Isn't Danny brown coming with an album this year? Unless Gibbs and Madlib release another tape soon that might be my most anticipated rap album.

Aside from SremmLife2.

Since we're halfway through the year (and don't think we've done this yet) what's your guys hip-hop top 10 looking like so far?
Q - Blank Face
Thugger - Slime Season 3
Kweku Collins - Nat Love
Yachty - Lil Boat
Payroll Giovanni - Big Bossin vol. 1
Bones - Useless
Key! - Before I Scream
Esto - Crudo EP

All I can think of right now. Would have never guessed a few months ago that I'd have Q on my list. Was never a big fan, but Blank Face is hitting just right.

Also bummed I can't put Drizzy at the top of this list. Stopped listening to Views after like 4 days and haven't had the urge to revisit it outside of a few tracks.

In no particular order:

Future - Evol
Kendrick Lamar - untitled unmastered
Elucid - Save Yourself
$ha Hef - Krime Pay$
Schoolboy Q - Blank Face
DJ Esco - E.T.
Kanye West - The Life of Pablo
Chance - Coloring Book
YG - Still Brazy

Also, not sure if these count as strictly hip-hop but whatever:

Anderson Paak - Malibu
Death Grips - Bottomless Pit

YG's album isn't bad but Blankface really puts its flaws in perspective. It's a very one note album music wise. Yes YG addresses a lot of issues from various perspectives which is good, but the production feels like a retread. There are a few amazing beats on the album, then you have some that are just whatever. There's also little funk or bounce to the album outside of Twist My Fingaz. The bass is synthy overall, making the other throwback sounds seem a little weird when mixed together. Overall this gives the album a very one-note sound gets old after awhile.

Whereas Blankface manages to experiment with a lot of different sounds successfully. You have some bounce on tracks like Neva Change, some Outkast type rock on the intro track, funk on the title track, some bangers (By Any Means, Dope Dealer), etc. Light jazz fingerprints throughout the album too. Not to mention Black Thoughts, one of my favorite tracks of the year. What a haunting, oddly cathartic track.

Blankface is what a summer album should be. There's shit for riding, shit when you're depressed, bangers for the car, and some lady tracks. I never liked Studio, it sounded like some shit a chick might listen to while masturbating. But I can fuck to Overtime.

Listened to quite a bit this year and there's quite a lot that I liked but wouldn't put nowhere near my AOTY material like TLOP, Imperial or Slime Season 3, or any of the Fewch tapes to name a few examples). There's 4 projects I enjoyed more than most other releases this year tho:

untitled unmastered - Kendrick Lamar
Blank Face LP - Schoolboy Q
Lil Uzi Vert vs. The World - Lil Uzi Vert
Skoobzilla - Trouble

Azizi Gibson - A New Life
Lushlife & CSLSX - Ritualize
BONES - Useless
Curren$y - Bourbon Streets Secrets and/or The Legend of Harvard Blue
ScHoolboy Q - Blank Face LP
Kweku Collins - Nat Love
Young Thug - Slime Season 3
Payroll Giovanni - Big Bossin' Vol. 1
French Montana - Wave Gods
Post Malone - August 26th
Aesop Rock - The Impossible Kid
Kendrick Lamar - Untitled Unmastered EP

A little over 10 but I'm good with this for now. Still have a handful of projects I haven't really dug into yet.

Kanye West - Life Of Pablo OG version
Kanye West - Life Of Pablo Revised version
Young Thug - SS3
Ramriddlz - Venis
Payroll Giovanni - Big Bossin' Vol. 1
Schoolboy Q - Blankface LP
Retch - Lean & Neck
Lil Uzi Vert - Lil Uzi Vs. The World
Bones - Useless
French Montana - Wave Gods

Only the top 4 are in order.

this stretch & bobbito documentary was dope, wish i'dve heard more of their show in the day, damn

as much as we stan Future and Desiigner, you know damn sure we dont care about lyrics

the souljah anthem right here

E-40's delivery, lyrics and flow are all SHIT

also see above

Rap has been boring this year

yeah this is one of those years i'm diving into other genres more, it happens

I guess you haven't heard Life Of Pablo.

Life of Pablo is like that time i saw a trailer for spider-man in 2012 and was like oh when's that coming out

then i realized shit i saw it like a week or two before and totally forgot

that's what that album is...i don't hate it, it just doesn't resonate on any level
