It's not so much as there is an explicit ranking system, but they won't feed someone at the bottom of their career to a legend.

The main thing that fucks up Smack battles is that people run from each other hard; and with this clearly not being a problem at KotD because they book whoever vs. whoever, I think they have even greater capacity to grow and learn from successful models. I think they should keep some form of judging, it's what separates them from the rest, but they should make some sort of system so we don't have J-Pro vs. JC, The Saurus vs. The Deadman, etc.

EDIT: And Math Hoffa and Smack go WAY back. Math Hoffa was the first URL battle and they're boys, yet Hoffa got rightfully banned for his nonsense, and also wasn't getting booked after his poor showing vs. Calicoe.

This shit is NFL status apparently
Nah, but it will never get there or gain traction if nothing is done about these things. And right now is the ample time for these leagues to make power moves now that BET is investing and mainstream attention is at its highest.

The analogy here is what if tomorrow UFC or any other sport just decides hey fuck competition. There are no infractions for PEDs, the match ups consist of scrawny high school kids alongside built athletes, and people are showing up to bouts in their PJs because who gives a fuck I still get paid.

Not a KotD-specific issue, Smack has had a particularly bad year (worse than any other league), but Smack at least put his foot down about it and gave top tiers the finger while pushing for more artist development. If you watch battles you can usually see, especially this past year, Smack is not impressed by your tired gun bars.
