People are already accusing Sony of faking the pre-order chart. lol

There's not even need to do that when the competition is NASCAR, NBA and a Sonic kart game. Of course Yotei will be the most pre-ordered. Also, it's riding on the success of Tsushima, it physiological. They'll feel the consequences of their choices only with the third game, this is how it works. People will buy this because of Tsushima, but if this game disappoints them, they won't buy part three.

As for the boycott, it will be felt, but not enough to change Yotei's place in the charts.

BTW, that Piscatella is not a neutral actor though. I remember when through "creative reporting" he tried to imply that Stellar Blade wasn't selling that good.

I also found his tweets on bluesky of him "dunking on the chuds".

ProbablyMonsters is the latest studio to fire someone for posting about Charlie Kirk

Storm Lancers developer ProbablyMonsters has seemingly fired its global marketing manager, Light Humphreys, for publishing a series of posts commenting on the killing of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.

Article:
In a sequence of remarks published on Meta-owned social media platform Threads, Humphreys appeared to criticize Kirk and joke about his killing. Screenshots of those posts were then circulated on X (formerly Twitter) by a number of right-wing accounts.

"Charlie Kirk's epitaph should read 'Worth it for the second amendment,'" reads one post visible in a screenshot.

"What if Charlie wasn't killed for his beliefs and it was like his scorned gay lover or something? All I'm saying is we're jumping to conclusions here," adds another.

Humphreys described himself as a "Global Marketer @ ProbablyMonsters" on his Threads account, which looks to have been deleted alongside his Instagram profile.

Just days after screenshots of Humphreys' posts were shared on X, ProbablyMonsters confirmed it ousted an employee due to comments made on social media in relation to Kirk that violated its social media policy.

The company did not mention Humphreys by name.

"Respect is one of our core values. Comments recently made by a former employee about Charlie Kirk's death were offensive and violated our social media policy. We do not tolerate this behavior, and the individual is no longer with the company," said the company on X.

It's ahead of EA Sports FC, Battlefield 6, and Silent Hill f in the United States. EA Sports FC 25 was the 8th best-selling game on the PlayStation 5 last year, so the fact that it's tracking above it in the United States is a good sign.

He just likes to pick on the low hanging fruit and pretend that is representative of the predominant sentiment.

You know the wacky emotional types. Hey look at me!!! Got to tell the world everything about them. Even their job is worth risking. Hardcore nut balls always willing to go down with the ship.

What you fail to understand is the American Culture, I lived in the UK for several years so I understand yours. You listen to what he says and in your mind you relate it to your country, because that's all you know. Of course in UK and where I'm from Australia, this would not work because our countries have a completely different culture. The problem is people like yourself having the Dunning-Kruger effect. If you don't know what that is, look it up. Social media is a cancer because of this, filled with baseless opinions and ideology that is essentially made up.

I've watched Crocodile Dundee and Quigley Down Under several times so I'm an expert on your culture.

Now, I'm a cynical semi-alcoholic ageing Brit, but I'm not entirely convinced that cunt at suckerpunch was actually fired. First off, she never said she was and didn't drop any of her fellow devs in the shit in a vengeance fill posting spree and secondly the language from the unattributed Sony source and the suckerpunch guy in the interview was shall we say less than straightforward and set off my spidy senses. When asked if someone was fired not saying yes but saying 'no longer an employee' is the kind of weasel wording that makes me think they gave the bitch a freelance contract so she didn't drop any other devs at the studio in the shit but lets them pretend she's gone without actually officially saying so.

Not that we are ever likely to know. It's not like we have any actual journalists in gaming that would look into this kinda stuff. They all share the same worldview as the devs.

I think it's common sense that employers don't want to employ crazy psychopaths who celebrate, make fun or wish other people getting murdered just because they have different political or religious views. And I also think it's normal that their coworkers don't feel safe having these monsters next to them.

It's time to end this nonsense and stop giving these crazy assholes a free pass.

There's not even need to do that when the competition is
The competition are all the games in PSN with preorders open. Which includes many top sellers.

Yes, there is evidence that four or five people, from an organization employing over 15K people, wanted Charlie Kirk dead.
Where is the evidence that the organization itself has radical views on anything? Because none of their actual, corporate decisions reflect any sort of radical leftist attitude. Heck, it's quite literally the opposite:
Yes, that Jim Ryan message shows they have common sense and ethics, like any other decent people wants their coworkers to respect each other political and religious views, instead of being a stupid squareminded sheeps that can't think for themselves and parrot the dogmas from their side they see in tv on whatever topic, and think that everybody else in their company that has dozens of thousand sof workers and stockholders, plus over a hundred million customers must agree 100% with whatever their dumb own personal ideas are.

Big corporations, specially the ones listed in the stock market, should stay away from politics, religion, activism and any other potentially polarizing and divisive stuff for their own good and to be respectful with their coworkers, investors and customers.

And I say that as somebody being in this specific case pro freedom to decide abortion and decided to have one with a former partner because we didn't want to have a kid.

Sucker Punch will not get another dime from me . They are chasing the "modern audience " so it is not made for me.

Ewwww, politics and acknowledgment of said politics in gaming. Gross. Delete this post and move on with your life, this kind of publicity is stupid and you should be ashamed to post it.

Post real politics, like when America and Russia go to war instead of this dredgery shit.

Before y'all put words in my mouth. I'm saying the dude didn't deserve to die, but his platform and he as a person was stupid. Just like you do everyone else that tries to rustle their nose in politics. It's a tit-for-tat game where no one wins and anyone that believes they do is gonna have the worst, no lube pinning. Also be ready for the NRA to be censored and your guns to be taken.

She said cost not costs. Sony confirmed she's been fired. The guy from the interview confirmed she was fired. Stop drinking.

Yotei will be definitely be hurt by this. We've seen how little controversy it takes to make a dent. You can look at Assassins Creed Shadows, a game the seemingly sold a shit ton, but it still had Ubisoft changing their strategy and reorganizing.

Ubisoft were in a much worse position, but it's a good example of how not all publicity is good for your bottomline. But it's still going to top charts. I was in Utah during the assassination, and I heard maybe 2 people mention it in the days I was there afterwards. Not all people are online. And apparently people barely give a shit about what is going on 2 hours away. The sales aren't totally destoryed, but it will be enough for Sony to feel it. Spider-Man 2 is also a good example of how bloated their budgets apparently have gotten, even when they are making sequels to games with most of it's assets already available.

Ubisoft was reorganizing whether Shadows flopped or not. Their problems were larger than one game. Time will tell on Yotei, but I seriously doubt it will be affected. Sony fired the dev immediately and, for most, I think that is good enough.

This is another Hogwarts/Cyberpunk but for the opposite side. It was never really going to be boycotted in numbers which would prevent it being a huge success. But that's not the aim of a boycott, that is just a byproduct of scale.

If you boycott, it's to appease your own principles. Just because the game doesn't flop or hugely underperform won't render your actions pointless (to you).

I agree with Topher, the studio took action and removed this person from their employ. While there are no doubt others who feel the same working with them, they did not take to social media and share insensitive shit. And they are probably a tiny minority of the nerds, programmers, audio techs, tool designers in the studio.

As for the others who 'liked' the tweet then yeah also arseholes, but I think it then begins to get into really murky territory about culpability etc.

I do think a number of people have been down on this game since it was first shown and were hoping for a big moment with the refusal to buy......

There are tons of games coming out yet this year. You do not need to buy every dang one. Some of you are addicts. Thinking that SuckerPunch today is the same studio with the same people who made Tsushima 5 years ago, you are kidding yourselves. A lot has happened and changed in the last 5 years. This is more like the Bud Lite situation, where you have a ton of alternatives, and you can easily pass on a game. In the end, those who do buy the game, will likely find that it is a subpar sequel not worth the price. Nothing about the game has indicated that it is better than Tsushima.

Celebrating the murder of a political opposition is like the "dark age" burning and killing political nonconformists era.

EA happy GoY is getting all the attention. The senior developer in questoion also worked on everybody's favorite Dragon Age game. Censoring people on Steam is kind of wild.

I agree with every single word. Both her statement and Sony's are open to interpretation. How can people don't see it? If Sony actually, properly, fired her they would have said it clearly, why waste the opportunity to build goodwill with customers?

'I think we're aligned as a studio that celebrating or making light of someone's murder is a deal-breaker for us, and we condemn that, kind of in no uncertain terms. That's sort of our studio, and that's kind of where we are.'...

jeez! tepid & mealy-mouthed to the end...

I feel like it's unavoidable that the mentality of the people in the studio also leaks into their games in one way or another. Makes you wonder what goes on behind the walls when no one is listening. Had the leadership made a strong statement from the beginning in addition to the firing I would have felt like there wasn't a rot in SP's culture.

Yeah, I could see on one of this weeks eps of Klepek & co's. shitcast that the description read something that totally came across as bitching about the NFL "trying to make everyone feel bad about Charlie Kirk."

The sooner these shitdicks become irrelevant and all of their blue haired disability Patreon money dries up, the better off the planet will be.

Formerly relevant guys.

Tumbleweeds blowing through their YouTube channel. I used to love GB too but these guys fell off miserably.

An over reaction? It blows my mind that we are at the point where supporting, encouraging, or calling for political violence and assassinations is deemed acceptable by such a large portion of the population. Name and shame them all until the violence stops. Use freedom of speech against them instead of violence.

Some people will excuse any behavior if it advances their ideology.

Is there any games podcast worth listening to anymore? I just want a recommendation where they talk about games, not this weeks hot activism topic.

Why is it surprising? Boycotts do not do anything.

Assassins Creed Shadows is one of the best selling games this year.

Insert Modern Warfare 2 Steam boycott screenshot here.

Yes they will. And we are at the point where the eye aren't hiding it anymore and getting upset when called out or face repercussion. Anyone openly supporting terrorism deserves to be fired from their jobs IMO. I'll selectively boycott these developers that support this violence. They won't get my money.
