YESSSS they NAILED IT! I've been waiting for this since last season... YES!
How did you know this scene would happen last season?

A man who climbed the ranks through talent instead of position.
This is from either the BR set or HBO's site, I can't remember:IIRC Valyria (and I'm guessing much of Essos) got trashed by some worldwide event that changed the entire planet's temperature/seasons. The Targaryen and their dragons moved to Westeros after that.
It doesn't, it's more like an observation of his life. He's been pampered through his entire life, so his current predicament is kind of shocking to him. Now even more so.Why does that matter? He most definitely had the talent to rise, why do you think he became a Kingsguard at the age of 16 (or something).
Tywin is all boss. I've only read the first book, so I mostly know him from the show, but I absolutely love the character. Charles Dance is such a regal bastard. It's weird, having only read two of the books Tywin in the HBO series is largely my favorite character. I was kind of hoping he would apprentice Arya a bit more (since he is disappointed in his own kids).
IIRC it spread as a rumour at the start of the war. Remember the allegations at King's Landing during S2? If that's a deviation, it doesn't bother me at all.The fact that Locke knows about Cersei and Jaime really bothers me. It really shows how superficially the writers are treating the source material.

There's source material?

Because he read the books obviously.

He was a great swordman, but that doesn't mean he was a great soldier.
Fake edit: Although now I remember that he cut a good number of Northmen before he was captured by Robb's men.
I know, I'm just calling out these people since its so pathetic for them to post in this thread.
I like this thread better, since the other thread is nothing but book comparisons. This is better for actual show discussion.
If you look at the description of Valyria on the HBO map, (spoiler simply since it's on the HBO website but not been discussed in the actual series as far as I can remember)it says "the ancient city was destroyed centuries ago," so presumably it's nothing but a ruin.

Yeah, I'm sure it's mostly ruins, but there's probably someone living there. And she could probably find some cool old relics and history shit.
I dunno, it just seems odd to me that she claims this really great ancestry and yells about Old Valyria every time someone asks, but she wouldn't hop over and see how old Valyria actually is for a bit.
Yup. It's like modern-day gossip. Saying "Joffrey is Robert's Son" is like saying "*insert pop star here* is in the hospital for exhaustion." Some will buy it, some won't.Last season, Stannis did send letters to everyone in the seven kingdoms spreading what had been found.
The place has probably been sacked so many times there's only rubble. Also, crossing the desert for funsies doesn't seem like a very smart enterprise at this moment.
Goddamn, I was really starting to like the Brotherhood without Banners, then it turns out they're Lord of Light loonies.I really don't like Melisandre, her voice just grates.
And a question, Littlefinger is going to the Eyrie (was that the place). Is that the same place where Catelyn's weird sister lives? The breastfeeding lady? I think it is, but I haven't watched season 1 since it aired and couldn't remember her name. :S
You are correct about the Eyrie. Also, I totally agree with you about the brotherhood. Thoros is awesome but when Beric came out and sounded a little nutty I was like "aww maaaaaan"
I'm glad Arya explained why she didn't like the Hound.
I had honestly forgetton about that after season 2, so I was confused about why she wanted him dead when she was chanting the names in season 2. Completely forgot about the butcher boy.
Not sacked. The Viewers Guide says that it was destroyed by the Doom. And Quaithe (the masked chick) was painting tattoos on some sailor in S2 as a safeguard against sailing near it.
Beric is eyepatch man, right? He's obviously crazy as he thinks he is going to win against the Hound. He will rip him in two. The stuff he did last season while protecting Sansa was awesome!
I still don't remember.
It was in like episode 2-3 in the first season. Arya is play fighting with this kid (butcher's boy) and then Joffery comes and starts being his usual awful self. Then Arya's wolf bites him and the kid runs away.
The Hound went to catch him but he kept running so the Hound just ran him over and killed him.
My current prediction is that she'll lose most of her army in short order, then be forced to find a new plan. Again. Dragons breathe fire, and the zombie-like enemies (not sure if walkers or something else) seem vulnerable to fire, so Dany is basically a hard-counter to the threat from the North. I suppose it's possible that she and her dragons will die before being able to get used in this fashion, but I've been predicting a Dragon v White Walker showdown since Season 1.
I don't understand the reason behind why that guy hoodwinked Theon. Did his initial plan backfire so he had to bring him back or is he just a sick fuck?

PREVIEW SPOILERS:He sets his sword on fire. I sense fun times for the Hound...
Thanks for "calling out" my spontaneously happy reaction that I wanted to share, pal. I didn't say anything about the books. Obviously I would never discuss any plot stuff in this thread.
And finally... Khaleesi! What a wonderful scene. I knew this was coming from a mile away, but they still pulled it with high marks. Emilia owned the shit out of her character. Also, I didn't expect the slave trader to speak in Valyrian. I thought that just be another language that Dany could have learned during her long exhile, but it ended up being even better. Drakaris, motherfuckers.
So much hostility towards book readersSome of us just like reading this thread because it's way more fun to see people discussing about what's going to happen than reading "omg they merged two unimportant characters into a main one! how do they dare!!!?" over and over.
Not all of us who read this thread are like "Hey guys, you know, I have a feeling Ned Stark is gonna die. And call me crazy but I think Daenerys is going to burn that witch and bring dragons back to the world. Also how crazy would it be if Renly got killed by a witch working under his previously unseen brother?"
Think his smile said it all, there's a gif of it here somewhere. Hes a great actor, from Misfits too.
It's because book readers, whether they mean to or not, drop subtle hints about upcoming material. So much hostility towards book readersSome of us just like reading this thread because it's way more fun to see people discussing about what's going to happen than reading "omg they merged two unimporta.nt characters into a main one! how do they dare!!!?" over and over.
