Game of Thrones Season 8 |OT| A Song of Icy and Fiery Fandom

Well that was something, I guess.

Not near as many people died as I expected and it really feels like the buildup wasn’t worth it.

Curious to see how the rest of it plays out,

Yeah that was unsatisfying. All that and the solution to defeating them was just Arya flying out of nowhere?

I know it’s fantasy but there wasn’t anything remotely clever or surprising about that episode...which is what I loved about game of thrones.

Seems like they really had no ideas this season other than simply advance the plot.

I enjoyed it. Everyone knew the idea was to kill the knight king. I thought it was pretty awesome to have someone else besides Jon do it. No one was expecting that.

I think the dragons were mostly useless and most of that was them just flying around. And not as many deaths of mains as I was expecting.

I thought it was a great episode myself. Really well directed, and Arya pulling a Riddick was hilarious. I was super impressed by the special effects.
It was not well directed. The first 20 minutes were in the dark, you couldn’t see shit. When action actually happened, it was like a Transformers movie, so much shit happening you couldn’t even tell what was happening.

The Night King is basically Thanos in the GOT world.

That's like Thanos dying in act 2 in Infinity War.

The start was brilliant. Reminded me of helms deep but far more intense.

But that's my interested bottomed out. The silent death march of the NK was the only thing keeping me in. That was the finale for me.

Salty.

I felt the darkness helped set the atmosphere, and yeah I did have some complaints here and there about how obscured the action was at times, but I enjoyed watching it.

Not the most creative ending for the Night King, but it was better than expected.

Alt Shift X is in total denial right now and is convinced the Night King isn't really dead. He's laughing uncontrollably about the resolution, probably in place of crying, because of all the prophecies that have been totally discarded here and how contrived the Arya kill is.

As a fellow book reader I can relate, but nah man, this is reality. In the Behind the Episode, D&D talk about how it would be too "obvious" for Jon to do it so they set up Arya by "distracting" the audience to give an unexpected moment.

I realllllyyy hope the books don't end like this. That was basically an hour and change of CGI porn.

I just started listening and I agree, he sounds like he's in denial.

I really enjoyed this episode. It’s clear that the writers viewed this stand against the Night King as all or nothing, which is more logical than any half-victory/loss type scenario. Its placement mid season will definitely irk some people, somewhat deservedly, as Cersei as the main big bad doesn’t have the same Magic-Prophecy-Ultimate-Ending that I imagine Martin will likely end with. I doubt Martin will let things play out this way but that doesn’t mean I disliked this way of doing things, as I view this TV show as a somewhat separate entity and Cersei definitely had more character building for the viewership to hate her than the Night King.

What a load of shit.

Firstly I do def need to watch it again because I bought a new TV a few days ago and I really needed to adjust the settings on my TV because I couldn't really make out any of the detail during the battle which really spoiled it and made it very hard to enjoy.

That being said, it felt like a huge anticlimax. They spent two episodes of this season on mostly fluff and now they kill the Night King and all the White Walkers (who have been built up as this overwhelming threat that will end the entire world) in one single battle? Nobody else really died either. It just felt like it was all too easy and not much was shocking.

I def need to watch it again but my initial impression is disappointment.

Holy fucking shit

I need a change of shorts after that.

What an episode. The Arya inside stealth scene was amazing. The musical score was fantastic, frantic and defining.

I need to watch it again before giving full impressions but wow

I have more questions than ever before. So no full explanation/bio of the Night King and his powers, for the rest of time we are just gonna be stuck with the little we know about the white walkers?

I knew the “blue eyes” comment for Arya meant the dead but I didn’t know it meant the NK himself. I didn’t see that coming.

Wow.

I'm ready to accept that the Night King and pretty much anything beyond the wall was just straight up mcguffin ..

Also I looked at the preview for the next episode. Where is this new army of the north coming from? I saw the unsullied being used and that is some hot garbage too. Feels like this show really George rr Martin really bad with his actual ending instead of this trash

I can honestly say I have no idea how the last three are gonna play out. The North is pretty much decimated, right?

No dothraki, no unsullied, but still two dragons. I think Tyrion is going to have to come up with extra clever shit to make up for his past mistakes somehow, but not sure what.

Also WTF was Bran doing with his eyes rolled back 90% of the time? Flying with crows because he's bored or actually contributing somehow?? For being the "history of humanity" he does approximately jack and shit.

Though I did enjoy how the battle got more and more desperate. Dragon being swarmed with walkers crushed my soul. It definitely arrived at the "all or nothing" crossroads fairly naturally despite all the other inconsistencies.

Also I'm not too bitter at Arya, as it somewhat justified Beric's continual resurrections and saving her for a greater purpose. But I still doubt Arya will be the one to do it in the books.

The ironic thing is, it wound up being super obvious that Arya was going to kill him.

This bothered me so much. It made no sense. This was a terrible episode. I won’t be surprised it this ends up being the worst rated episode on IMDB.

I have no problem with her doing it.

I lay in bed with my wife watching it. First I yelled at the TV because...

1. Why are you riding the Dorthraki at them. Jesus fucking wine drinking Christ, they have the knowledge that anyone who falls joins the Night King. Who the fuck thought this was gonna be a positive as they were riding towards the AotD? Show of hands?

2. Why didn't the dragons back them up or something. Only the Living were surprised at the Dorthraki quick butt fucking

I then yelled at the TV...

1. Why aren't you shooting arrows at the AotD as they stand lifeless in front of the fire trench?

2. Why Jon are you sitting on a Dragon on a wall doing nothing while the AotD stand lifeless in front of the trench. For a guy who couldn't stop saying "We don't have time" he sure picked a hell of a time to find some fucking time.

I yelled some more

1. How is the Night King a better Dragon rider than Dany?

2. How did the Living not see the corpses in the Crypt coming to life, WHEN YOU HAVE THE FUCKING KNOWLEDGE THAT THE NIGHT KING CAN RAISE THE FOOKING DEAD?

The answer to all these questions, and many more is.... Because the Plot requires it!

It was so frustrating to watch a group of people discuss the threat for over a season, gather information from places including Bran, and forget all of it between episodes 2 & 3.

(cynical) guess for the final 3 eps:
4: recover from battle, reintroduce Cersei, march south, initial diplomacy between Cersei <-> Dany (fails cause we need another batter), battle teaser
5: battle, few minor characters die, Cersei wins the 1st half, Yara shows up, Cersei loses the 2nd half, Dany wins battle
6: Cersei has a trial, some drama about who gets to be emperor of Westeros, everyone lives happily ever after

They subverted our expectations.

It's about family, that's why is so powerful.

It's like poetry, it's like busta without the rhymes.

All this moments will be lost, like tears in the snow storm that doesn't let you see shit.

Right now I'm SUPER INVESTED in the next episodes. Cersei, that Euron clown and the Golden Company. It can't get any better than that.

And Ghost killed offscreen, that was amazing too.

Do you think they can even find south. These dumb fucks will probably march north, passed the wall going "was this here the last time"?

100% on all of those. Everyone acts retarded.

Bran doesn't give them any intel on the situation or provide any clever twists through his own actions. All he does is sit there and glare, setting up Arya Ninja Leap.

I liked it. It hit on most of the things I like to see in action and battle stuff that gets me hyped up.

Only thing that took me out of it was most of the major characters just parking in a corner and not getting overrun.
