I don't know how long the timeline is from the start of the series until it ends (NOT LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER) but I'd have to think if Arya does go the revenge route doesn't she have that coin she got from Jaquen?

I'm a bit hazy on it but didn't he pretty much say she can take that and join whatever group he's a part of to learn the dark arts or something like that? If I were her I'd be taking him up on his offer.

that would be cool. isn't bravoos in esteros, where dany is? i wonder if they run into each other, then. i'll love to see a dany/arya ass kicking combo burn all of westeros to the ground.

Just finished watching the episode.

What... the... fuck?

I cannot think of another comparably brutal hour of television. For me, a sense of dread kicked in as Cat's nephew and his almost wife were dragged away, somehow before anything bad had really happened. Things only escalated, horribly, from there. It actually took a bit of conscious effort for me not to turn away.

Seeing Talisa repeatedly stabbed was awful. Rob's reaction to everything was perfect in the saddest of ways: acknowledgment of what was going on, letting go, shock permeating throughout. Cat's last ditch attempt to save her child, followed by bottomless suffering, and then death...

Roose Bolton is officially my most hated character. Walder Frey is close, but there's something about Bolton and how eager he was to betray Rob and then essentially spit in his face as he died that seriously annoys.

Bran, Arya, Rickon, Jon, and Sansa are really all that's left, then? Jesus.

Edmure is Catelyn's brother.

I think the only dude imune to death is the fat crow that can kill white walkers. He is that typical oblivious guy that lucks out every time and none cares about him.

Like someone said at the wedding: " the gods loves to reward fools"

CHAOS ISN’T A PIT. CHAOS IS A LADDER. MANY WHO TRY TO CLIMB IT FAIL AND NEVER GET TO TRY AGAIN. THE FALL BREAKS THEM. AND SOME ARE GIVEN A CHANCE TO CLIMB, THEY CLING TO THE REALM OR THE GODS OR LOVE. ONLY THE LADDER IS REAL. THE CLIMB IS ALL THERE IS.

This pretty much foreshadows this episode as well. I'm sure we'll be able to reference this more and more as the show goes on.

I can't hate him entirely due to DAT voice.

I've learned to just spectate and not really root for anyone because fuck getting involved with any one character. It just means someone is going to rip his heart out and feed it to you. And well it is true with fiction that when everything seems to be going rosey, someone's about to suffer greatly.

Hey, at least it can't get any worse for the Starks from here on, can it? /trollface

Posting it again, just because it's so awesome and makes the memory of last night even more intense:

The Rains of Castemere

"And who are you, the proud lord said,
that I must bow so low?
Only a cat of a different coat,
that's all the truth I know.
In a coat of gold or a coat of red,
a lion still has claws,
And mine are long and sharp, my lord,
as long and sharp as yours.
And so he spoke, and so he spoke,
that lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o'er his hall,
with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall,
and not a soul to hear."

Gives me goosebumps and makes me tear up hearing it now. Gosh..

Edmure is Catelyn's brother.

Whoops. Yeah, that's right.

Speaking of, I imagine he's dead now. The one person I can see being alive still is Blackfish. He was still out finding a tree to piss on, right? I doubt it was a coincidence that he happened to step out before the slaughter began - perhaps he still has stuff to do.

Along with the bride and groom a lot of candles were taken out of the room. It completely changed the lighting of the scene, setting the tone for what was to come.

Perfect television.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I think they did a terrific job with everything. Angles, light, mood, camera, acting, music (or lack thereof)..I am going to be absolutely pissed if that one episode and main characters on it weren't walking away with some grammys.

Any Berserk fans in the house? Never thought I'd put something on the same level of shock as the Eclipse but this was right up there. Just so relentless and uncompromising.

Why didn't Frey showcase his hot daughter in season one when Robb made that promise? I doubt he would've broken that oath, especially when Cat came out and hinted that they were all ugly.

Remember last season when Joffrey ordered to kill those babies? Such sweet, innocent times.

Because he had no reason to marry away his best looking daughter when Robb had sworn an oath. He married away the good looking one to Edmure just to give the big FU to Robb.

There's nothing wrong with that. He's remained loyal and has shown cunning and intelligence (even though he didn't commit to the ruse by killing that guy).

Also, there are plenty of Starks left alive.

I like Jon but he's very soft. He couldn't kill Ygritte and he couldn't kill the horse breeder. You gotta be able to play the game if you want to survive. Its been the downfall of the Starks.

I totally sympathise with Cat (RIP) in that I want to love Jon Snow but I just can't bring myself to do it.

He's just... that guy, you know, kind of boring and predictable. If I had to describe him without saying what he does I'm not sure I could. He's just... there.

The Eclipse didn't affect me nearly as much - probably because it was already sort of obvious that it would happen (if you read the manga; I think the anime skips the first couple volumes). Also, Berserk wallows in darkness, to the point where you become numb to it after a while.

But Berserk is definitely in the same vein as SoIaF. I dare say that anybody who thinks Game of Thrones is nifty, but wishes it were darker and even more nihilistic, would enjoy Berserk as well.

It funny that Cat hated him yet he was the most similar to Ned.

Even after all that bloodshed, I was holding out hope that like most standard TV shows Catelyn would be taken hostage or something.

He fucked and dumped (pretty much) that Wildling girl, learnt Mance Rayder's invasion plans and also has a good idea of how many men, giants and god knows what else Ryder is commanding.

He basically did what Benjen Stark failed to do (maybe that guy will reappear in the future) and will likely end up doing a lot more.

No, i refuse to like Jon Snow.

The destiny of the Stark family rests now on Arya's shoulders.
Bran could also develop into a cool character, admittedly.

EDIT: Ok, Jon in this episode was alright, but i can't stand that actor's dead delivery.

Thats because they're still telling his story. Sansa is just there, as are Bran, Arya and Rickon. All their stories are still being told. I'm sure we'll found out where its heading.

Just watched the episode again and man, you can imagine every Walder Frey line being a hint at the devastation that is about to occur.

Strangely I cried watching this time, and not the first time. I think I was in such shock the first time.

I will also go on record saying that was the best scene I have ever watched in anything. I think that scene will be looked on for years to come as like, the pinnacle of television.

Fat lot of good that'll do him, after he discovers Mormont's (and most of the rest of the Watch's) fate.

Oh, and whatever happened to that assholio ball-busting combat trainer?

Because he had no reason to marry away his best looking daughter when Robb had sworn an oath. He married away the good looking one to Edmure just to give the big FU to Robb.

I'm pretty sure the deal included Robb being able to choose his own wife from Frey's daughters.

Jon Snow is very cunning, and has to be destined for greatness.

This is what I'm beginning to sense as well. After his latest stunt and the fact that he is a bastard child he might not be as predisposed to the "honor" that got most of the Starks killed. Hopefully this will make him a better player of the "game" going forward.

Walder Frey is a through and through shitbird (and he showed it in spades). What guarantee would Robb have had that Argus Filch wouldn't have pulled an "Oops, forgot about her, trololololo" right after Robb getting wed to an uglier Frey girl. He seems precisely the type to do this, keeping his most prized possession for some other occasion.

He might still be at Castle Black.
I would say that's not exactly great news for Jon. He and Thorne had some 'creative differences'.

Just saw it. Jaw is still on the floor. God DAMN. I'm kinda saddened because I'll miss those that bought it, but at the same time, I perversely love it because.. well, thats Game of Thrones and how it rolls.

You heartless, foul, magnificent bastard, Martin

From Sepinwall's review:

the number of people on Twitter earlier this evening either telling me they expected me to be emotional after watching or saying they couldn't bear to watch would have been a big tip-off that one or many major deaths were coming. And as the episode progressed, it became clear to me just how many people were likely to die in these specific circumstances.

What is wrong with these people? Just can't help themselves can they.

My girlfriend was more pissed off at Jon for dumping the girl than because of the events of the wedding.

Mostly because she couldn't even begin to process all that.

This the show has been the best I've watched ever. I can't think of anything else that comes close to the emotions it brings up. Shit not even any movies have this type of impact on me.

Sean Bean is so cursed to to die in fiction that Ned Stark died TWICE.

I swear Has boy Bean acted in any fucking movie/show he has not died in... ;/
lol It's like he wont do it unless he dies at the end..
Not counting National stupid Treasure they couldn't hit anyone with bullets in that movie..

HOLY FUCK.

I had a feeling something big was going to go down given the number of tossbags who have been dropping spoilers in this thread all week (thank god I missed them all) but I didn't expect shit to go down like that. I mean..... GRRM must REALLY hate the Stark family.

In an unexpected twist, he's one of the few members of the cast of the first Silent Hill movie to NOT die.

I had absolutely no idea this was coming. I kept seeing this thread at the top of my subscriptions the past couple of days which I expected, and episode 9's are usually good. So I was expecting something. But this? Good god.
