Game of Thrones *NO BOOK SPOILERS* |OT| Season 3 - Sundays on HBO [Read the OP]

Robb's alliances are loosely formed with a single purpose. They're all built on honor and this single purpose of killing Joffrey.

However, Robb has been distracted from that purpose, his mother betrayed the alliance and he betrayed his honor to the alliance by marrying the nurse. The foundation of the alliance has been shaken and this is clear in the dialogue between his council and him. You can see the tension being played out.

Tywin pays for his loyalty. He can take losses but his council still gets paid and he clearly has a history of no-tolerance for disobeying where as Robb is much more "buddy buddy."

Gleeson has been blessed with the face of a total dipshit.

I hope he gets to play nicer roles once GoT ends. Apparently he's a sweet and well mannered boy, but he oozes asshole as Joffrey.

One of the best TV villains ever.

I think last he participated in a show for the benefit of AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL. He's a good guy, I hope some people don't give him crap because of a character he plays on TV.

And yes, he plays it amazingly.

I know Theon's dad is kind of a dick, but I don't think pulling his son's fingers and nailing his feet is a proper way to lay the foundations for an alliance.

Just saying.

Good point, but besides his father not exactly loving him, he and especially the Boltons have to assume treason in this scenario because Theon went against their plan.

Also notice how they use very painful, effective torture methods, that at the same time only give very minor, temporary injuries. They definitely want him alive and "well".
However, that could of course just be for possible negotiations in the future.

What was The Iron Islands original plan again?

To declare themselves independent, with the Greyjoys once again kings of the Iron Isles.

And to take advantage of Robb's bannermen and army being in the south, pillaging the north lands western coasts.

EDIT: They tried independence before, after Robert took the throne from the Mad King, but a force led by Ned Stark crushed it, killing both of Theon's older brothers and taking Theon hostage to keep Greyjoy from making any more moves. Thus the animosity towards the Starks, which Theon didn't initially share because he was so young and the Starks treated him more like a son than a hostage. Theon's father on the other hand (whose name escapes me) has not forgotten and turned against the Starks the second Theon was out of Robb's control.

If you remember, Theon was trying to convince his father to align with Robb at first. But his father would have none of it.

If I recall correctly, it was to declare independence, but I can't remember if it was anything else.

Thanks.

Also, I was just looking at the map on HBO's site, and it might have inadvertently spoiled something minor:
Roos Bolton's keep is highlighted, but I'm not sure if the show ever told us where exactly they live, or visited that location outside of possibly being where Theon is being held. It's pretty close to Winterfell too.

The whole Theon turning on Robb came about quickly.

One thing the show doesn't do well is show time passing. Had Theon been under pressure from him dad/sister to turn on Robb for a month or 2, it'd make sense but the show makes it seem like he flipped in a day or so.

The Bastard of Bolton was there when Theon took Winterfell. That's why Roose said that his bastard could go and take care of things instead of Robb marching back up North.

One way to solve this would be to massively increase the size of someone's beard. So if a few months has passed, then Theon's beard/facial hair should be huge and bushy. Would make for a more entertaining show as well!

It's what I would call "The ROTS Anakin" effect. Turning from "good" to "bad" with a few sentences thrown at you.

It doesn't take much for a child that want to be loved by his father or mother

His name is Balon Greyjoy.

In addition, Theon saw that his father was ready to name Yara his heir instead of Theon. Given that the Greyjoys are fighting for independence, that inheritance comes with the title of King of the Iron Islands. Theon was put in a position where his crown was on the line.

I just had a look and yeah:
It's called The Dreadfort and under the description it says "have been known to skin their enemies alive." This does not give me good vibes...

I know, what I'm saying is
the map on their site might have just inadvertently confirmed the speculation going on in this thread about where Theon might be getting tortured. I'm sure they'll reveal it next week, but I thought they only highlighted places the show has actually visited, and they never specifically mentioned they were at Bolton's Keep

If anyone wants any spoilers about beards and how bushy they get, then feel free to PM me as well. :)

Also yes, Jaime Lannister can pull off a nice beard. I would expect Davos to be able to as well, and it looks like Stannis is rocking a bit of facial hair as well now, this season. Who is next, Bran?

Seriously dude, are you feeling the need to be banned? Don't post anything about the books here, juicy beard details aside.
I didn't feel it was book spoilers and I removed it. There were no details at all. Just pretty much what was in the tv episode that has already aired.

Sorry if that pissed someone off.

I'll quickly leave. Even though I didn't post any spoilers my post was meant for the other thread anyway. My bad.

edit: from OP: ABSOLUTELY NO BOOK SPOILERS. It doesn't matter if they're under spoiler tags, they should not be in this thread. Use the other thread for book-related television discussion. This includes alluding to things, subtle hinting, comparing the books to the show, etc...

Nothing broke that

Ummm guys, read the OP again:

Anything that hasn't aired yet should be spoiler tagged including information from HBO previews, loglines, trailers, interviews, and a few other places.

Those black bars are show-related, not book-related... relax already, Jesus.

Since we have other threads for the show specifically for people who have read the series, I'd like to ask that they refrain from posting in this thread. I don't believe anybody has been deliberately posting spoilers under the guise of working things out, but it can be easy to forget where you learned a specific bit of information, especially if you read it a long time ago or started reading just after you got into the series. Then again, maybe some people are doing it deliberately. Please be considerate.

Mine aren't book spoilers btw, just more speculation based on the map HBO provides for non book readers. The map that is updated along with the show(I assume). I was safe and put it under spoilers just in case.

I found it a little weird how the Hound just blurted out that Arya is a Stark. Guess he just likes Sansa and not all Starks.

For reference I've subscribed to this thread and will try to moderate it as best I can, but I do sleep and get busy, so if I miss something obvious or somebody is acting up and I don't notice, feel free to PM me about it.
