I suppose we won't move on till a new big girl releases and flops. Shakira is coming in a few weeks, doubt she'll have much success in the US, but at least she'll have WW numbers (maybe). Though Shaki isn't really considered a big pop girl round here.

This is the most sonically uninteresting album that Kylie has made. And it's meant to help her break into the US market? This is definitely not going to do it.
Skirt and Sparks alone are better than most of Kiss Me Once. It's really disappointing, actually. She needs to work with Price and Harris again

It usually takes me dozens of listens, and months of prayer and fasting to discern the true nature of a Kylie album's divinity, but I can say this:
"Kiss Me Once" is definitely Kylie's Hard Candy in the sense that it's a solid, standard pop album that won't be as well-received as it should be because of the caliber of the artist that made it. Once you get to Madonna/Kylie levels of musical celebrity, the expectation is that every musical outing will be something highly conceptual and irreverent of current trends. "Kiss Me Once" isn't this. It's good, it's catchy, it's chock full of bops (it's even a more immediately "listenable" album to me than Aphrodite was, initially), but it's very "of its time."
I said about Hard Candy long ago that if that album had been recorded by some up-and-comer in the Pop game, it would have been praised. The album really is great in its own standard way. But it's Madonna; the expectation is much higher. ESPECIALLY after Confessions. I see this being the case with Kiss Me Once, as well.
Kiss Me Once doesn't rock the boat, it doesn't really show a new side to Kylie, and it won't displace any of my top 3 Kylie albums. But still, it is polished and good pop confection, which makes it better than most of the drivel your faves will release this year.

Kiss Me Once is a pleasant diversion and that's it. I expected much more out of something that's supposedly executive-produced by Sia (Sparks pretty much proved that someone else should have handpicked the album tracks, it was definitely good enough for the standard edition).
I have to give it to Kylie, though, no one else can make songs about sex sound so classy.
