GAF Quick opinion - gogogo!!! (PSP edition)

GDJustin

stuck my tongue deep inside Atlus' cookies
I got a sudden, VERY powerful urge to get a 3rd PSP game, and I thrive on impulse, and I'm literally looking at a 24-hour super walmart out my window right now. I can't spend anymore money, so I was fighting the urge, until I remembered I had some sealed $5 circuit city games still :D

So, as I'm pealing off the labels of Legaia 2 and Mega Man X7 to "Return" them to WalMart for $40-$50, I want you to help me decide between Twisted Metal: Head On or Metal Gear AC!D. I already have Lumines and Wipeout.

I enjoyed Twisted Metal 2, back in the day. Thought it was good, shallow fun. Thats the only TM experience I've had. How is it online? Is there any "meat" to the single player game?

I enjoy strategy games and card games (LOOOVE Culdcept), so would AC!D be good? I love the genre, but I've heard AC!D has some bullshit mechanics, and that turns me off quickly.

As with all impulse decisions, I'm gonna be leaving here in a matter of minutes, so I need opinions! Stat! :)

I think that Twisted Metal and Metal Gear Acid both suck, but if I were to pick one, it would be Metal Gear Acid - just for the ridiculous storyline alone.

Of course, if you could find Ridge Racer...

Not interested in RR. I'm not really much of a racing gamer, so Wipeout is my "PSP racing game" for at least a year or so.

Personally, I'd go with MGA. I bought it along with my PSP and I have been enjoying it ever since. The game has a lot of interesting mechanics. Haven't played TM: HO, so I really can't say anything about that.

I currently have Lumines, Wipeout, MGA and Twisted Metal. If I had to choose between Twisted Metal or MGA at this point, I'd say MGA. Twisted Metal is a blast online, but I seem to be one of the few who have no problems getting online and playing games. If I could guarantee you wouldn't have any problems getting on Twisted Metal online, I'd say go for that.

Heck, even thinking about it now I'm not sure, as MGA has a bit of a learning curve to start.

From a Twisted Metal fan: Twisted Metal: Head On sucks.

There's really no meat to it, as you ask. It's painfully easy, the presentation, level design, boss design, character balance, pickups and overall flow of the game has been watered down devolved and broken after the improvements in TM:B to recapture a needless sense of nostalgia, that, outside of the Paris level really isn't there.

Oh, and the online play is busted currently.

As far as Acid goes, I'm not a big Metal Gear fan, but I am a turn-based strategy fan. If you enjoy said genre, and especially if you enjoy card games like culdcept within the genre, you will love Acid. It's unique, very challenging, very true to the franchise and really doesn't have any substantial flaws outside of learning curve. The deck creation and overall flow are great, it basicly plays exactly how it sounds: turn based Metal Gear with card management. It's meaty to boot, susposedly 25ish hours.

It and Fire Emblem makes the whole console strategy gig feel awkward, even with Nippon Ichi's broken grind games. :p

I've been looking for something a bit more "single player" than the two games I have (Lumines and RR). MGA it is.

This explains the messages you left me.

Since you're a big card fan, I'd go for Metal Gear Ac!d.

Twisted Metal is, pretty much, as you remember it. And online play is a tad spotty right now - the network code isn't the greatest and can present various problems.

If you accept the MG+Cards and are willing to work a little to understand the mechanics of the game, MGA is the game for you.

I have RR and MGA and MGA has been getting most of my play time. I sold Gretzky and bought UL, I needed a button-smasher. Hope I won't regret it.

Both are good games IMO, but I would go with Metal Gear Ac!d. Twisted Metal is basically just more of the same, and MGA is a new concept for the Metal Gear series. I don't even normally like card games and strategy games, but MGA has been a blast.

Also have to recommend you try Ridge Racer. It's the best PSP game out IMO.

I sold off Need For Speed Underground Rivals today. Not in the same league as Ridge Racer and Wipeout Pure.

If you like the Champions of Norrath and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance games, you'll enjoy Untold Legends. :)

HAHAHA! I was expecting $20 for Legaia, and $20 for Mega Man X7, to give me just enough credit for one of the two PSP games. Turns out each of them got traded back in for $30 somehow, so when the dust settled I got BOTH AC!D and Twisted Metal, and had to spend $21. Yeah the whole point was to not spend any money on this excursion, but I still feel like I did ok :)

The funny thing is Wal Mart totally knew what I was up to.

The geek behind the register was like "I need a supervisor." She came over and she saw the square marks from where I pealed off the Circuit City label and was like "these were bought at Target, not here" and I said I got them as a gift for my Bday and they said they got them at walmart. And she was like "well, they weren't bought here. We will take them back, but just so you know..."

I knew when to stop explaining myself, so at that point I was like "ok, thanks"

IMO Ridge Racer is the best PSP launch title. And this is coming from a person that really isn't into RR or racing games in general. Really solid title, with great presentation and music.

Ridge Racer. I don't even like racing games and yet I'm completely addicted to RR. I found it to be much more fun than Wipeout or any other PSP game out there. If you own a PSP without RR, you're wrong.
