Game companies are “baffled” by Microsoft’s multiplatform strategy, reluctant to develop games for Xbox consoles, according to a new report

Completely different take; msft is now able if the rumors are true to launch a device tethered to windows pcs. We know pc gaming ain't getting cheaper.
Gamepass for those that can't fork over 60-100 usd per month.
Ability to utilize its publisher status to effect multiple markets pc/console.

If Sony nor Nintendo can't feed AAA fps/wrpgs/action games and other pubs drop the ball we could be seeing a publisher with an os that caters to over 800 million consumers align itself in a nasty way.

Would be interesting if spec wars returned in a devastating way aka pc ports being a league above consoles.

Just random thoughts as I think msft could be a monopoly if they play this right.
Put some more would not want you to get all inflamed ;).

He's not saying what you think he is. The key point is right there in his follow up tweet:

Pubs & devs are constantly aware of market split, usually before any indication is public.

As in - they as a team were not surprised by what's happening due to the data they had access to. They also self publish their games so will take a different perspective to a large publisher who would now be in direct competition with Xbox as another major publisher.

-------

Uncomfortable witnessing such a public evisceration, wasn't it?

Yeh the guy who inappropriately conducted himself and made a fool of himself got removed from the thread. It's a shame isn't it?

Say hi to Seth for me by the way, tell him I miss him.

Why not keep their games on Xbox and PC, and stream games to mobile and TVs? They wouldn't even have to set foot on Nintendo or Sony platforms which are their direct competition.

I know exactly what they're saying...

First of all, what's certain is that they're not saying what you originally pointed out in this thread about the topic in question 😉

Second, The thread is another example of how information, data, or an issue is distorted as it passes through social media, creating a question that didn't exist before.

Third, you have other tweets I've pointed out that you may have overlooked about how interesting, expensive or smart it is to publish games on Xbox..... A hint: No, the "devs are baffled..." Is not that Studios and developers are prepared for massive cancellations and to stop making games on XSeries starting this year 😉

Nothings been "distorted". Dring said what he said, then later backtracked because someone clearly had a word in his ear.

The "certain developers and publishers" who he originally referred to as speaking with were clearly not the guys at Larian.

But overall I think you're right, I have no doubt they will all continue to make games for "Xbox PC".

Because ABK happened. There are not enough Xbox sales and Game Pass is not growing as fast as they want to make the profits Microsoft wants. It is obvious that streaming is not going to be the answer. At least for now.

Not to mention the fact that they send them in one by one like whack a mole as well.

What's nuts is that it always follows the same pattern and they think people aren't going to see through the bullshit. Especially given everything that's happened and the direction Xbox are now going in, how do you not realise it's not working?
Lol. Absolutely no originality from them. I swear, they all seemingly repeat the same shit over and over.

Microsdoft has had this advantage for decades. It still amazes me that anyone with a functioning brain believes it's that simple.

This is the type of thread you walk into expecting to see a few nervous breakdowns and word salads anyway. If we didn't have at least one, with a title like that, honestly. What's the world coming to?

It is kinda that simple. You put games on your machine. If you don't have enough games, you secure deals with others. That makes your platform attractive. Sony got it when they launched their machine back in 1994, and Microsoft also did that back in 2001, and then in 2005 again. And then magically dropped the ball in 2013 by believing people would buy their next machine anyway without needing to put too much effort into the games. And then we got Mr "games don't sell machines" at the top and he's still there since.

Plus the ABK deal meant they would be publishing their biggest game on PS5 (and Switch 2 presumably) by default. If you are putting by far your biggest game on other platforms - why stop at just that game?

I don't know who Seth is but notice how you've proved your executioner's point by throwing out more alt claims?
Is it at all possible that not every poster who disagrees with you on here is a deep undercover Microsoft employee?

I really don't get the "device tethered to Windows PCs" spec wars thing.

Like they release a system, but you connect it to your PC for processing power?

Like an eGPU? Like "haha my Xbox thing has more specs than your PS thing bc I connected it to my $3k computer that I already purchased".

In the best case scenario, it's nothing more than the existing spec wars of whatever that PC cost vs any other thing?

Or a Wii U where the console is your computer instead?

This "executioner" of yours was so good he ended up executing himself.

But no, that wasn't an alt claim, just a little puppy I miss dearly. Would be a great shame if you didn't have the the means to fulfill my request.

That you can't follow or understand my post doesn't make it nonsense lmfao
Look, I know since ethomaz got canned you've taken up the mantle as GAF's one man circus of stupidity, jumping at every chance you think you have to talk down to someone, but you have no idea what I wrote because you don't understand the context. You don't understand the context, because you thought you saw an opportunity to dunk on someone.

Now, to thinking people, it just looks like you can't handle reading a couple elementary level paragraphs.

You're a chump, the worst form of human, a troll that thinks they know everything and everyone else is beneath you.

It's not my fault or problem that you can't keep up.
Another banned alt loser i see.

And then we got Mr "games don't sell machines" at the top and he's still there since.

This is the excuse of the incompetent.

Saying that it is the "legacy library" that prevents those who bought the PS4 from buying the Xbox SX and that the games "don't matter" because of this.

It is convenient for everyone inside MS to believe this lie, it is less work.

If Nadella didn't believe this lie, he would have to fire Phill and all his followers and hire other people. For Nadella, it is easier to believe Phill, less work for Nadella.
Writing this post I realized why people inside MS believe Phill Spencer's nonsense, it is easier... It is less work for everyone inside MS to believe Phill.
Xbox is kind of a paradox, the reason it still exists today is the same reason that makes it always a failure.

$240 annually = free? I think the idea is converting the large portion of casuals that normally only buy a game or two per year, into regular subscribers. This would extract more revenue than what would be possible trying to sell them games the traditional way.

Problem for Xbox is it took until 2025 to really be able to push that value proposition. They have an uphill battle, but if they can continue their recent release cadence, then I think they can eventually change the conversation around GamePass. That's a big IF though. I'll believe it when I see it. I will admit though, for the first time in a long while, GamePass is looking attractive.
I agree gp lookin amazing rn but it took nearly 5yrs in to start pumpin the games out & most ppl are comfortable with what ecosystem their in with ms understanding that there wont be a huge market shift in the console space they releasing games on nintendo & playstation its gonna be hard to sell an xbox

Release physical games for $90 that have no game code on the disc.

Encourage everyone to get Gamepass when it is "only" $10-$20 per month.

Increase the price when a critical mass have joined the service.

Start charging more for multiplayer, save slots, 4K, etc.

Have the AAA industry finally crash from your hubris, just like Netflix killed the American movie industry.

I'd say another factor is that there are lots of people who work on games but don't have an input on platform strategy. So the people Dring is talking to might not be the people who decide if a game comes to Xbox or not.

Honestly I thought the same thing but just didn't bother bringing it up. I'm sure tons of devs thing the idea is stupid and don't know why the port to Xbox. Devs aren't the ones making these decisions most of the time though.

I don't get it. Are PC's now becoming Xbox? How will that work? The Xbox interface integrated into Windows? And if so, why would I use that instead of just using Steam?

I saw this thread title and sighed.

It's such a shame it has worked out like this. Consoles need strong competition, Sony needs to be kept competitive by a strong Xbox.

Such a shame.

You will just use steam. Xbots on gp will just continue to sub. Remember most pc gamers don't buy new games due to the cost so msft pushes folks into gp unless they use their rumored store as a weapon aka discounted games via keys vs 80 usd titles.
