Game Boy Micro: New GBA Revision

if this is cheap cheap cheap I can't see it not selling like hotcakes as a gift to children at birthdays and christmas. 3rd pillar indeed.

if you already have a GBA, then nintendo probably isn't marketing this towards you. Why do people expect Nintendo to cater only to you indivitually or something? If you are buying 5 gbas just because Nintendo keeps making them, then im sorry, you are stupid, and it has nothing to do with them. Should Miyamoto come to your house and balance your checkbook too?

Nintendo knows that their fans won't be able to resist not buying this

Meh, I think it's a great idea and I'd rather use it for GBA games than the DS, if for some reason I wasn't carrying that around. If it's cheap I'll swipe it up whenever it launches, if not, I'll just pass. I only wish it had come around earlier though, while I was still in high school, it probably hides so easily and makes it much harder to get away with gaming than even the SP.

But yeah, if it's anywhere near the price of the SP, I don't think I want to bother. But below $50? A steal. That and hopefully it's comfortable, at least somewhat. Seriously though, if it's cheap I don't see the big deal of buying it. If this is another $99 entry model, fuck that.

I don't get why nintendo felt a new GBA was necessary at this time.

Apparently the screen is better quality than the SP's but you'll need an electron microsocope to see anything.

You got it, buddy!

I don't see why so many people are pissed off. Companies like Sony and Panasonic have several models of DVD players. Why can't Nintendo have several ways to play their GBA software?

I bet there are at least a handful of people out there who don't have a GBA at the moment who will now feel the impetus to pick up one of these Micros.

As for me, I'm a Nintendo whore, so I'll be snapping one up as soon as it's out. This and Battalion Wars were the only good things to come out of that horrible, god-forsaken press conference that I missed an hour of work to see.

GBA games are not included in the list of systems that were presented to be within Revolution's playability.

it'd be awesome if they included some kind of onboard memory in the GBMicro where you can take old NES/SNES games on the go with you using the Revolution's download service.

Eh, as long as it's at the right price point I don't understand all the hate. There's probably millions more sales to be made off the GBA by going under $50 and targeting kids (which the size seems to even moreso than the GBA or SP). Hell, I could see Micros being sold at the checkout stand next to the candy :lol.

Here's the first add-on for the system so you can actually SEE WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE SCREEN

Screw that thing, I like being able to see wtf I am doing in games that I already have 3 'systems' to play them on already. No sale.

I certainly don't think it's targeted at people who already own GBAs (though I'm sure a number of those might buy one too). There are probably non-owners out there that see this as a reason to enter portable gaming.

Oh PLEASE.

I'm not going to buy it, but it seems some of you get downrate irate when Nintendo does something no other sane manufacturer would think of and they make a fucking mint off it.

This thing will be dirt cheap and do just that.

I agree. Like I said before, to me this is nothing worse than Sony making more than one kind of DVD player, or more than one type of Discman. What's the big fucking deal?

I'm sure there are people out there who, for whatever reason, will find this GB Micro more to their liking than the other GBAs, thus making this their first GBA purchase.

I have a feeling this is one of those items that doesnt look like much in pictures, but is pretty sleek and sexy in person.

That's said, I don't think the world needed another fucking gameboy advance iteration.

But it explains some things about the DS. The next gameboy is really the last gameboy, and therefore realy won't fragment the market and hurt DS.

Personally I'm waiting on the GBA wrist watch. That thing is gonna rock!

They had a chance, if they could have fit in a small mp3 player and released this at 100 bucks it would fly. Nintendo has failed me yet once more.

You couldn't stop me from buying it if that was the case....

So I don't feel up to the math right now, but how does this new pixel density compare to, say, PSP?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't IGN confirm that this is fully backwards compatible?
With what? It's a GBA in tiny new clothing.

Ahaha. Earlier I was actually wondering how difficult it would be to strap a GBA Micro to my left arm and play turn-based strategy games in a super-geeky way.

Sorry Nintendo, I don't need a 4th GBA. GBA, Player & SP all serve an equal purpose for me while this things would just be around for eyecandy. -_- Booooo.

A two fucking inch screen? Jesus, Nintendo is really milking the hell out of its consumers.

The GBA:SP is the final step in the GBA evolution. No substitutes. Forget it.

This bears repeating. It's just a new model. Happens all the time with things like automobiles and other electronics. GBA being a simple, cheap, portable system with wide appeal is just more prone to being modifiable.

I think it looks pretty cool/sexy, and I'd probably buy it at the right price, or a least get a cheaper SP out of the deal.

I find it kind of odd that people complain about having 5 GBA's yet it's too much of a requirement for connectivity

People have some weird expectations on technology, just because it's smaller doesn't mean it's cheaper, on the contrary.

Expect this to be $79 and SP at $49 with luck. Probably gonna go initially closer to $100 though

I think this new model will actually give Gameboy some new life in the same vein it did when Pokemon hit, the GB line is consistently about 2D gaming and in that sector it doesn't really need a technology update, but it's like getting a real sucessor by having such a redesign.

It reminds me of when Pokemon was released, even though there was no hardware update GB took off again like it was new. There was a new social aspect to it that gave it new life, I think something to that extent will eventually come around this, be it with the help of new games like Mother or just the design.

i don't think anyone's telling you to be excited about anything. they showed it at their conference, big deal - they're not expecting the world to start holding hands and break into song..

reminds me of apple releasing all these iterations of the ipod

and i'd buy one if it means i could play tetris attack / PPL in backlit glory :P

You know - considering Nintendo's history, I'm expecting this thing to hit at $75 or so. They can justify that price tag with the backlit screen and new design; sure it's total bullshit but this is Nintendo we're talking about.

Still - I want one. Big middle finger to the DS. I'll be able to have my GBA games, and eat them too. Assuming Nintendo doesn't magically fuck this one up like the last two. >:|

looks like its the size/shape of the old NES controllers. Damn thats tiny, and kinda slick looking. If you look at the video they played of it, they showed one with a shiny black faceplate that looked cool.

Now if only somebody would make a gba cart that read the small memory cards the psp takes (so you could use a regular cart size) that would turn the gba into an mp3 player. Gigabytes of mp3 storage in a gba micro! =)

I still don't understand the micro GBA. SP is tiny when you fold it in half. Plus you get a bigger screen. Whats the appeal of this over the SP?
