The Whitewalkers are definitely micromanaging wights like an RTS game. The way the Four Horsemen stand always from above indicates this. Testing the ice was definitely a Whitewalker's strategy.

No one has mentioned that the wights seem less like zombies and more like rotting normal soldiers. some unsettling examples of intelligence were this dude quite literally watching his steps to make sure he wasn't cracking the ice goading the others to do the same:
and they seemed to genuinely be trying to rescue the captured wight.
There's still so little we know about them.
Not necessarily intelligence, they could be controlled by the white walkers.

We also learned this episode that the WW's control the wights, as Jon killed one and all the wights with him crumbled.
So there is definitely more to it than mindless kill kill kill. Otherwise they wouldn't have stopped when the ice broke in the first place.
Dany is better than she used to be but she's still not much better than a plank of wood. Phenomenally bad maybe.

If it turns out to be a "lol jk" to teach Sansa to be more clever or get one in over Littlefinger, that'd be such a copout, longwinded, roundabout way to draw out a plot thread.

I agree. The fast traveling is killing the story for me. I know it's a race to the finish but dang.
They always got on so well and you'd think they'd be even closer now that Arya has become an unrepentant mass murderer.

I blame the actress. She's just not very good. Her roles outside of GoT have been equally poorly performed. She just doesn't have the talent for such a powerful role.

This is where people really need to cut DnD some slack. GRRM had 10 years to finish and catch up and he didn't. What they're working with is scraps of information and an extremely convoluted story they have to try and piece together. It's probably why GRRM hasn't finished the books because he can't even piece the shit together himself and hes the mastermind behind it all.

I think yall are giving the NK too much credit if yall think he knew Dany was gonna come to save the guys. I think more than anything he was just waiting to see what they would do and lucked out with dany and the dragons showing up.

This might be my biggest problem with the directing of this episode. Compare the NK having zero entrance in this episode beyond Beric saying "hey maybe we could kill him" and cutting to this:

Even after sleeping it off, I still cant believe what a stupid ass episode that was. Ugh. The finale is gonna have all sorts of fuckery.
I especially hated the Sansa / Arya forced drama. Maybe Arya is playing 12D chess but the Waif storyline also ended stupidly so I dont have any hopes of this one to be something clever.

100% agreed, that's what I was trying to say. They have like a few months to write these screen plays, meaning they are probably using notes and ideas that havnt been fleshed out by GRRM or likely to even make their way into a final version of said books.
I wonder if GRRM will use the shows triumps and failings to influence his writing.

It's just another rendition of Dany's theme. Doubt it's released yet but you can essentially listen to any of the other 15 versions and that should be good enough.
Season 7 soundtrack isn't out till next month, so no.

I don't think either of them will kill each other. Eventually they'll learn the truth and take LF down. But if it turns out to be a ploy within a ploy within a ploy where they put on a work in private just in case LF is spying on them, then that feels like cheap writing.

It's probably in GRRM's best interest to go a different route if he wants to sell more books. Unless the show ends with on a great note that's tough to top.

This is what I don't get. You know where Cersei hides, you know where her armies are. Destroy them. The world of Westeros won't miss them. Dany can sjut fly into Kings Land, rip the roof off the throne room, and take a seat on the Iron Throne. Who's gonna stop her and her now, 2 dragons, her army and Jon Snow?

I liked the episode it was not the best but far from the worst. It's a fantasy series I don't have to take everything too serious. Yes every character can now teleport but who cares let me see dragons fight zombies and let me see Jon and Daenerys as much as possible.
The only really stupid scene was Benjens death scene. So random that all of a sudden he's there to rescue Jon and dies after one sentence. Why not have one Dragon rescue Jon.
I just hope we don't get some stupid cliffhanger next week where everything gets leaked anyway before next season like with Jon Snows resurrection.

That was poor directing indeed. The last minute of Hardhome was a freaking stare down with the tension at 150%. No one gave the wights a second look

The pacing's gotten really really weird the last few episodes. Plot armour complaints aside they're stretching the "scene position doesn't imply chronological position" rule really hard now.

D&D started developing the show thinking they would adapt the book series, not that they would carry on by their own sometime in the future without any source material to work with. These aren't their characters, their stories or their world. It's really an unfair situation they've found themselves to be in.
That doesn't mean we can't criticize what they're doing of course. I think they're doing the best they possibly can all things considered, and if nothing else the show remains entertaining.
Not to mention the credits without music. It made for an extremely eerie ending to the episode. The Night King was intimidating at one point.

I didn't see much of a problem with the pace of the episode. It seemed to me like the whole excursion north of the wall took about two days or so. I don't think that seemed unrealistic. Maybe the travel time of the raven was a little quick, but the dragons could certainly cover huge distances given their size.
Also, what about the preview from next week? It looked like Jamie was stumbling out of a boat looking very upset / injured. You could also see a conflict over a castle involving Jamie. I'm guess Cersci refuses the offer from Danerys? Maybe Cersci is killed? Which is why Jamie looks so upset.

They aren't and thats the point. What was the point in compressing all the episodes? Everyone's zipping through Westeros like its a small tiny location. The dumb Raven>Dany idea? Even a basic fan understands now that NK is the sworn enemy of Bran/3ER. Why the hell did Bran sit this one out? Why is NK's spear throws taking so long? Some just amateur stuff was going on this episode.

I've never thought much of D&D as writers so I do believe this is the best they can do without having anything to work with lol.
They've cut short the two final seasons precisely because there are no more books.
Is this a meme or something now? I mean we know who the NK is or atleast we've seen him as a human.
