GAF, how much do you make?

Always love how these threads averages are well above the national average. Average over 6 feet tall, top percentile dick sizes, dudes making 80k in here "failing at life"

NeoGAF: the exceptional people.

When given a chance to answer a question publicly those with something to boast about are more likely to answer.

Not that some aren't exaggerating; but it's rather obvious why numbers end up towards the high end on a public forum.

Because the short guy with the micropenis making minimum wage is just less likely to answer.

27, approx 40-43k depending on OT. Security

Seeing all these 50K plus salaries making me feel inadiquate. Been looking into IT to find something more fulfilling that pays better.

Don't feel bad, just seek to improve yourself further! There is nothing stopping you from getting into the IT field and enjoying your work.

No thanks. I'll take my poverty lol

Really? Over $500k? Holy shit. Well good for you! I think doctors deserve every penny they earn. How long does it take to become an attending surgeon after you finish your fellowship (which I assume you started after your residency)?

What are your weekly hours like?
500k is actually on the low end. My bosses are hitting 700-900k once they reach their peaks. 4 years of med school + 6 years of residency (neurosurgery) + 1 year of fellowhip, so 11 years in my case. Might still had an extra year of fellowship, so up to 12. Residency hours were around 90 h per week, on average. Fellowship was significantly better, closer to 60-70 hours per week. Hoping for 50-60h as an attending.

80k, but my wife stays at home with the kids so that amount is stretched pretty far.

I don't get this - do you have 10 kids and a shit load of debt?
That's £52,000 in my money. Not rich, but comfortable even with kids.

I thought you paid less tax and everything was cheaper I the US? What do you people do with your money?

IT / Security for the FRB System. I live in the Midwest but work at all the Feds.

I just turned 38.

I make in the six figures, think US House or Senate pay scale. I do have to travel for work often. The money is good but the benefits are even better.
Just curious how you got in with them. Looking to go that route after school

No. Cost of living doesn't vary that wildly. You're still rich if you live in NYC and make 6 figures.

Not, really, no. Maybe not poor, but if you're supporting another person or two and paying $2k + rent/mortgage, then it's easy to see a situation where you wouldn't have much left over each month in the low $100s. Make that $200k + and I can see what you're saying, but "rich" is a bit of a stretch for lower-end six figure salaries.

I can't imagine having any amount of kids in NYC while making only $80,000.

You're not poor if you're making $100,000 here but I'd say you're pretty far from rich.

I should have specified Canada, so that's closer to £40,000 before tax.

GAF is a bunch of liars.

nah man

I posted in the 6 feet + tall thread because I am 6'1
I posted in the top procentile dick thread because my dick is, according to the chart, bigger than average
What I did not post is in this thread. My 38k euro a year doesn't win me any prize here

Self employed business involved in property, Scotland, £90k ($135k) and 35. I'm in the process of doing a bit of retraining so I hope to put another wedge onto that via financial services but I've got to get the studying cap on again before I can do that.

Median household income is about $50k in NYC. If you make twice that as an individual, you are rich.

$60,000 - 40yrs old.

For a good 15 year stretch I made < $30k a year and finally things have come through for me in the last 3 years or so.

I don't think most people who make $100k a year think they are rich.

You are not struggling or really wanting for anything but you surely are not rich or balling at that salary either.

100k a year, In US, with those taxes. It puts them in 1% in the western world

Some people make an enormous amount of money in here.

I can't help but feel like it is too much, but that comes from my background and current situation living on relatively small amounts of money.

How could you possibly say someone else earns too much based on what people have posted here?

24 years old. Selling on Ebay for a living. Pulling in just barely enough to cover rent, bills, and eat.

Let's just say 12k (and that's being generous)... help me GAF. =/

That may be true, but I am pretty sure that no one who makes $100k a year in the US thinks they are rich.

Then again people who make $500k a year sometimes don't think they are rich.

Capitalism is a SOB.

29 - Refinery Mechanic, really depends on how many jobs we work, this year will be somewhere between 80 and 100k

Ah right. I can see how with a few kids, only one of you working, a high mortgage and a few debts, in an expensive city - that could be sometimes stretched. But it's not really poor or a bad situation. Probably average?

It's just all this, 'Yeah, I make a million a week. I'm pay cheque to pay cheque though, on the breadline - hard times man...' just amazes me. This thread played out exactly the same last time. It's interesting, but pretty pointless.

Depends largely on where but I'd say in all the boroughs combined the average is about 2100.

that's more than half of my take home salary, I wouldn't want to pay that much in rent making what I do now. Cost of living matters, is what I'm saying.

They don't think they're rich because everyone they know is also rich. It's like the Dunning-Kruger effect.

No they don't think they are rich because they spend more money at it is still not enough to get everything they want.

I don't like saying how much I make but in my experience spending increases at the same rate your salary does for most people.

Again it also depends on where you live. $100,000 in Manhattan is certainly livable but I wouldn't consider it rich after what you'll spend on rent alone.

But who is really forced to live in Manhattan? Is it not possible to work there and live in a less expensive borough?

Unskilled low pay worker here but you know what, I'm has happy has I've been at any job I've had. I do anything and everything from order picking, office stuff, general warehouse and delivery driving.

Technically part-time but often do almost full-time hours which works out to ~£15,000 PA (~$23,000). the flexibility in hours/days worked is great for my situation and it is a great place to work for/at.

Loads of little perks and bonuses. Four (modest, but nice) money bonuses this year alone so far. 100k £$ a year would be nice to buy a house but after that would be wasted on me has I live a shockingly frugal life to be honest.

At some point in the very near future I will become the carer for my younger disabled brother. Really not sure what will happen at that point....

All i know is that i get taxed 42%.

At least there are no ghettos in my city and I'm not at risk getting shot dead by police.
So these taxes are worth something.

Was making 42K a year at 19 (Finished a two year technical degree and got a job right out of school). Just quit my job and now am back in University. I'm 20 now.

A lot less than many of you, plus my wages are feeling pretty stagnant lately. I work in Operations and I specialize in dealing with Escalations. I've done a ton of different things in my role, and I'm good at just about everything, but unfortunately this just makes me look like "jack of all trades, master of none" and I can't seem to find other positions. Sigh. I'm plugging away and applying to jobs out of the area, though.

no freakin way

The average rent there is, what, 3000 a month?

I pay $1225 for my one bedroom apt in The Bronx. I manage on my 50k salary because of my "low" rent but my fellow Bronxites better be careful because in a few years many parts of the Bronx will surely see much higher rents. My neighborhood (Bedford Park) already has quite a few one bedroom apts for 1400 which is higher than the norm here. The only thing truly stopping the Bronx from breaking out is its reputation. The Bronx is a fine place to live.

23, 35k a year starting as a Systems Support Analyst. Looking to get my CCNA and CCNP to increase that in the next year. Still in full time college too so I have room to grow.
