That G-Unit song is fucking shocking. How 50 talk shit about all these dudes and they reunite? Even Yayo?

In a few weeks 50 will be using this just to reaffirm his earlier points that none of these artists can move without him.

Fuck yeezus.

Who the fuck names themselves Kidd Kidd and expects to be anything but a back up weed carrier?

And I'm late on this but Maino isn't a gatekeeper, he's just an angry dude who likes to get in fights with people like young berg. And since most rappers are homemade potpourri levels of soft behind all the bullshit bragging, they keep getting embarrassed by Maino's loud mouth and fists. You are delusional if you think someone like 50 or Jay is afraid of someone like Maino or Slowbuck. You can make all the lil ceases in the world afraid of you by acting like a 12 year old who never learned how to interact with other people, but thats not going to intimidate a dude who could buy and sell your entire group of family and friends 10 times over. No amount of super thug delusions can match up to a man with enough money to control and destroy your entire life if he wanted to.

Chuck D came to my middle school in 7th grade to give a talk about having/achieving goals, and signed autographs for the entire school. forever gets respect for that from me.

But i kinda tune out anytime someone complains about radio, radio hasnt changed in 25 years. it will always be pop music first.

Well he runs his own radio station online, so it's not like he's sitting around being bitter that he's not getting spins.

I really like Chuck D, he's one of the few folks who can criticize and not sound upset he's not getting more love.

Chuck D has always criticized radio, he's not just some old head mad his shitty new music isn't being played today. My problem with this is the underlining conspiracy that party music is played solely because someone (the white man) wants blacks to kill each other. One of the general themes of nearly every conspiracy (especially among black people) is a fundamental ignorance of basic business and economic principles. People have preferred trivial party music over music with a message. You can go back to the 1950s and see that. It has nothing to do with music industry types forcing things, it has everything to do with listeners demanding a certain sound.

That's not to say there is no meddling. You can't tell me Jhene Aiko's recent surge in radioplay is due to her getting spins due to the label. That's not to say people dislike her music, it's that she didn't get to 500 spins by herself. There's a reason YM dominates radio and it's not just because Drake and Wayne are popular. They're guaranteed 500+ spins on every song out the gate, and from there the song pretty much has to be a dud NOT to race up the charts.

Gaf hop if you ever get a chance to visit Amsterdam you should go. The city is incredible. Only an hour flight from Dublin too.

The weed is so much better and cheaper, sitting outside in the sun just smoking away. Walking around with a spliff wherever. God damn.

Alcohol and food is a lil expensive but affordable all the same.

Ebro deaded your second argument TWICE on the Combat Jack Show.

Those records are played because they are popular thanks to research. There was an investigation into payola and Hot 97 was found innocent. They spin the YMCMB records because people listen. If people tuned into that 90's true school music during the day then it would get played.

Ebro's system works for that market because of the scrutiny. Someone might ask let the people decide but how do we measure that? Can any program director or someone in the position of power take that risk without an investigation of some kind? Keep in mind if one person screws up and takes money in any fashion then the PD loses his or her job. Keep in mind everyone screams payola so the only tangible counter is to make sure data backs up spins.

If someone hates the fact that a certain artist is getting played then avoid tuning into the station at that time, avoid dude's shows, and organize a campaign to disparage him or her online. Give him the Trinidad James treatment.

I'm not into shitting on artists on the come up. Let's not act like Jhene came out of nowhere as she's been grinding for a minute. She was doing videos with Ab Soul shot in a hood somewhere.

And yet months later Talib Kweli straight up told Ebro he paid to get Hot 97 airplay for his recent single and Ebro didn't have shit to say.

Payola has always existed in radio, the only thing that has changed is how it's done. If an artist can get 250-300 radio spins on their own, many labels will get them to 500 and see where it goes. Interscope does this all the time, most recently with Schoolboy Q. Man Of The Year was receiving minor spins and then suddenly appeared in the 60s on the Hot 100. The song didn't go farther because the market didn't respond.

Aiko's "grind" doesn't explain her rise. She switched labels and suddenly got hot. I'm not saying she wouldn't gain success without a label, I'm saying she got her 250-300 spins, got a stimulus package from the label in order to get to 500 spins...and the market responded. People want to hear the song now, but that's because they were given a taste thanks to the label. There are a lot of songs that would be hits if they could get to 500 spins, but they aren't because a label isn't getting them in the door.

It's basically like getting a good job in an insular field without networking. You can do it, but good fucking luck.

I feel like Kendrick's been out of the limelight since Control. What the hell has he been up to? Working on his album probably, but damn throw us a track every once in a while. This is the longest spurt of time I haven't heard anything from him since he came onto the scene.
