Fair enough. I think we might have opposing tastes. Especially looking at that liked and disappointed list. I didn't like that Jon Connor tape at all.

Sometimes we're on the same page, but I'm sort of mood swingy with what I like. Early this year, I wanted that gold-plated fantasy rap, now I'm looking for some rappity rap. Ross put out a good stupid record, Connor is the definition of rappity rap.

I'm all for suggestions. Germany is not exactly the hotbed of rap music that the LA area was.

I went to see the LOX perform last week.

They came out at a reasonable time (10 pm) and performed for about an hour. Styles P lit one up during "Good Times". My ears were ringing afterwards.

I wasn't disappointed.

Not gonna do a list before the end of the year. That being said, Cilvia is the only album I continue going back to consistently; despite that it wouldn't be my AOTY if I made a list today, but it's top 3.

Black Milk and RTJ are about to drop top 5 quality projects.

The Documentary birthed GKMC in the same way you allege The Love Below birthed 808s.

I've said it a hundred times, you can trace shit as far back as you want, but it takes a certain project or album to make the shift. Next you're gonna say Run DMC influenced [broken telephone here] who influenced Lil Dicky. It doesn't matter, because it doesn't make a difference until someone makes that cultural shift.

Not only that, but the influence 808s had on Drake far outshines the West's resurgence (which also has slumped similar to when Game broke out, but with more artists that are maintaining), and is more widespread. Shit, even Kendrick cites 808s as an influence.

The Documentary revived the west coast temporarily, sure. It remains to be seen whether GKMC has a similar short term impact or whether the west coast is here to stay beyond the typical "one guy who's hot" set up.

The Love Below did everything Kanye stans claim 808s did, on a far bigger scale. Whereas The Documentary is a standard post 90s west coast album (it might as well be The Chronic 2001, Pt II), The Love Below was quite a transformative album. It's like a Prince rap album. Which is why I'm baffled when people try to act like Kanye birthed a "style" that was quite dominant on a global scale five years earlier. The very same artists who cite 808s always cite Andre 3000 as an influence. Drake, Cole, Kendrick, KRIT, etc etc etc.

Hell Can Wait EP is pretty good. I like the dark tone of the beats and subject matter. The last track is the only one where the mix kinda kills it for me. Feelin a light to decent 8 on this one /fantano

Logic is an amazing rapper. Haven't heard the album but from what others have said, he's in that Cole mode of constantly talking about how slept on and overlooked he is. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Can you guys fathom how many bad 00s rappers we listened to that spent time complaining about the merit of the game and how slept on they are?

I have no idea who Logic is. I see him tossed around Reddit and other forums, but when did he start getting such a blog buzz? Have I been under a rock or something?

My friends were asking me if i was excited for Logic's album. They played me some of his shit and it was corny as all hell.

If my friends know about them then his name is really out there cause they usually only like ignorant shit.

People knew about logic when I was in college. Fratboys, nerds etc. He's out here, even though like PD said he's the definition of boilerplate.

I'm going to give this Logic a spin, but after seeing him on the Cypher last week, I don't exactly have high hopes.

someone posted a Logic song a few OT's ago and I remember thinking it was dope. then again I only listened to it that once.

I think this is a new gafhop record for having a number of successive posts containing the word Logic

Just listened to the Logic's self-titled track. It's alright, I guess. He has a nice flow, and the beat was nice. I don't really know anything about the content or his character to judge if he's just another Gambino that likes to rap fast without saying anything. At least he didn't have the cringeworthy punchlines.

He seems very talented in his freestyles but he keeps feeling the need to mention he's half black, he doesn't have street cred but recognize etc.

I'll check out a track from the album but ehhh

At least they do it over good production these days. Still don't understand how an entire generation of underground producers in the aughts, who were raised on Dilla and Pete Rock, released so much shit with wack drums.

Huh, focusing on just the rappers, the Big Boi and 3000 comparisons are on point, almost to a point of being creepy. But overall, I get more Pharcyde vibes. Still dope.

Yeah that's actually more spot on.

EDIT; OH MY GOD THAT KNICKS REMIX, FIRE!

Noped right out of listening. I like giving people a chance, but nah. Nobody has time for that shit.

Rapping about haters isn't as bad. At least you can exude some type of arrogance and character with that type of subject. Being overlooked though? Boo-hoo, cry me a river. Unless there's some kind of concerted movement against you, you only have yourself and your material to blame.

edit: ehhh, I guess the same can be said about being overlooked. Mt. Olympus is a good example. It's just less common.
