That and we know now that Melisandre's power isn't really actively her own power, but the will of the Lord of Light acting through her. That shadow baby served a very specific purpose with very specific people, being King Stannis' "son" birthed to kill his usurping brother Renley. There's no guarantee that it would even be possible for Jon and Ramsay. And I don't see Jon agreeing to have sex with Melisendre in order to birth a demon baby anyways.

It's the same with people saying why didn't Mel try to revive Rickon. It almost assuredly wouldn't be possible to revive Rickon. Jon was chosen by whatever forces are working behind the scenes, it wasn't Mel's ability that brought him back.

I understand why Jon made a dash to save Rickon but it was soooooooo dumb it kind of ruined the battle for me. Sansa just got done saying Rickon was never going to make it through this and Ramsey was going to toy with Jon.

It's basically impossible to hit a dragon with siege engines. Maybe they flew low enough to get hit by arrows, but it's not certain the ships had archers to begin with since they were there to just pummel the city to the ground.

There's nothing wrong with the dash to save Rickon, it's the dash afterward to... Kill the whole army(!?!) that ruins the scene. But I guess they had to had the shot with the horses running toward Jon.

My two issues with that episode are with Sansa.

First off, she gets angry at Jon for not asking for her advice at the war table, why not just speak up you little brat?

Second, was when she told Ramsay her dogs haven't eaten in 7 days. She wasn't there when he said that.

They knew the dragons were there. They picked the fight. Did they think the dragons would just hang out while they waited their turn to die? Did they not expect the dragons to attack them at all? It makes no sense for them to start a fight they have no hope in winning. The whole thing was nonsense.

So what could Sansa's reasons have been for not telling Jon about Littlefinger? I'm thinking it's just because she knew he'd probably screw up her plan somehow, especially since Jon screwed up all of her other suggestions about how to face Ramsey.

As far as they knew two were chained up below the city and one had flown off.

Only one of the dudes had seen the dragons, back when they were the size of dogs. When the low born master showed up the dragons were locked away. When the Sons of the Harpy fought Drogon he picked up Dany and flew away and Dany still wasn't back when they were negotiating the slave trade.

I think they just underestimated the power of or Dany's ability to control the dragons or hoped to attack while Dany was gone, calling Tyrion's bluff. Frankly the battle was basically 90% in the Masters' favor if it weren't for the lizards being unstoppable god weapons against medieval technology. Even the dothraki army would have gotten destroyed by the seaborne catapults.

It wasn't "idiocy", otherwise he wouldn't have saved the day at the Wall, or Hardhome among others.
Now don't get me wrong, he is no tactical genius, but there are far more to his decision to rush mid field than being "an idiot".

First, it's his younger brother. He feels that if there is any chance of saving him at all, it's worth it.

Second, he is a man who in the first place feels he has little to nothing to live for, and is eager to sacrifice himself "for the greater good". For a purpose (cf the attempt on Mance's life).

Last, rushing toward Ramsay's force in an attempt (desperate) to kill Ramsay himself was all they could do anyway. If he could lead the charge and protect Rickon with his own body if need be, that would be a win in his book.

I am somewhat surprised at the number of people on this board who tend to pass out selfless deeds or "heroic" actions with little chances to succeed as stupid, while praising the backstabbing, betraying, conniving and amoral characters to no end frankly.

Wow. That was the best episode of GoT yet, hands down. I was glued to the screen the entire time. The directing was fantastic, that guy needs to direct the rest of the show, he gives it an air of quality that rivals (and in regards to the battle of Winterfell, exceeds) cinema, let alone other high-end TV shows. The shots of Jon facing Ramsay's cavalry, and the one soon after of him fighting in the midst of the battle were incredible. Gave me goosebumps the likes of which not even battle scenes in Braveheart or LoTR did. Honestly breathtaking, my face was aching by the end of it due to how much I was smiling.

And I thought the CGI on Dany riding the dragons improved A LOT! I was both excited and a little worried about the dragon scenes this season because of how bad I thought it looked when Dany was atop Drogon last season, but whatever they did this episode put my worries to rest. The shots of her flying over the Master's fleet were incredible. And I loved how the fire from the dragons was expelled with such force that it ripped the ships apart and caused the water to recede the way it did.

Such an amazing episode, gonna watch it again tonight. 10/10

Probably because this very show has been hammering home that being heroic and selfless usually leads to swift and pointless death.

I think she wasn't even sure he was coming at all, and there's some kind of friction and some amount of distrust between Sansa and Jon still. Remember when Sansa and Littlefinger met, and Littlefinger reminded her that Jon is her half-brother.

Jon is going into this battle because he literally has nothing else to live for at this point, he believes. He's already been killed for what he sees as failing in his mission, and he sees this might be another failure and is almost expecting to die again, and Sansa sees this.

She originally rebuffed Littlefinger's offer because she didn't want his help, and wanted to prove she could do this herself. This is also why she initially keeps it from Jon. She feels ashamed. I think once she sees that Jon is willing to go into a battle prepared to lose, that same ideal takes over when she writes Littlefinger for help. If Jon isn't willing to win, then she's going to prove she can win herself. She's probably still ashamed that she had to ask for Littlefinger's help as well, so it's all kinds of conflicting emotions and reasons. There's the whole "ask for forgiveness rather than permission" kind of thing going on as well, in regards to keeping the whole thing from Jon.

Some seem to be acting like this whole thing with Sansa is an oversight on the part of the show, when I think the intent is that Sansa isn't making the best choices with her actions, just as Jon isn't making the best choices. They are making mistakes and doing frustrating things from the viewer's perspective due to all kinds of conflicting and complicating character flaws coming to the fore. Judging by some snippets from the preview,
that bears out next episode with Jon saying they need to start trusting each other.

So Tyrions story to Dany about the Mad king and wildfire stashed around Kings landing all but confirms that was the rumor they were talking about in episode 8.

He is not smart or tactical. He is foolishly idealistic and thought he could take the risk. Its actually pretty consistent with his character. I think we're learning that he is actually a better fighter than leader. You could see the look on Davos' face when Jon ran in. I doubt he will ever follow Jon into battle again.

Saw the episode for the second time with my mother just now, she was getting so into the fight, usually she's not much for the action scenes. Being that she's the biggest Dany fangirl ever, she got super hyped up for the Dany scene at the start.

She also cheered like I've never seen her cheer when she heard the horns and then saw Little Finger's army charging in.

The thing is, every great drama has dramatic timing, you could apply this same scrutiny to all of your favorite movies or shows.

A lot of great shows/movies would be ruined if we removed all dramatic timing and made everything "realistic".

Even though I'm happy to see the end of Ramsay finally (we all knew it was gonna be his dogs lol).... I sorta wanted Theon to at least get some kicks in. I know in a way he did with freeing Sansa etc causing it all, but some direct kicks would have been nice.

I guess thats his story, not deserving revenge because of the stuff he did or whatever but if they knew where he was they could at least send him a note saying "We'd have sent you Ramsay's cock but it's dog shit by now." :p

I don't think King's Landing is totally destroyed next week. I just don't see them getting rid of it completely. It feels like if any wildfire goes off, all of it would unless Qubyrn had it all moved to under the sept.

I'm calling Cercei killing Tommen. Maybe its not intentional but I think we finally see Cercei lose her shit forever. She is going to go crazy and 'save' her son from the faith.
Collateral damage will be big. I expect Loras to die, maybe another Tyrell.

I think Walder finally bites it but I'm not sure what will become of Jaime.


Teleportation aside, I just really surprised Theon and Yara warned Dany of their Uncle's plan. I just...didn't think she would find out about before he got there. She agree to help kill him so is she just going to spend next season in the same place waiting for Euron to show up and try to trick him for his ships?

He will, Davos fault is that he's too loyal of a man, wouldn't be surprised if that's what kills him.

Well, she did ask Tyrion if it was enough ships now that they had the Iron Fleet + The Master's armada and he tells her that it's probably enough. Now, if I was a hopeful and naive man, I'd say that this means that Dany now has enough ships to sail to Westeros and without The Masters to worry about, Meereen is safe.

I really can't see them waiting on Euron and his fleet.

Two chained and one missing unlikely to come back. Also people forget siege weapons are jsut that, siege weapons. Not made for moving targets and take time to aim.

Also "making sense" is not really the point anyway.
