Here's some recent shots.

I picked up a Canon AE-1 Program off of Craigslist, so here are some of the first shots I've gotten developed. Shooting film is really fun!

Does anyone know of some Lightroom presets that can recreate this look? I love the vintage-y aesthetic of a good film camera but I hate actually shooting with it haha

When I'm trying to go that direction with edits, I'll get my colors and contrast where I want, and then I'll play with the "Exposure..." controls in the Adjustments menu in Photoshop. The offset slider will pull the blacks into a more gray zone, I've found. This is in Photoshop though.

Hey guys I'm kind of new to photography. Right now I'm currently using a canon t4i with a 35mm canon lense. I was wondering what would be a good flash for it? I see many types butnhave no clue what's good or not.

a lot of my threads involve me fucking up somehow. Perhaps I'm a moron?
Sun looked lovely on the lake this evening, so I took a cheesy romantic shot of my girlfriend. I think it turned out pretty swell though.

well, for the start a Canon Speedlite 430EX II will just do it.

Random photos from last night's Austin Pride Parade 2015. My wife and I were fortunate enough to ignorantly stumble upon this historic event on a belated Birthday dinner for her at Isla Austin.

Not the greatest photography as I'm blindly mashing auto-shoot with my arm fully extended upward, but still a really cool event. Album here.

Birchwood trail to house from some outlook (currently you cannot see anything due to large trees, but 60 years ago you could see a lot - Akron is derived from highest point (in Ohio) in Greek).

English garden.

Stan Hywet Hall:

First photo is of a daughter in the family getting married. Clever before/after in the mirror. Second is the music room - it has a fully loaded pipe organ system in the walls. Oddly this is in Akron, OH, which is like Detroit lite.

Interesting note is that they recently reconfigured the mansion's original furniture exactly the way it was when the family donated it because they were provided tons of photos from an amateur photographer in the family. You can see this in the bottom left of the 2nd photo with the room - it was uncanny because nearly every room had a picture from many decades ago showing the same room with high precision. I was out there with a really good 24 mm prime lens, and the photos were definitely lower focal length than that yet had 0 vignetting that I could see. Really shows you that lenses are timeless in some sense.

Joe Six-Pack: posting for the common man
My son turned 1 today. I don't believe I've posted much if any pictures of him in these threads, mostly because I didn't want to be that guy. Not that there's anything wrong with it.

But I have been planning on doing a collage all year to give to my mom and my wife. So here is the collage. The full size is 24x30.

Sup Photo-Gaf, long time no post. I've been waiting on getting a scanner and most of the necessary accessories. Anyways, just did two quick post work on two photos with lightroom. I'm still having trouble really getting the images to look crisp. Anyone know how I can get rid of the somewhat foggy haze?

Has anyone been able to uncover the ideal dimensions for portrait/landscape pictures on Instagram? I know 1:1 are recommend at 1080*1080 but I can't find anything concrete on the new formats.

Would like to put some of my DSLR stuff up there now the conversion is that much more straightforward.

the haze is possibly from the scanning stage I think. if you are using the Epson software dont use the auto crop / thumbnail feature as I find it can mess up easily.

Do your preview scan, do a rough highlight of the frames you want to scan then use the zoom button on each individual shot to crop it right. Make sure you dont get any frame edges in the crop as this seems to mess up the auto exposure software and can give you those hazy shots. Hope that helps, if not let me know and I'll go into my scan settings and see if there is anything there I have changed from default.

Just got back from Hong Kong. I was only there for about 3 1/2 days, but I felt like I got some decent shots. Here's some of my favorites:

Dog at Po Lin Monastery by Ryan Ellis, on Flickr

These three shot with 'crappy' kit lenses are gorgeous. Really shows that basic kit can do great things when used well.

How do you process these? They have a very high contrast look to them that I've seen before but always find it difficult to apply to my own photos.
