The last three are fine, the first one looks way over exposed cause her skin seems to be blown out and the second seems under exposed, but that's just my opinion. Edit the second on isn't that bad actually. Looks better in full res.

Well the first one was overexposed when shot on purpose. Just that the hand burned white all the way, what wasn't intended. Second one one lighted by one big window and I tried to get a mood with it.

Thanks for the criticism. I have a lot to learn, both shooting and the dreaded Photoshopping.

Was in London for a wedding a managed to get a few pics from South Bank. Probably a bit touristy, but gave me a chance to play with long exposure.

Love these. Takes me back to when DPReview was based in London and I would spend too much time looking at their review photos. If I ever make it to London I'm sure I'll see the same places.

Don't worry its always a work in progress.

Thanks Quality. Yeah definitely lots of places to photograph, just got to pick the right time between the rain ha ha.

Testing out my X-T2. Really in love with this camera so far.

Had a job this weekend which.. i don't think turned out great :/ on location at a theatre place which was cool, but the parts of the building we had access to were not great, janky lighting and all...
Tried to look confident and in charge while inside thinking 'oh christ what am i supposed to do!...' haha

couple of things I've been playing with in the last week.

Interested to see what the job was when you can post it.

I like the skyline edit. Not sure about the first portrait... What were you going for here?

Nothing special with the overcast skies, but here's the Boise State football field. Kinda blue. But only kinda.

I like the framing on this second one. Everything lines up, the cars, the scoreboard, the Ford ad... Nice job. Still think it's a hideous looking stadium though lol.

I can't get on my VPN since I'm back to China, so no new uploads for me. :(

Yeah will post some of this weekend's stuff when it's up. Might try processing some more... when in doubt stick some messy glitchy filters on it hah :p

And with that first portrait just feeling something clunky / off balance and .. unposed i guess. Get frustrated when everything is too clean.
Think i'm attracted to an awkward , off kilter moment between shots, with him still looking pretty, rather than a posed shot of him *trying* to look pretty.

How long are you back in China for, more long term traveling?
Trying to mentally keep up with where your travels are going, but i feel like I'd need one of those detective wall maps with points connected with red string...

I know what you mean about unposed, but I feel like if you want some more clunkiness maybe making it less organic and more thought out would work? I don't know, kind of like those arm ones I remember being critical of before. Maybe too random and just doesn't add anything... just my 2 cents.

I went from Nepal to Thailand but was sick in Thailand so just stayed for a day, didn't wanna be paying for hotel while I just lay there and do nothing so got a flight back to my apartment in Western China ( right near Laos)... Next week I'll be heading to Korea because there is a big national holiday in China and those are absolute clusterfucks with a billion people trying to travel and get home, plus nothing is really open then except tourist places and they are all cram packed. I've got some friends in Korea and a place to stay for free so I'll be there at least 10 days or so... then who knows! I guess back to China. Trying to figure out my next steps in life... any suggestions? lol.

Random Friend

I like this.. really polished.

I've been working on a fun project with an illustrator friend on these glitchy colourful things. Trying to mash up his pastel cute style with my photos and glitchiness.

Now we are like some cute gay power rangers team and i love it :p
Fun just to work in a playful way with someone bouncing ideas back and forth and making a mess.

Has anyone here sold any prints? What is the correct place to do so? I've had some people ask me for prints (locally), and was thinking maybe I could try selling them online, but wouldnt know where to start..
These are absolutely gorgeous photos.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?

This is great - I presume completely candid? Wish it was just pulled back a little bit so I could see more of the instrument/crafting tool and it was less constrained. But cool shot :)

Thank you and yes it was completely candid. I think in order to see more of the actual instrument I'd have to be standing over head. It was essentially a xylophone.

I figured this was the best place to ask this given the number of film shooters here.

I've shot and processed some C41 film (35mm only), but I don't shoot that much so the 6 week shelf time of the developer (1 liter lasts 12-16 rolls) complicated things and right now the only kit I can buy online is 2.5 liters. I don't have to make all at once, but the opened bottles also have limited shelf life.
Therefore I wanted to try shooting some black and white and wondered what the recommendations were for developers, stop baths, fixers and of course the film. I like low contrast and fine grain, but winter is approaching so I'd also like something fast.

Took a trip to La Palma this week, basically to get a good week's rest in one of the most peaceful and beautiful islands in the world, but also to get a real good look at a dark night sky, something we don't have in Belgium. What an experience! I never could have thought it would have such a deep impact on me, I was stumped to see the thousands of stars in the sky.

Since I can't see the MW here, I had no real experience in both shooting and postprocess, so go easy on me.
I wanted to get better foreground lighting, but after wanting to use my remote controller, I found out that it had gone broken on me. That was a bit of a bummer. :( But still, to see the MW with my own eyes like that for the first time was an amazing experience. And I'm happy that I got to experience it on this beautiful island.

As a bonus a picture of Andromeda. Thought it came out quite nice for something I've never done before.

Great work! These are all very impressive for someone who hasn't done much of it before!

I think you exposed the stars magnificently and you did a great job of keeping the natural colors of the Milky Way in-tact while bringing out the structure very well.

My one suggestion would be to light your foreground more subtly. Your best bet is indirect light. I often try to paint my scenery with a flashlight that I've diffused or the luck of a passing car in the distance. There are some harsh shadow lines in your shot with the tree, and if you're painting with a moving light source, you paint out those harsh lines and get a more evenly lit scene.

Really though, love how well you captured the Milky Way. I even love the distortion at the edges of the first shot. Works well with the subject.

I've left Nepal but still have heaps of photos from there to get through and upload, been so far behind thanks to some crazy hitchhiking adventures in China plus shit internet... so first some more Nepal and at some point more from China, and just landed in Korea a few hours ago so that should be fun.

Hah good work getting down into the ditch. Dedication ;) and makes for a more dynamic photo there. fun.

And great using all the colour in the second one. The blocks of Red / Green / Blue are really good and makes a great portrait. I'm a bit torn because the low angle you have works for the feel of the space, but also it might have been more.. graphic if the Red roof and Blue seat were more balanced in the frame, from a higher angle? Not sure just a thought.

Thank you!

I know the lighting is a bit harsh, but we only had our smartphone flashlights with us. :p Next time I'm gonna bring sometime more and a little better. It was a good first time experience. I'd love to do it again, but it won't be anytime soon. :(

Here's two from my first job using my 5D IV.

thoughts on the focus on the first one? I missed the eyes by a hair but I think I'm fine with it. I had six or so other photos from this same angle, but I liked the expression on his face the most in this one.

Believe it or not I find the second picture more interesting.

My first thought when viewing the first picture was "focus appears to be on the chin andn ot the eyes, shame that the picture is only in such a small resolution so I can't see for sure" and then after scrolling down and reading your text "yep, as I suspected." To answer your question: I find it a tiny bit distracting.

No, the most distracting thing I find is how expressionless he seems.

That's him though... I got him to smile in some shots but he said he hates smiling in photos. This isn't like a portrait for him to use to send around to galleries or something (he's an artist). I think of it as my own artistic portrait. The camera angle and his expression are the whole point behind the photo in my view. He never really smiles IRL and has that blank expression to him. I feel the low angle, his expression and the dripping paint work to give a sense of anxiety in the shot which is what I went for.

For the event I was working, this is the photo of him that I sent as it's more straight forward and "normal"...

Ok that makes more sense, some people are just like that.
