Scary, what's up with that chest pain?

And I haven't really got any complaints about the 7200. I guess the one thing would be that the top LCD display is kinda downgraded from the 7k. But I'm getting used to it. Been really pleased with the shots I've gotten out of it so far.

Apparently is just chest wall pain, but nothing heart related. Have been to the ER and had stress test done, all normal results. DAMN YOU CHEST PAIN!!!

I'm seeing your shots coming out pretty clean with the D7200. They look pretty sweet.

A company was doing one of those "promote our shit on instagram/social media" for free and we might give you some prizes. The theme was healthy and fit for this Cafe/Salad chain around China. My friend wanted me to help her shoot some stuff and try to win. The contest is still going. This is what we got, plus a few bonus shots:

And sorry for posting this skyline once again, but it really never gets old. It was a perfect morning.

And a bonus Great Wall shot:

When were you in China? Should have stopped and said hi haha.

You people have some great stuff in here. This is my first post in one of these photography threads. Just a hobbyist but here's some stuff I think has some interest.

Looking for some advice.

I took this last night. I fashioned my camera (NEX-5) with duct tape to hold the shutter down and did continuous shooting 30 sec exposures. No dark frame.

My issue is the gaps between exposures. The larger ones here are frames I removed because somehow there was some movement in the frame (maybe the shutter bouncing the camera or something???), but even in continuous sequences, there are tiny gaps. How do I fill those gaps in?

Actually that looks really cool IMO.

I assume the gap is the time it takes for the camera to write the exposure to the memory card? If so, perhaps try a faster card or maybe stack shorter exposures so that it doesn't take as long to write?

If the NEX 5 is anything like the a5000 that came after it, it's not particularly fast at scribbling down the data from longer exposures. I think a 30 second exposure takes like 20 seconds to write, even using a relatively fast card.

That actually sounds pretty logical. I'll have to look in to that.

Meanwhile, having gotten pretty good at shooting the Milky Way, I've tried to find more interesting foregrounds to add with it.

I need to get better at not editing my pictures in a vacuum. Each of these pictures has a significant amount of editing that I didn't really pay close attention to matching the colors between them. Oh well.

Would you guys matte out the control building at the bottom of the radio tower? I couldn't decide if I should composite a darker image of those buildings with the brighter star shot.

There's apparently going to be a meteor shower tonight. Was thinking of trying to go out and shoot it? Any general tips and tricks to capture it?

I saw a lot of meteors last night when I was shooting the shots above. The Perseids are going on right now (have been all week). I'd recommend a fast lens, long exposure times, and pointing your camera at the constellation Perseus, then wait. I haven't had a lot of luck though.

Don't go out expecting to get shots like this though, it's not that easy: http://40.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m8t56xVga51qbh26io1_1280.jpg

Oh no I'm definitely not expecting to get anything usable. It's mostly to go out and see it but I figured I'd try my hand at capturing some of it. If not, hopefully some night sky photos. Thanks for the tips!

Recent trip to SD. Didn't get a chance to capture a lot but these two I really liked.

Also going to try and capture some of the meteor shower tonight, but won't have a chance to go to some place dark. Hoping I can get some usable shots in my backyard.

Tried it for the very first time, was lots of fun! You do need patience, and lots of luck. And a good environment. Flanders isn't exactly the best place in the world to do astrophotography. I live in quite a rural area, but still this damn light polution acts like a complete bitch.

Man, that's way more than what I got! I think I headed out too early, but it got really cloudy after an hour or so and I couldn't see anything. And it got real cold. I did manage to see some of it myself, though. Since it's supposedly going to keep going throughout the week I might try it out again, but in a different spot.

This could be because you have steady shot on which creates a tiny amount of movement at intervals so the lens knows how to steady itself, or something like that. If you have the camera on a tripod and are taking long exposures, turn off steady shot from the menu.

Do any of you make money from stock photos or are there better options/sites on the internet to turn some of your work into profit?

Sorry if this isn't the best place to ask this question, feel free to direct me to a better thread.

I looked into stock, after researching it, I decided its definitely not for me. For a lot of the places, to make decent money you have to be a literal factory and realize you're competing against people that that's all they do.

I make money off my photography through print sales.

I briefly looked through iStock, Alamy and some other sites (there are so many now) I didn't know if anyone had experience with these type of sites and had any preferences or places to avoid. Just hoping to benefit from some lessons learned when starting out.

I wasn't sure there were any other style of sites to sell your work. I know there are places like Redbubble if you wanted to just sell prints. There wasn't any other system I could think for photography outside of maybe like a 99designs type of crowd sourcing or even like a daily sites the way t-shirt companies like Teefury feature a design for 24 hrs.

Perfectly clear night, no wind, low humidity, no moon light, and I had to go to a stupid party with the SO. When I got home I took this quicky of the milky way overhead in the sky with a wideangle lens but didn't bother to setup my telescope as it was already past 1 AM. Hopefully tonight is as favorable because I'll be setting up the scope.

Amazing as always!

amazing pics? May I ask what camera/lens combo you were using and where is this in Indonesia? I'm planning to travel around SEA next year.

Thanks guys.
Canon 5D Mark 2 with Sigma 35mm ART. After 3 years i changed from a manual lens (Walimex 35mm) to an automatic. Wished i had a Sony A7II for this trip, since walking up the "mountain" with the giant dslr was a bit of struggle.

It was on Bali. A day(night) trip to the top of Mt. Batur. If you got the possibility to take any of these Mountain trips you should definitely take one. It is a bit "hard" but really you will enjoy the view and also the walking thru clouds while going down is something i have never done. Awesome experience.

god damn wow.

Here are some of my tries of capturing the Perseids meteor shower. Also first time shooting the night sky.

still, for the first time they are good. My results were often messed up (tried it in Kenya/Maldives/Indonesia) but without any tripod.

Thank you! I used a small travel tripod, the Cullmann Copter Mini. Forgot my big one at my house where they're remodelling :(
Any tips for the future? Since I found a pretty good spot not far away I want to go and try my hand at even more.

to be honest, i'm not into night sky photography, so i am not the right person i think. But what i would suggest, when looking at yours: the trees are kinda distracting me/my view. I would have still them in the future, but more at the edges. Maybe it's just me.

Amazing!
What software do you use to edit your photos?

Thanks.
Used Lightroom for all of them.

I totally get what you mean. I felt like I needed something else in the foreground and to be honest, my viewfinder was pitch black as I was shooting so I wasn't really sure what I was aiming at. I'll keep that in mind for next time though and try out different stuff :)

I typically crank the ISO up and do a few test shots to work on framing (and also accept that some adjustments on framing can happen later), then dial the ISO down and settle in for the real deal shots. Every night I go out to take star photos I end up with a lot of garbage photos for framing and focusing purposes.

Here's some recent shots.

I picked up a Canon AE-1 Program off of Craigslist, so here are some of the first shots I've gotten developed. Shooting film is really fun!
