I would like to place value in the gaming media, but no, I largely haven't in a long time.Do you place value in gaming media? I don't. Do you think the industry operates from a place of integrity? I don't. Reddit? Toxic group think at its finest.
I prefer to make up my own mind on issues and even if the gaming media and the industry are celebrating the assassination of a person whose values they don't agree with - I'll just keep formulating my own opinions. As for the "authoritarian" moderation, yes, that's a thing and why a person can choose not to frequent places that will only reward or tolerate them for violent rhetoric. I understand the causes but these are adults we are talking about, not poor lost little lambs. They choose to frequent these places, they choose to sacrifice their compassion and integrity to 'fit in', and therefore I choose to not frequent those places or sugarcoat what they represent.
Part of the reason things have become as bad as they are is that reasonable people have been asked to tolerate the intolerable for years now. It took this garish celebration of political violence to finally shake people out of it. That's a good thing and I hope to see more of it.
Largely, though, I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just saying that the toxicity unfortunately exists outside of just the aforementioned other sites.
