is beloved, despite what anyone might say
1) Xenoblade Chronicles X - the original was easily my favorite game of last generation, and now we have confirmation that this will be more crazy mecha anime story based.

2) Zelda - looks breathtaking with a gorgeous art style

3) Smash Bros - after Brawl, I'm a tad hesitant but I'm loving the character reveals so far. Hopefully the online is up to snuff.

4) Mario Maker - I love level creation stuff, and it's cool to see a 2D platformer level editor tied to a good game series (sorry LBP fans, but I just don't like the physics in that series)

5) No Man's Sky - The graphics are beautiful and I love the concept of exploration, but I'm a bit hesitant since we know little about its gameplay, and procedurally generated stuff isn't always up to snuff.

6) Bloodborne - I'm gonna have to see a bit more, and maybe actually sit down and play the Souls series, but everything I've heard about them sounds right up my alley. Japanese, punishing, and oldskool.

7) Super Dead Rising EX whatever - I like the DR games and wackiness + nostalgia is always an effective combination.

8) Yoshi's Wooly World - sooooo cuuuuute! But Good Feel's games are usually a bit too slow-paced for me. Will be good to play with the gf.

9) Sunset Overdrive - love the bright, neon aesthetic and the rail grinding/kinetic movement. Almost seems like something Sega would do back in the arcade heyday. A great contrast to the usual big western game.

10) Witcher 3 - loved the first Witcher, was mixed on the second... but I'm still curious to see how the story will end, and also if CD Projekt has continued to refine the battle system.

Splatoon is by far the most exciting game I've seen this E3. Only Nintendo can take a genre as tired as team arena shooter and inject this much originality and fun into it. Looks amazing.

Bayonetta 2 sold me a Wii U, and the inclusion of the first game with a port done in-house that includes extra features (Japanese audio, new costumes) is just icing on the cake. What an incredible value.

I haven't played SM3DW and now I regret it. Captain Toad looks so charming. I love the how the levels look just floating in the air like that.

I was clearly most impressed by Nintendo this year. I thought the zelda trailer was awesome, created so much hype for me for that game. Seeing so much of smash bros gameplay was really nice, they did a good job with the tournament/treehouse streams.

No man's sky is there just because of the ground - space - ground flight, who knows how the actual game will be.

Arkham knight was a good way to prove cross gen games need to die fast.

1. Xenoblade Chronicles X - The extended look at this game just screamed “I am huge and deep and long, throw your life away for 90 hours and devour me!”  It’s looking like it might be an RPG for the ages.

2. The Legend of Zelda Wii U – Beautiful, and it got the internet talking more than anything.

3. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain – This game keeps looking better and better to me.  The story has me legitimately intrigued, I like that the silliness has been sidelined a bit.  I feel like it suits the tone a lot better.

4. Uncharted 4:  A Thief’s End – We basically got nothing but “here’s the level of graphics you can expect.”  It was enough, I’m in.

5. Splatoon – I am in no way this game’s target audience, but the extended gameplay showed a ton of ideas and tactics that seemed to put it ahead of the rest of the shooter genre.   I was surprised and impressed.

6. Ori and the Blind Forest – Microsoft’s conference didn’t resonate with me; if it wasn’t a shooter it was annoying sarcastic cartoon characters mouthing off.  But this game had a ton of charm, and was the clear highlight for me.

7. The Order: 1886 – I shake my head when people complain about scripted events, like they haven’t loved a billion games that rely on them heavily.  But no, show a QTE button on screen and the whole internet pretends they think it’s Night Trap or something.  The setting, characters and visuals for The Order look amazing, looking forward to it.

8. The Evil Within – Like the only AAA game I can really see myself getting this fall, looks like old school Resident Evil fun.

9. Shovel Knight  - There are a billion retro themed games out there, but this one has an obvious level of care and attention to it, plucking those old NES heart strings.

10. Assassin’s Creed: Unity –  It was a lot of killing, but that was a great demo reel.  Really shows what they can do with next gen.

Almost made the list: Destiny - but I know I just don’t have time for it.  That gorgeous white PS4 has me seriously considering selling my launch unit and getting the bundle though.

Should have made the list: Deus Ex Universe, Metroid Wii U, Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem - Where were they :/

2. Assassins Creed Unity

I picked Unity above all else because I was blown away by the leap it made in comparison to Black Flag. Graphics, animations, number of NPCs, everything is drastically improved. Add to that the return to form as in a huge, sprawling city to explore, a complete overhaul of the mission structure [more open ended, less restrictions and scripted situations] and the addition of the long overdue dedicated stealth button has me extremely excited.
