Playstation fans speak now or forever hold your peace.

Why play games when I can read stuff like the op for free.
Op your post brought me more joy than some triple A experiences.

Dude....you are a clown

On no, the games on my plastic box are available on other plastic boxes! Oh the horror! Won't someone think of the children!

First step to fix this OP: - don't make a brand and their plastic box part of your identity, it's super duper cringe
Second step: - enjoy video games for what they are, a nice lil' portion of escapism from this messed up reality we're living in
Step three: - profit of course

No need to make a thread about this because it's not going to happen overnight like Xbox or Sega. It's probably going to be a very long, slow and boring process where PS5 ultimately sell fewer units than the PS4, the PS6 will sell less than the PS5, and so on as PlayStation (and consoles as a platform) just fade over time. It's already happening I mean, everyone's basically already on Steam or mobile the only people who have PS5's are boomers. Sony can't make enough games fast enough to keep people interested in the platform. I mean their CEO basically said they're doing one big game per year and that's not gonna cut it for the short-attention span of an 18-year old.

People have to accept that the games industry is totally different than even a decade ago. Sony has barely shipped any first party games this gen and is seeing record profits just from collecting 30% of Fortnite and GTA MTX. If I told you 10 years ago Sony would ship a GOTY winning platformer and it would get easily outsold by REPO and Schedule I you would call me an idiot. Streamers playing your game is now way more important than a good review from IGN.

Helldivers getting a port to Xbox in its death throes is not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Companies like Tencent and Netease are exploiting the current meta to great success and Sony wisely doesn't wanna get left in the dust.

Nobody cares about console wars except boomers who buy a handful of single player games a year. The kid begging his MILF for the debit card to buy a Fortnite skin is a way more valuable customer and he doesn't give a fuck what platform he's playing it on.

Pay attention to the bootlickers in this thread. Who offer no counter no real conversation this is who are ok with this and a slow spiral of admission to sony own faults. Pay attention. Its the same as with super xbox fans. And it all starts as one thing and leads to another.

"PlayStation games on PC is "almost like printing money", says former exec Shuhei Yoshida"

Keep them coming!

Only fanboys will scream and cry.

In the top 20 list of best selling Switch games, 3 had Wii U versions. Do you need me to check on the top 20 best selling PS5 games how many of those had PS4 versions?
Yeah but the top selling game (by a lot) is a port and sold approx 5 times as many copies as the WiiU sold hardware units. And a lot of the Nintendo IP was on the WiiU.
Find me a single title that sold 5 times as many copies on PS5 as units of PS4 were sold. Literally impossible because people didnt skip the PS4, they did skip the WiiU even though it had games they wanted to play.
If everyone really wanted to play Mario Kart 8, or Zelda, or Smash Brothers, or Splatoon - why did they skip the WiiU?

At some point there will be a turning point and people joking will realize its been in front of them the whole time. Many of you sound like xbox fans of the past, denial - brushing everything off.
It's exactly what they sound like. As someone who grew up with the industry starting with atari, I've seen it all, but nothing like the self sabotaging of both Xbox and Playstation.

Abandoning their heritage and ip investing it all for always online GaaS and not cultivating existing ip or new ip that the players would like. All the censorship, woke games, catering to resetera/reddit/modern audience and GaaS.

Xbox had no games, and neither does Playstation. Meanwhile Nintendo is rocking new title after new title in both console and handheld market. Steam has the indy and strategy market in lock.

What happens when they wake up and lean in on existing ip, only to find that the fans left long ago and the torch wasn't passed due to them being greedy. We seen it with music and movies why not eventually games or console companies.

Playstation can thrive by default just because Xbox is gone. They have 3rd party support. But people who loved Playstation of old, the classic games, they will be gone if Sony doesn't wise up.

I admit I'm not a core PC gamer, so I guess I was out if the loop but I never heard of repo and schedule 1 until they became big and some streamers did videos on it.

But whatever build up or pre-hype I totally missed it all!

Thats the weird thing, these meme games just seem to launch directly into the gaming consciousness. There must be stuff going on behind the scenes - but these people I doubt even have the money to recruit influencers. There are probably a hundred games that barely get noticed for every 1 surprise hit but still its weird.

My current issue with Playstation this gen as whole is they stopped making games that I like.

Other than Team ASOBI they don't have any studio to make the games I want.
This. The whole pc thing I could cRe less about as I own all the systems, plus a gaming desktop and steam deck. It's the woke drek that bothers me. It's them not respecting their past ip. The last Sony game that I liked was astrobot and before that Days Gone. I miss gravity rush, Tokyo Jungle, warhawk, dark cloud, wild arms, ico, lbp, motorstorm, twisted metal, infamous, killzone 2, uncharted (with drake not some daughter bs)...

OP is unhinged, but he's not really wrong. The end of exclusiveness is the end of innovation and uniqueness. Nintendo seems to be for the time being the only company that has not traded their identity for lentil soup. They can be criticized for a lot of things, but not this. They changed the entire landscape of gaming with the release of the Switch, and personally I think they make the best games. In the other hand, if you dilute yourself too much, then you end up getting lost with everyone else, you're no longer unique. Why should anyone care? Look at Xbox desperately trying to convince everyone everything is an Xbox. Not gonna happen. Sony can still correct course, but the Helldiver's thing paints a grim picture. Next gen might only be Nintendo + PC for me.

I have to admit. The shit posting in this thread is top class 🤣

Congrats on the epic rant/meltdown. The pc...uh ... enthusiasm here was getting a little cringe with gamer79 alone. The green flight to pc is going to bring another 20 years of Dreamcast chip on the shoulder as Xbox is gradually looked at more through rose tinted glasses.

That's the zeitgeist, atm. Not that it doesn't mean anything but don't let it twist your mind.

this is just factually false

let me know when you want to discuss in good faith and not make up stuff

if you really believe Switch would have sold just as well if their games were on PS, xbox and PC, I have a bridge to sell you
On PC they are. Would Switch really sell more if they were not on PC?

And you think this is all a good thing? Sorry boomers are my parents. Yeah I play single player games exclusively but so do a ton of Gen Xers and we have money. They don't want it. Nintendo 3rd party and indies on steam do.

Its becoming abundantly clear that playstation leadership is compromised from top to bottom and those of you wanting japanese head conveniently forget how...
Dude, maybe it's because English is not my first language or something, but that sounds like you somehow got access to my browsers history.

I don't think it's good but it's the reality of the situation. Sony spending 300M on a single player game that sells 10M copies and people finish in a week is way less lucrative than controlling a successful GaaS. It's why they are trying so hard to produce one.

Look at Valve. They could've made a bunch of L4D, Portal, and Half Life games but they own DOTA and CS2 which print money all day every day.

Even if selling 10-20M copies of a 200-400M game is profitable it's never going to be as profitable long term as controlling a big time GaaS, and investors always want more.

depends how widespread Nintendo piracy is. I honestly think people who believe there are troves of people pirating Nintendo switch games are likely terminally online and completely detached from the average gamer, but if you have any evidence to suggest that the pirating of Switch games is significant in comparison to switch units sold, games sold, etc. for example, I'd love to see it

its only nerds on video game forums who think pirating Switch games is some norm. in reality, my suspicion is that we are talking about an incredibly tiny number of people

This is what happens when you tie your identity to a corporate brand. Just play the games you like on the hardware you like.

But to my point If this is what PlayStations new strategy consist of to constantly devalue and belittle their own core fanbase little by little, then this is what i have been preparing for over the last 3 years. Actions speak louder than words and i have enough backlog to stay locked in on ps5 on back for the foreseeable future with no problems until i finally make a move to pc or elsewhere.

There is already talk by outsiders who dont fully support playstation on 'why' they should even buy one now that playstation puts games on other platforms. Mind you PERCEPTION is everything in marketing. These short term gains playstation think they are garnering will do long term irreparable damage, and once you lose your core audience thats the beginning of the end. Those 30% cuts from third party and ps+ subs will dry up faster than pouring water on concrete on a hot summer day - and once people start rebuilding or exploring their options elsewhere… Elsewhere being platforms you have no control over or how consumer spending is encouraged then thats will be a wrap.

I'm not here to argue with anyone, ill just be voting with my wallet and habits going forward. Fool me once shame on you - fool me twice shame on me. And i promise i won't be fooled twice. If you're a playstation fan whom has bought in and invested directly.. Now is the time to speak up. if you enjoy playstation and you don't want to see them make mistakes others have in the past. Either speak/act now or remain complicit and watch the titanic sink over time because of their own mismanagement and decisions in the name of 'expanding' and profits. Fools gold at its finest.

I'll reiterate please critically think before you speak, if you sink money directly into playstation via their supposedly 'core model' and not off hand thru a PC or whereever else you should be thinking long and hard about the consequences of everything they are doing this gen because it will eventually effect you going forward and where u choose to play which will ultimately effect them. Their are lots of bad faith actors who want this because they know the damage it will do and weakening of the brand, And you dont have to look far across the pond to find examples *looks at xbox.*

I couldn't give a flying fuck who runs PlayStation where they're from, or anything. As long as they make good consoles and games. Touch grass.

I don't buy first party game of sony day one for quite awhile so i don't care, only buy 3rd party day one if they hype me enough otherwise just wait for sale, i have enough game in backlog to keep me going for awhile, even if PS6 release, if none of exclusive PS6 game look good i won't buy it day one anymore

Are you seriously asking why the Wii U flopped? The Wii U has been exhaustively discussed.

Why the commotion?
Some time ago Sony management literally spelt that PlayStation was planning to go multi-platform, we had already example of PlayStation publishing on Nintendo Switch and, of course, PC already got plenty of PlayStation first-party releases.

"In the past, we wanted to popularize console and the 1st party titles' main purpose was to make the console popular. It is true, but there is a synergy to it. So if you have strong first party content, not only with our console but also other platforms like computers, 1st party can be grown with multiplatform and that can help operating profit to improve. So that is another one we want to proactively work on.I personally think there are opportunities out there for improvement of margins, so I would like to go aggressive in improving our margin performance." - Hiroki Totoki

In the near future every game will be available on every meaningful platform, the only exception to the rule will remain Nintendo.
With the exception of Nintendo, true exclusive is a dying breed.

The concept of exclusive software is so important to you? Then buy Nintendo.
Totoki is a money guy and understand bussiness, thats why is there to make sure they making the right decisions, gaming is changing, making those aaa gaming is getting expensive, the console market isnt growing, why limit yourself to only 80-100 millions playstation 5 gamers, you can go to switch and xbox and pc and have more sales everywhere and improve margins, totoki said it but folks cant read no more, the commons folks and younger gamers doesnt care about exclusive, they want to play the game they want on their consoles of their choice with their friends

This is a very good group therapy thread to release our frustrations on Sony being on top but still being dumb. :messenger_beaming:

Now back to enjoying the fantastic game, chill and cozy, Death stranding 2.

With PC ports and now even some GAS ports to other consoles, they are totally destroying the value of their product.

Why should I buy a Playstation if everybody will end up on PC or even other platforms, and in PC there are going to be console form factors, keys shops at half the price (piratery, addmiteddly) and free online?

Most of Sony's games are already available on PC. You can literally count on one hand how many true exclusives they still have. And yet, their console keeps selling very well. That's the only metric they care about, and that's why they've ported almost all their games to PC — and why they're now porting Helldivers 2 to Xbox. The practical effect on PS5 sales will be virtually zero.

Anyway, the idea that any noise made here could have any effect on Sony is a mix of naivety and stupidity. They'll only change their approach if they start losing money — that's what drives any company.

Spider Man Lol GIF

NGL I stopped reading after that and laughed for a good minute straight.
Not sure what the rest of your post says, but I'm sure it's just as ridiculous; in any case thanks for the laughs and good luck with whatever you feel so deeply wounded by ✌

If it goes past that Australian dude that reviews games that my son shows me, that is too much effort for games.
Even watching YouTube reviews will be too much effort when PS moves to the same 2hr refund system that Steam has.
Buying new games blindly based on box art alone without fear of getting a dud has always been something reserved for rich men and their kids.
Steam extending that privilege to everyone has revolutionized game acquisition by removing all of the risk.
The reality is that it generally takes a few minutes of hands-on gameplay to know if you're going to like a game.
